    This is a fascinating video! Thank you for for the work that it took toward putting this together. Although I have an 01A, your video has helped me to understand the workings of this similar transmission.

    Great explanation of how the transmission works. But what fluids should it be filled with? Does the center differential torsen have any special oil, or does it share oil with the front differential and the gearbox? Thank you.

    • @pnswg01
      @pnswg01  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use Fuchs gear oil or the one from the dealer which is probably made by Fuchs.
      There is only one type of oil in this transmission. The automatic version made by ZF use auto trans fluid for the front section and gear oil for the rear (torsen diff).

      @@pnswg01 There are disagreements about what viscosity to use, 75w90 or 75w80? gl4 or gl5?

    • @pnswg01

      @@raulgambramartinez65 I am not a transmission repair person so I can only speak about what I use. I tried Redline after rebuild and that was the worst. I changed that real quick because shifting was not good especially from 1st to 2nd and when it's cold. I replaced it with Fuchs 75w90 and that was a night and day difference. The next time I changed it I went with the one from the dealer. (I didn't see any difference between the dealer oil and the Fuchs)
      As for GL4 or GL5, I don't remember.

    Thank you for this video! This has been a great bit of help. While not exact, there is a lot of overlap here with the 01E CBD found in the C4 S6 (URS6). Curious if there is any interchangeability between the synchos for this one and mine.

      Sorry, I don't know. I only have access to the C5 A6 and B5 A4. There is a website that tell the difference between various build but I did not save it. Try Google, you may find it. Thanks for watching.

    Patrick, hoping you can help. I just acquired a used TDI 01E. I have not yet installed into my 2004 2.7 A6. This used trans shifter shaft works well by hand shifting on the bench. I slightly rotate the input shaft for alignment and the gears fall into place. Shifting has a good feel, however, the input shaft will not rotate when engaged into any gear. Also, while in neutral, or any gear, the axel flanges will only rotate in opposite rotation.
    I'm unable to rotate the axel flanges together in the same direction. Is it hard to rotate the input shaft because of the Torsen differential? And is it also due to the Torsen that I can't rotate the two axels in the same direction? Or, do you feel that the trans is damaged?
    Any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time. Dennis

    • @pnswg01
      @pnswg01  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you turn any axle flange forward, the opposite side turns backwards. This is normal. That is the way differentials work. You would have to turn both sides in the same direction at the same time. Try applying tension to both drive flange so one cannot turn without the other and power should transfer to the output shaft at the torsen differential.

    I know this vid is over three years old, but, are you/will you cover the tiptronic? I know that one is very complex.

    • @pnswg01
      @pnswg01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I have 3 tiptronic (ZF 5HP19) only if one of them break and I decide to fix it myself.
      There was a set of video's on TH-cam with a British guy explaining the sections and assembly procesures.
      I believe Garry Ferrario did some repair on these but he never explain anything, just teardowns.
