    Kersarge Pass is one of only two passes across the Sierra crest into Kings Canyon with regularly maintained trails. The other one is Bishop Pass. Lamarck Col, Taboose Pass, Baxter Pass, and Sawmill Pass also cross the crest into Kings Canyon, but none of those trails is regularly maintained. Those four are also much more difficult than Bishop and Kersarge, requiring much more elevation gain from the east side. Echo Col, above Sabrina Lake, is another option, but it may be class III in places and it is not recommended for ordinary backpackers without climbing skills.

      Thank you so much! I have been evaluating East/West routes into Sequoia and Yosemite this is very helpful

      @@BookwormSkates If you are heading for Evolution Basin and Evolution Valley in northern Kings Canyon, an alternative to Bishop Pass (which requires that you then climb over Muir pass), is to take Piute Pass over the crest just north of the north boundary of Kings Canyon, then hike through Humphrey's Basin, down Piute Creek, and then then up the JMT/PCT along the South Fork San Joaquin River, then up Evolution Creek to Evolution Basin. Piute Pass is an EXTREMELY easy pass over the Sierra Crest, arguably the easiest non-road pass across the crest in the Sierra, although Duck Pass is also very easy. If you have the time and energy, a great shuttle trip is to go from North Lake over Piute pass, then take the route I mentioned above up to Evolution Basin, then over Muir Pass, down the Middle Fork Kings and then up over Bishop Pass and out at South Lake. Or the other way around. But this, of course, would require a vehicle shuttle between North and South lakes.

    pretty amazing how you've grown as a film maker since these days. This one was pretty good but in the beginning you were the king of zooming in and out. Zip zip zip. Your latest videos are really good. Thanks for sharing. we're days away from permit season YEAH!!

    Well that was thrilling for me, having last been through there in '71, Onion Valley to South Lake.

    Absolutely beautiful ... those reflections that you captured at Matlock Lakes are simply awesome. Top of the pass looked like Grand Central Station ... or what you'd find at the top of Mt. Marcy here in the Adirondacks. Crazy. You are so very fortunate to have the opportunities to take these wonderful adventures in the Sierras!! Thanks for sharing this one ... (and where was your wife?) :)

    There is just something about being above the treeline in the High Sierra. Great big views of great big mountains and lakes, thanks for the memories.
    Oh, have you hiked the whole JMT Sheety?
    Edit; Was that a wild burro? I don't remember there ever being wild burros loose up there.

      Mountain Fisher A dream of mine is to hike the JMT one day...picking my spots😉. The group camping near me brought the burro up - it was so quiet I didn’t realize it was there until after I pitched!

    I have 1 night to backpack and have watched pretty much all of videos but still undecided between this hike or Bishop Pass. Which one would you recommend, Kearsarge or Bishop pass?

    Beautiful area and it’s on my list. Did you do anything to enhance the audio from the iPhone? If so what? Thanks

    • @Sheety33
      @Sheety33  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      waterfallmadman I use Filmic Pro and record audio from the bottom mic....bump up the audio to about 5 in FCPx and that’s it!

    awesome video! beautiful hike! on the shots that you have of you hiking, is the movement of the field of view done while editing? how do you do it? what program do you use? thanks, well done!

    • @Sheety33
      @Sheety33  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nick - I use FCPx and the Ken burns effect...I believe this is also available through IMovie and other editing software. I use Filmic Pro to record video...hope this answers your questions!
