    There is currently an arms embargo on the homestead (I may or may not have bought several knives and a couple of guns, then forgot to get valentines dinner reservations). But this knife is definitely on my list when the embargo is lifted.

    There are going to be haters because of it’s name and the fact that it has next to no liner. If we put in an EDC position though it will excel and it is plenty strong. About the price, I’ll be blunt: Benchmade will always be overpriced, you pay for a name and good warranty/customer service. Those are my thought on this knife.

    A lot of criticism on this knife. Benchmade wouldn’t design and release a knife if it wasn’t solid. I’ve carried mine everyday, literally, for 2 months and it’s been so solid. It’s a fantastic backcountry blade when you don’t want to carry a fixed blade. Great review, Scout!

      Backcountry Exposure good to hear. I’m expecting mine today and from watching another video on it one reviewer said his felt like his was going to fall out due to the shortness of the pocket clip but he was the only one saying that. I thought this knife would be a great edc knife and I’m fairly active in my day to day activities and especially at work I didn’t want to risk losing it. I won’t even carry my para 2 because of the fear of losing it at work.

    Also, as far as comparisons go, I don't understand how the Kabar Dozier wouldn't make it in there as well. It has the same type of "all plastic" construction, extreme light weight, and is even offered in blue just like the bugout. How could anyone NOT compare the blue Dozier to the bugout. I'm so shocked that was left out. Lol

    Like the review went out and got one. Really great for EDC, agree not the survival knife that you like if left alone on the planet, but will do most of the tasks you need a knife for. One thing it could be all you had in an emergency and it is a high-quality dependable knife. Not a 12" Bowie though LOL.

    i I didn't want to want this knife. I work on a farm, and I would like to be carrying a moderately tough knife... but I can't not want it. I guess I'll just have to get the Griptilian too. By the way, the nicks may be because the edge is stressed and overheated from the factory grinding. The steels tend to not be as good until you sharpen them a couple times.

    I like the idea of this knife but I have my reservations. Most of the examples I’ve handled locally, probably 2 dozen, have had gummy actions. Real stiff and sticky. I don’t think I’d break the handles or frame in normal use but the flew would bug me.
    If they make a shorter knife, mini grip or mini barrage sized and the action was a little bit smoother from the factory I’d be all over it for an edc knife. I can fix the action but the flex would bug me.

    • @johnhill1646
      @johnhill1646 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      koolaidnd Every Bugout that I have handled has been a little stiff as well. When I purchased mine I just loosened the pivot screw just a hair and it’s got a perfect action now.

    Mostly good reviews for the Bugout. I think my Kershaw skyline compares quite well. I like the Damascus blade on mine and it was much cheaper. I will say, I have a 940 that is my edc, but the S30V steel is not my friend. I find it dulls easy and despite my taking tips from ApostleP, it won't hold the edge. I believe they should have called it the "Backpacker" and made a much more robust knife to name the "Bugout".

    LBS- I find it weird that none of the youtubers that have reviewed this knife have seemingly noticed or mentioned the fact that this knife comes with a pocket clip that utilizes two (2) screws, yet the knife handle comes with three (3) pilot holes on either side of the handle. Why is this?

    • @doubleupwake
      @doubleupwake 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My guess is because they wanted to keep the same hole pattern as the other majority of their knives. Then if you want to swap the bugout clip for a "standard" Benchmade clip you can

    They missed an opportunity with this one man. The name makes no sense but if you called it the "bugout LT" and then had a "bugout xl" with aluminum handle scales, bigger blade, sharpened 90° spine I think that would make wayyyy more sense as a bug out pocket knife but this right here is for the office Spartans whom tackle the mail room clamshell packages 😂😂😂

    • @ntstick06
      @ntstick06 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheCobradragon My advise is don't get too caught up on degrees. Get a sharpie color the edge and just follow the factory grind. I think too many people on TH-cam get caught up on 30° vs 25° vs 27°. Unless you have something like a wicked edge and hours to change the factory angle I wouldn't worry to much.

    Nice carving :) But, if the blade is so thin ...that makes the blde a "slicer"...meant for "light use". Not carving wood. :) Our takeaway? Even S30V can chip under "hard use" if the blade is thin enough...perhaps any "slicer" blade. But mostly it did hold together.
    Yur wood carving test...does beg the question "wht can we actually use pocket knvies for?". So that we can use the knife and only have the cutting edge dull. Using our common sense.
    e.g. prying staples? probably not a good idea with any pocket knife blade tip. :)
    e.g. metal to metal conact --blade to ______metal object...bad diea.
    "Hard use"---fixed blade. "surival" or "comat" oriented. Knives that aren't "slicers".

      My Opinel No8,cuts-slices and feels x10 better than the Griptilian. It's more beautiful too. Why spend so much money on a knife,that when it dulls will be a pain to resharpen? If I lose it or get stolen I cry etc. My favorite handle materials,are paper or canvas micarta and wood.It's just a personal preference. PS If someone says,the Griptilian will last more,then you can buy 10 Opinels and still have money left,these will last even more than the Griptilian.
