Now, what everyone wants to know. What does a recovery like this cost? Not the total cost of the accident, but roughly what Midwest billed the hauler for the day's work. I know there's additional fees for storage and later transport and so forth, but just for today with multiple units and dozens of man-hours, including the clean-up.

Apologies, but I don't discuss pricing on here. Prices vary too much from region to region and even from one company in the same area to another. I can tell you, that so far, I haven't been paid for this job. Progressive Commercial Insurance is refusing to pay the invoice for our services!!! And I can guarantee you that my invoice is "pocket change" compared to what Progressive will be paying out to the railroad. Sorry, you didn't need to know all that. It's just that I've spent the last week TRYING to work with an agent and her supervisor who simply refuse to listen to me and I'm very frustrated. I've never had an issue with Progressive until now. I even use Progressive for my own personal vehicles. Anyway.... Thanks for watching and God bless.

@@RonPratt no, no! sorry for making that kind of silly comment of mine Ron. I just thought that elsewhere in the world someone always must pay for things that happen... And nothing more I meant I swear. I don't know anything about your system of that kind, nothing believe me! I'm from another world, another side of planet and we (I guess) have something our own, something I have no idea how it's working at all!... All I probably wanted to say is how I appreciate your service, your attitude, your personality, and your country as well. I'm from 70s Ron, I'm the child of Perestroika. And I'll never forget this... Plus beautiful English language, plus American tucks, people of America. This is true love till the end of my life Ron... So, I'm sorry for my silly comment, sorry for drawing your attention to it, and, still, thank you for your reply, thank you for your attention... And heck I guess I love Missouri and its people for rest of my life! sir! 😀 Thank you!

@@RonPratt Possibly because Progressive holds the trucking company to be negligent in driving their trailer across the heavily domed/crowned road, on which it probably grounded, rather than "played chicken" and lost. Perhaps you need to persue the haulier directly.

As a train driver (not in the USA), please, please, always be careful near crossings. Not only are you risking your own life, but we also often suffer especially psychological trauma and stress after such an accident, especially if someone dies. Trust me, it's not worth risking your life, I have seen some really bad wrecks before with multiple fatalities, so just stop if the gates are down and if there are no gates look left and right multiple times to make sure no train is approaching! Especially long cargo trains have an incredibly long braking distance.

I second what you’ve said because I’ve been a locomotive engineer (driver) for 25 years. I’ve been through my share of this type of situation. On my line there is a gravel pit. The truck drivers into the pit used to always try to make a run for the crossing if they heard us coming. That was until a friend and colleague hit one of the trucks. I’ve heard that the driver is a vegetable now.

    • @kennethwilliams-dl9gi

that is said every time theres an accident and yet accidents keep happening. drivers are too inattentive to their surroundings and oblivious to the obvious. even gates do not prevent stupidity and ignorance.

Also, don't forget to listen. Sometimes the horn can be heard with no train in sight as the rails curve. And on a good day, that horn can be heard at a distance. Lived close to some tracks and you could hear the horn from over 1/2 mile away.

I wish that crossing safety was part of any driver training as that would help. Great job Ron & crew! And on a sad note, that was a very expensive lesson for the driver. In addition to what others have said PLEASE, PLEASE remember this. The TRAIN ALWAYS WINS, the train CREW ALWAYS LOSES, either due to injury/death or the mental trauma of being unable to avoid a potentially fatal crash. Thankfully in THIS situation the semi "almost" made it, so the train only hit as a glancing blow instead of a T-Bone. The latter very easily could have caused serious injury or death to the train crew.

    Hi Ron,
I wish you could orchestrate the recovery more when you have the crew available to follow your direction.
Let Ethan operate the rotator and gain all the experience he can. You will be proud of your crew with a successful recovery.
Good to see Talon there working together to get the job done. Nice work guys

There is this tow company out of Oregon that bought a set of tandems off of a trailer. . He said he is going to put a steel plate with three reinforced holes to have the ability to have four corner posts. He said he will use it to tow a trailer by the fifth wheel or put it at the back of a trailer that has lost all or most of it's wheels.

Somehow I'm curious who's gonna pay for this incident. My very speculative guess that some unlucky farmer gonna lose some coins...
Gorgeous eagle's fly-by Ron 👍 Love such beautiful moments in videos: they tell us we're not the only living beings here on this planet, and the world behind our everyday errands is huge (and can actually live without us, and that's a bit sad to realize sometimes...). Thank you for sharing this sir!

The angle irons have been in use for many years and are very useful to have. Most of the time it's normally aluminium and way back some was in steel, i see those are the new ones.

Harvesting has been going on in my area of Nebraska for a while. And there’s many unprotected crossings into the fields. And I’m sure many are just temporary drivers so hopefully they pay attention. I just gave up my CDL after 20 years, I really don’t want to go back over the road but I checked for certain that I’ll be able to do harvest if the need arise.

Brother (& in-law) of two engineers, both experienced incidences like this, and it was heart-wrenching to observe. I hate to think what it would be like to actually go through it. First off, crews were replaced before the train was allowed to move. Mandatory off time, and a psychiatric evaluation before going back to work. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Investigation. Clouds of litigation threaten even though everything was done correctly on the train crews part. All that on top of knowing someone's life was lost or permanently altered under YOUR wheels. Don't risk it, it isn't worth it. Not for anyone.
