As someone who loves taking pictures of everything, using an older digital camera vs a newer DSLR like you said just feels better. I love my D3500 but nothing beats the feel of an older digital camera, the simplicity makes the shooting experience so much more enjoyable!

These little Canons can surely surprise you, if you use as low ISO as possible. And in dimmer lightning instead of rising ISO, stabilize camera with old school tricks.

    Interesting video.
I picked up a Canon powershot A650 IS from a local charity shop for £19.99.
It's very similar but has the articulated LCD screen and image stabilisation, it's also 12mp and has a larger 1/1.7" sensor, for the era this was a large sensor for a compact point and shoot.
It takes stunning photos and like you said the macro capability on these is top notch, mine focuses down to 1cm.
You forgot to mention using rechargeable batteries reduces your running costs and is kinder to the environment.
I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with a retro photograoher?

For a greener planet please use rechargeable batteries, it is an easy and rewarding change (saves a lot of money and pollution) and it feels good. Good quality AA and AAA batteries have almost the capacity of an alkaline and they recharge overnight with a basic charger. Buy twice as much as you need at a time and charge the batteries when not in use.

I still use my Canon PowerShot A-620 that I bought maybe 17-18 years ago now. It takes very good photos, has pretty decent zoom from 35 to 140mm plus the color swap mode makes it real handy for getting an idea from a paint chip sample of what your walls will look like with various colors before you actually buy the paint. That's something I've used it for with pretty good results as long as the color sample is acquired using the same lighting as what's in the room your checking. Pretty advanced feature for the time I think.

And all these new big WIFI cameras with all the bells & whistles & complicated to even use, can't even compare to my little Canon Powershots in how simple to operate besides great photo taking.... I have an A720 IS. Love the camera and use it for street when I go into rough areas. Great Canon colors although I typically edit the shots into B&W. The IS is good for about 1 stop. But that's better than nothing. If your Canon digicam doesn't have an IS after its name, its not image stabilized. The tunnel viewfinders on these digicams suck, and are inaccurate, but I still use them over the LCD screens.

Hi ! Great video ! I once had a powershot, but never shot in “P” mode, I had a SX 100 and I bought it, among other things, because of full manual control. Now I decided to return to shooting on powershots, but I noticed that cameras without a full manual mode are often cheaper and less worn out. My question is this: is it possible to achieve everything I need from the “P” mode only with the exposure compensation? Let's say I really liked shooting at long shutter speeds and in full manual mode it's easy, but wouldn't "P" limit the maximum shutter speed to one second or so ? Or is there some special “night mode” that unlocks long shutter speeds, but will this mode give me control over ISO or exposure compensation?
And one more question, how does the “p” mode work with the aperture? The fact is that diffraction is breathing in the back of these cameras and, by and large, there is no point in closing the aperture until there is a not to much light. f/4 for 1/2.5 cameras is already something like f/22 for Full Frame. Does this "P" mode understand this or it can close the aperture even when there is a still a possibility to reduce shutter speed ??
    Thank you.

The Achilles' heel of these cameras is a lack of sealing, allowing dust to get inside the lens. No big deal until you shoot a pic towards the sun, then its artifact city. Also lack of dynamic range. Love my Canon G10 but it has its' shortcomings.

Hi! This might be an issue with the battery connection. What might be happening is that the metal post on the bottom of the battery tray has become less "Springy" and doesn't give a good connection to the battery. Often times you are able to gently pry the post and bring it back up so the connection is better. I made a video on this on youtube(the end part is about the posts):

If you still get the battery warning even with fresh batteries, it's likely the button cell is dead (not unexpected after 15+ years).
