Awesome video. A lot of people simply do not know this. I just went though This. I broke my magnetic drive gear while transferring parts. Audi doesn’t make them any longer. Practically gold
Would one of these transmissions bolt up to a 1.8t or does the bell housing need to be modified? I have a 2001 B5 A4 1.8t Quattro and the stock 01A is beginning to fall apart. I found a used FYF transmission for sale and I’m struggling to find information on it online
I know a few people running them behind 1.8t they installed in B4s. So I would say the answer it yes. Maybe do search on Facebook Pre-95 Audi Quattro Page. I think you will find something.
Quick follow-up: am I able to bolt B5 S4 transmission mount brackets to both sides of the FYF case or will custom fabrication be required? Thank you for the quick reply by the way
@@seanf7948 I really don't know for certain. I would try a B5 Facebook page, or there is a Forum called The Project Pad. You could try there and ask. I just tried the search on the Pre95 facebook page and it sucked.
I have a 2 Wheel Dr manual 01E that will not go into reverse. I disconnected all the linkage and it still won’t go into reverse so I ruled that out. Is there some sort of reverse lockout solenoid on here that could’ve gone bad? I’ve been trying to figure this out for months.
Did you upgrade your Audi Coupe 5 speed-transmission with this 01E GBE? If yes, how did you shorten driveshaft? I'm eyeing on an FYF and planning swapping it into my 1991 S2 3B which has the older 01A (ARV) 5-speed gearbox. Luckily both of them have the same 4.11 ration, but I'm more concerned about the driveshaft shortening and whether the rear diff and axles are able to hold hard launches.
You can use the propshaft from and Audi 4000 quattro. It is the right length, for when you install an 01E. You need the sensors as noted in the video. As for launches, I don't know, because I don't launch.
Now this is just from memory. The states got the 01E on the UrS4/6 in the early 90s, but those were only 5 speed. The states got the 6 speed in the late 90s early 2000s on the S6 and S4s, ending with the B6 A4 V6s. In Europe, they got 6 speeds on a number of cars. S2, RS2s, V8s, S8s, etc. I don't know if the 1994 80 Competition has the 01E 6 speed or not. A Euro only car. They do bolt up to a 4 banger as I know several people who have used them behind 1.8T put into older Audi 90Qs.
@oldguyramblings thanks very much l really appreciate your reply and knowledge. I am actually looking to put a front wheel drive box behind a ls1 350 and trying to narrow down what's best and easiest and also able to handle 4 to500 horses and moreover the price. By your description it seems if l buy any front wheel drive manual audi l'll get that box, .....is that true Thanks

When Audi does not have the part, check the VW parts bin for the same number.

No reverse solenoid, on a manual. Either shifter forks or adjustment in the linkage.
does anyone know can you reuse the the o-ring where the axle goes through the side cover?
On an 01E? The part number is 016409399B. Search for best price.

@@joseph317 There are some 01E front drive boxes, I just don't know what cars they came on.
