Who would anyone downvote this? Excellent explanation of your methods. I appreciate explaining how the ASD system can be diagnosed from different points. That was not obvious for me. I'm just working on my second car that developed a no start issue. It was driving STRONG then sputtered out like ran out of gas. This was not the case, because some cranking revealed the smell of fuel coming from the exhaust. I figured I was getting pulse, but no spark and proceeded from there! No luck yet, and I pray the distributor is ok. The car HATES water, but i didn't get it wet. A foggy day, or a deep puddle will kill the engine for days until it dries out.
I used your video to test all of my wires, ensure the ASD is working, and has voltage, checked the 8v in 4v out for cam sensor pulse, and concluded the coil pack went bad. Looks like I'll be driving the other car for awhile. Man I swear if it wasn't a convertible, and in decent condition I'd get rid of it. Quick tip... pop the cap off the ASD and starter relays and manually actuate them to perform additional tests from the engine bay.
Nice explanation...!!! I'm having that problem right now with my sebring 1997 V6 convertible... Intermittent spark...!!! And no start... Fuel psi at 49... Do you think it could be involved bad rotor and cap distributor??? Tanks in advance....
Not sure if the 2000 is the same but I've worked on an 01 JXI & have replaced the distributor which worked after seeing the distributor get a signal but no spark. I did have to replace the CKP which is near there because it loses signal after the car gets hot. In the future, I will change them both if I have to replace the distributor again.
Have you attempted to start the car with the new sensor installed? If it runs ok, you may just leave it alone. If there is a problem, you may need a new sensor.
Thank you for this video. For those of us who do not have a scope, is a low end multimeter set to DC voltage capable of indicating if we have a trigger from the PCM on the blk / grey wire? If so, what Voltage should we be looking for on a Multimeter?
toyo toe You could use a meter, if you have no other option. However, keep in mind that a meter will give you the average voltage, so you will probably see around 6v cranking. You could set the meter to min max to see what the voltage was actually doing as well. A test light may also yield results, like testing an old style coil trigger from an ignition module. The difference being the rigger/module is built into the PCM on this application.
I am currently helping a friend with the same crank no start / no spark issue on a 99. 2 mobile mechanics walked away😂. He has the Haynes manual for a 98 and it doesnt have factory service level diagrams for the distributor or pcm output wires. I dont have a scope either but I have a multimeter. I will have to test for 12v manually. I work at a junkyard and like to grab the same connector pigtail with a lil wire lead left on for testing. Would you be willing to email the wiring diagram for the pcm output wires? (In the case that I dont find 12v on the coil input wire)
You can't test the coil without the fancy Chrysler tools, you can only infer it is bad by proving the voltages exist. You can test the camshaft position sensor with a multimeter, but it gets replaced anyway if you buy a new distributor.
Joe I have no signal on the ignition coil 1 driver wire you highlighted in the vid. I checked at the connector first and then at the pcm by backprobing it and still got no signal. I then went to the junkyard I work at and got a brand used pcm off of a known running sebring and still the same result. (I was convinced it was the pcm after that test result)I was using a power probe not a scope or multimeter to get my voltage readings - and no I didn't apply power or ground with the power probe. Could this be a security system lockout issue? I thought the security system cuts off injector pulse not spark. It cranks and gets fuel. I have the entire pcm diagram laid out and highlighted and I am stumped.
@@JoesAutoElectric I will be ordering the uscope you recommended soon. I got voltage readings on the other 5 pins, shouldn't I have seen voltage on the driver wire during cranking?
YOU HAVE A WAY OF EXPLAINING WHAT TO DO TO FIX MY PROBLEM IN A WAY THAT MADE SENSE TO ME...AGAIN...YOU ARE AN ANGEL FROM GOD..... THANK YOU! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! YOU ARE MY NEW GO TO GUY :)
i need your opinion on my chrysler 2000 conv sebring. I have to put a blowdryer under the hood for 10 minutes when its been cold outside in order for it to fire up. Otherwise the car just cranks but wont fire up. it runs fine once running. No code lights... an ignition module? distributor?
grandpoobahful it would be difficult at best to tell you how to fix it without performing testing. You need to know what you don't have when it won't start. Spark, pulse, fuel pressure? Then go from there.
Hello my chrysler sebring convertible just cranks but no start I was told to check distributor and camshaft sensor any ideas how to go about it get no spark to distributor and that leads to no spark to spark plugs help please....
go fishes can have a 98 Sebring 2.5 when I installed my crankshaft positioning sensor I pulled the tape off of the end of it and can I just sign it up or did I mess up by doing that thank you for your information
The tape on the end of the sensor is designed to produce the correct air gap for the sensor to the tone ring. It should be left on the sensor while installing it, unless the instructions say otherwise.
So who gets credit for fixing the vehicle you or the other shop. Can you reveal those shop secrets? By The way you have a really good videos it's something the average guy can relate to,not that the work is simple, you just show how it can be done in a simple way

Thank you brother! You can't please everyone and TH-cam is loaded with trolls. They prefer bullshitters over guys putting out real content.

Keep up the good work! You have a good channel started here, keep cranking out the videos and people WILL find you!
How much voltage should you have at the Coil 1 wire?

99 chrysler sebring convertible crank but no start recently changed crankshaft sensor n still no start what should i try next?

Well I give credit for not throwing parts at the car as many people would. I suppose we get the high five for the diag though :)
I got my 1998 Sebring JXI Convertible on the cheap for this exact reason...
