- It's a lot easier than you'd think to make fractals from scratch without any programming. Here I show a little-known trick using any image editor to make some well known fractals.

Quick question, how do I have my selection as transparent? Like my selection also has a white background in it.
In the 'Home' tab, click the 'Select' drop-down and choose 'Transparent Selection'
Also, to fix the bug where parts disappear when rotating, only make square selections (no rectangles).

Don't worry, memory usage is exponential. You're done when the computer crashes :)
But.. Like... When the computer crashes... What happens with his brain?
It's not programmed to check whether it's still in MS paint or not, while the input from the screen(which is BSOD) would be completely invalid, causing all kinds of problems inside of his brain...
Oh god. We need to find this man and stop him from making fractals in MS Paint!!
Don't worry, I have a failsafe that restarts the computer, opens MS Paint and starts drawing again! All is well, I will complete the drawing the fractal.
Oh.
Nonetheless, you will stop when your friends/relatives find you, or when you starve to death, or when electricity runs out, or something... I wonder what happens then.
I'll have plenty of time to finish drawing in the afterlife.

It's amazing how the pixels create a dithering effect, especially in the dragon curve thing, you can see how the single white space makes the space seem like it is 50% opacity.

My paint became so buggy when reached a certain point, it refused to align perfectly and i gave up trying to fix it and continued copy-pasting, but then i noticed the farther the less you can see a difference, i think that's why

Pro-tip:
You can use the arrow keys to move a selection by one pixel to align stuff easily while zoomed out.

I'm actually trying to code my own Lindenmayer/Turtle system at present but this is great . I've read a fair bit on fractals & I can't understand why I've never seen this before. Thanks man !
Specifications:
- Yes, maximize the size of your canvas, you can do that by a meter on the bottom right, and slowly decrease the size as the shape go larger
- He uses a pencil (not a brush, rather a tool next to fill)
- He uses rotate
- He uses the color black
- He uses transparent selection, go to the selection box and click "transparent selection"
- Yes, co-pasting is IMPORTANT, so it doesn't look small when saved and so it wont look weird
- He used copy, right next to paste (right click for efficiency)
note this guide doesn't include hotkeys

GIMP's fractal tool is really good, and it's free to use, i used that a lot when i was younger, when i was trying to make unique backgrounds/images for my projects.

MS Paint won't exist that long. It's already being discouraged by Microsoft as it gets more and more hidden with new Windows 10 updates. They're going to discontinue it soon and drop it out entirely.

I'm stuck on the rotating part, mspaint just kept messing up the rotation: sometimes it deletes some of the rotated image, and sometimes it crops the thing wrongly.
Yeah that happened to me too so I switched to the serpinski triangle.
If it happens, cut 'N paste
There’s actually a way to prevent that. In the video, his selections when he was rotating were essentially squares. If your selection is a square, it will appear perfect every time when rotating. Something I had picked up when I messed around with pixel art in mspaint.
just dont unselect the cut image, then cut and paste. The cut parts reappear

The creator of the background music actually didn't know of this video until about 5-7 months ago, and he was really confused before because everyone was referencing this video in the comments
You can rotate by non 90 deg angles in Ms paint it's just a bit tedious. If you use the resize menu you can enter in any scale and sheer transform. Effectively, any rotation matrix you want can be done with the right choice of vertical and horizontal sheer.
I don't even know what's the use of a fractal but it's just so fun to make

For some reason my ms paint cuts a portion of my selection when i rotate it and i have to disable transparent and reselect it with transparent enabled
I tried this and it was very fun, i only managed to make the square fractal and Sirpenski's triangle ( idk if i spelt the name right i apologise in advance ) because my computer's Microsoft Paint includes the background colour as well as the thing your actually trying to paste so things that were squarer worked better as it was easier. I got alot of hand cramps as it was very difficult to use the mouse so i ended up using the keyboard instead they were really cool and fun it did take me way longer than 5 minutes though which was without a doubt because of my noobie skills. In conclusion it was a fun activity and im planing to do it again, thank you for teaching me! 💗
