Their might a reason why the 03 series couldn’t collab with the 2012 series, and why the 03 series couldn’t get the 87 series VAs. The reason being is that the 87 VAS are union based, while the 03 isn’t. The 2012 series is also union based so this why they couldn’t have a collab with the 03 VAs since they aren’t non union.
There's a new TMNT: Saturday Morning Adventures #12 comic book crossover coming out soon. It has turtles from the 80th, 2003, 2012, 2018, maybe they'll do an anniversary cartoon as well.
Like the upcoming issues of the Saturday Morning Adventures comic? Cause 2003 Donnie appears in it (along with Mirage Leo, 2012 Mikey, & Rise Raph, plus Jennika from the IDW Comics).
@@Elvusmiw I suspect it was mostly due to the original cast not being in Turtles Forever. Which seems a bit unfair to the creatives, since it wasn't their decision but just the circumstance of 4Kids and the WGA being in separate universes, so to speak, but in a way, it makes sense not to give those actors lines referencing a project they weren't included in. The 2012 show did reference the 2003 show in other instances, though. Bishop and Hun, to name two 4Kids original characters who were reimagined for the Nickelodeon series.
6:44 They also kinda did this in the 2012 crossover, but at least it made a little more sense. They were worse at fighting because they weren't able to lean on toonforce to back them up.
Definitely a fantastic finale for the 2003 series even if the story is somewhat flawed. My favorite thing about it was that they still let 87 Raphael break the 4th wall several times! I love the look on Hun’s face when he tries to figure out who 87 Raphael is talking to!
I remember the hype for this was pretty insane back in 2009. Like, we're all kind of checked out of multiverse stuff these days, but back then you just didn't really see it. As a finale to the 2003 show I think it's great. It gives all the characters a nice send-off and largely makes up for the lackluster last two seasons of the show. The depiction of the Mirage Turtles is also great, and I love their constant Frank Miller-style narration still being there. It's with the 87 Turtles that things get kind of wonky though. I get they were trying to have a '03 Turtles think the 87 ones are super lame, and then they got to the Mirage universe and the Mirage Turtles think the 03 ones are lame, so they learn to appreciate each other' kind of thing, but, they really do go too far some places. Like portraying the 87 Turtles as cowards is totally out of character and really lame. Some have attributed this to malice, but I think it's just a result of somewhat sloppy writing. Because the entire arc of the story is that the 03 and 87 Turtles learn to like eachother, so I do not think the intent ever was to make them look lame, it just kind of comes off that way.
Yeah, the scenes from the director’s cut literally have the 2003 Splinter admonish his sons for being jerks to their 87 selves. It’s another reason that version of the movie is better.

Honestly, I wish they would take advantage of the 1987 series setting more. If characters from another version of the Turtles enter the 87 universe, the rules of that world should force them to become more susceptible to cartoon logic and slapstick antics. Imagine if 87 Leonardo used the rapid strike technique against 2003 or 2012 Leonardo's sword, and it causes their weapon to shatter into pieces like in the 87 cartoon? They'd be speechless!
A problem I've had with crossovers for years now, is that they will have a bias towards one side, and the other gets shafted. One thing to add in 87' Turtles favor is how all movies take more elements from that show, even 2003 series one took a couple of elements from the 87 show like the mask colors and Usagi's friend Ginoski dressing like Rocksteady.

I'll forever love the Turtles Forever for finally Turtle Prime voices, an awesome, an animated artstyle! You have no idea how badly I want THE Turtles to have their own show or even movie series.
The Flashes of Two Worlds storyline did essentially function as the meeting of two generations of the same brand. Sure, Jay Garrick and Barry Allen only shared super hero identities and weren't literally the same guy, but they still came from what where then seen as mutually separate worlds (as the shared multiverse weren't a thing yet) that temporarily united in a story that essentially represented "Your dad's Flash meets your Flash!".

Funny playing with expectations. Oh crap they have to deal with another shredder oh wait never mind. Always made me laugh. Turtles Forever was pretty cool, as were the 2 1987-2012 crossovers. Funny enough that both the 2003 animated series & 2012 CGI series end with those turtles crossing over with the 1987 turtles & even the Foot Clan from that series. You know what I'd like to see? Spider-Man actually did in the 90s near the end of the animated series. But, yeah, I kind of wish they did this with the other TMNT shows since as well.
While I may not love this movie, I love the 2012 crossovers. Getting the original voice actors and music (and being respectful) was just so fun and enjoyable. And 2012 did give Mirage a cameo.
I really wish the Prime/84’ turtles were more utilized in common media now. They’re by far the coolest iteration of the turtles and stylistically are more rugged and mature. I’m really glad they were included in this movie
There's also that weird retcon that the 1987 Krang is the cousin of Kraang Sub-Prime and that he was actually a member of the 2012 Utrom/Kraang race who got banished to the 1987 Earth for....trying to blow up other dimensions instead of invading them, I guess. Instead of him being like a brain lizard thing that lost his body or whatever that original plotline was in the Red Sky season. Half of this is memory from my quarantine binge of 2012 and the other half is from James Rolfe's 1987 TMNT retrospective.
I remember hearing the Phelous review on this same episode and I always thought "aren't you being a little too pedantic?". I'm glad that your love for the series doesn't write out the reality or behind the scenes work, in favor of insisting that "the 80s turtles WERE better".
You missed the point of it. That’s what makes Turtles Forever a bad crossover made only to shit on the 89 Turtles and praise how much better the 03 Turtles was. It was made out of spite. The 89 turtles was silly, no doubt but never to the point of being too retarded to get the job done. They were still good at being heroes, A good crossover lifts up both parties and can knock on flaws both parties had. TF constantly made fun of “cowabunga” but never once mock the catchphrase of then 03 series “what the shell.” There was a bias there. No Way Home showcased the strengths of all three Spider-Man and the weaknesses of them all, even Tom despite it being his movie.
Pretty good video GM, it was great to be reminded of this tmnt crossover film. I remember watching it when I was around 10 and one of my favourite jokes was 1987 Raph breaking the tension of a fight to break the fourth wall.
I found it weird when two of the '87 Turtles almost get hurt and they go off crying, CRYING to '03 Leonardo who was holding them saying "there, there." Also, wasn't this movie James Avery (Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince) last movie before his untimely passing?
Personally, I choose to believe in Phelan Porteous' theory that the 1987 turtles in this movie are not the actual turtles from the 1987 series, but rather a much dumber and sillier version of them from a dimension separate from the real 87 dimension.
I like Phelous as well, but it was one of his weakest reviews especially in the 87's next crossover in 2017 for the finale to 2012, he found them extra obnoxious that the 87 are overplayed as goofballs.
This is my gold standard of "multiverse crossover", it's fun, creative, and a great tribute to all things TMNT. Plus the 2012 cross-over giving the original voice cast a chance to come back is super awesome :)
Since the 80’s turtles are the ones that keep crossing over, it would be great if the next time they do, the 80’s Donatello makes a comment to the new Leo or someone like ‘Wait, this is the first time this has happened to you? This is like the 7th time for us, we assumed all of you guys met up more often.’
Feels like I have a hidden diamond with me owning the DVD of this movie and a lot of the early seasons of TMNT 03. With how streaming services like to trade rights around around and how any crossover type thing tends to get delisted or some other such copywrite malarkey I feel like it’s only going to get harder to find a legitimate copy of these things. At the very least it’s happened with other properties. Preservation of media shouldn’t be this hard in this day and age but the corporate ghouls LOVE to ruin everything for the rest of us.
YEAH! Turtles Forever...well, forever! Though if you want to see them disrespect the 80s turtles, watch the 2012 crossover, they do MAD disrespect (which is ironic given how much respect was paid to the legacy otherwise), taking literally every pot shot they can towards almost every aspect. This meanwhile took a few pot shots, but it's to a more reasonable degree, at least in comparison. We've got this on VHS recorded a few times over, since my folks and I loved watching this so much. I had no idea of an extended version though. I'd love a big 4 cartoon crossover between 80s, 2003, 2012, and Rise, that would be pretty sick. Either way, it nice seeing a guy I watch actually review this. That Emilio fellow is the GOAT.
Took more pot shots, but I would argue that was more ribbing. 03 did less, but they felt far more spiteful, in my opinion. I'm not even saying either special is great, but if we're talking who seemed meaner, I'd go with cowering in a corner at one point 03.
Seeing that the 2012 crossover retconned 87 Krang into being a member of the Kraang (and thus an Utrom) I just headcanon that both crossovers are versions of the 87 turtles and not the 87 turtles.
I’d be interested to see the Unicron Trilogy crossover with say Transformers Prime myself. Or just bring back that universe a bit… I miss it and wanna see my favorite universe back a bit.
A crossover of the OG Turtles, the Image Turtles, the 87 Turtles, the Archie Turtles, the Fleetway Turtles, OG live action Turtles, Welsh Publishing Turtles, the TMHT Comic strip Turtles, the TMNT Comic strip Turtles, Ladies' Home Journal Turtles, Titan UK Turtles, the 2003 Turtles, Dreamwave Turtles, Amazing Adventures Turtles, 2012 Turtles, Rise of Turtles, Bay Turtles, Anime Turtles, Panini Comics Turtles, the comic Batman/TMNT Turtles, the movie Batman/TMNT Turtles, New Earth Prime Turtles, Next Mutation Turtles, manga Turtles, Power Rangers/TMNT Turtles, TMNT vs. Street Fighter Turtles, TMNT x Stranger Things Turtles, the storybook Turtles, IDW Turtles, Palladium Books Turtles, the Blue Door Turtles and their future/superhero counterparts in each universe would be a kewl thing.
I think you forgot to mention that Bebop and Rocksteady ended up killing Umtrom(not sure if I spelt that right) Shredder. The characters the comic creators hated, killed the best Shredder(arguably, not sure of the others) by accident....
Holy shit, after watching this, I just realized I’ve been watching your vids for 8 years, thx for never giving me and saving me from boredom Xavier. Love you man 🙏
i remember catching i think a rerun of this having seen no other turtle media, and it was generally pretty neat! i wouldn't engage with anything else turtle related until last year outside of Nostalgia Critic reviews lol
I guess my favorite part of the episode is when they cross into the mirage world; the '03 Turtles kept trashing the 80's Turtles, and then the OG's from the comic show up and they're just unimpressed with the '03 versions too (and then Mirage Mikey showing love to the 87 turtles and their belt buckles just topped it off) 💀
4:14 Also, The CW broadcast of DBZ Kai was a further censor of the Nicktoons censored version, and also the dub of DBZ Kai (across all DVD and TV broadcast, censored or not) was dubbed by 4Kids' old buddies at FUNimation (RIP), who distributed 4Kids' stuff on VHS and DVD.
just noticed that the 80s turtles and murder turtles were in the 2012 series but the murder turtles don't talk and the reason 80s turtles just made the portal gun but idk why they were been tru this before
Turtles forever was an amazing crossover, still hoping the manage go do another one, A four team teamup betwean '87,'03,''12, & Rise with cameos from the mirage & image comics & more would be amazing , (probably a logistical & licencing nightmare, but still awesome)
turtles forevers connection to tmnt 87 and other tmnt crossovers actually was directly referenced in saturday morning adventures recently, in issue 10 or 11 i think. shredder summons the technodrome from it saying that it comes from "their future" which has some fun implications. the crossover issue will probably have more answers about that, and the issue after that will have tiger claw from 2012 show up, which means that theyll all fit into the 87 timeline definitively soon tmnt saturday morning adventures has a lot of fun continuity and lore expansion for tmnt 87 in general, i recommend checking them out
tmnt in general has used turtles forevers "rules" as the basis for crossover stories which was always cool to me. the third batman and tmnt miniseries crossover also used mirage as an example of tmnts prime earth and idw has played off of the mirage turtles existing before without ever directly crossing over with them

It is amazing to me how much April has changed throughout the years.

No, he didn't voice Shredder in this.
I am not tired at all of that multiverse. Stuff love it
90s spider-man did it first and at the time it was the best
DC did it first with Crisis on Infinite Earths lmao

@@Mr.MaguroDC did it first with The Fuckin Flash.
Into the Flashver… no. No that doesn’t work.
Personally, I choose to believe in Phelan Porteous' theory that the 1987 turtles in this movie are not the actual turtles from the 1987 series, but rather a much dumber and sillier version of them from a dimension separate from the real 87 dimension.
we can pretend they're the cartoon all-stars/operation blue line turtles
@@NovastarDoughnut
They can't be the Operation blue line turtles. Their mouths actually move when they talk!
I like to think the ones from turtles forever are different while the 87 tmnt from the 2012 crossovers are the originals. My evidence, the voices
They are the same turtles, but before they appeared in Turtles Forever 87 turtles ate some pizza with funny looking mushrooms and got high.
I like Phelous as well, but it was one of his weakest reviews especially in the 87's next crossover in 2017 for the finale to 2012, he found them extra obnoxious that the 87 are overplayed as goofballs.
To think that Turtles did it TWICE, once before Spider-Verse and again only a year after the Spider-Verse comic finished... Kinda ironic.
Your TMNT vids are always my favorite! Great vid
Turtles Forever was so damn good. Oh my gawd.
I have a love hate relationship with this movie.
Cubix, loved that shit
Don’t act like this crossover didn’t disrespect the 80’d Turtles way more. They personalities was flanderized too
I actually rewatched the directors cut like two days ago...how convenient
Where can I find the director’s cut?

I bring up this movie once a week. I needs it get its flowers!
So basically into the turtle verse
Seeing that the 2012 crossover retconned 87 Krang into being a member of the Kraang (and thus an Utrom) I just headcanon that both crossovers are versions of the 87 turtles and not the 87 turtles.
I really loved this movie when it came out, it was so hype
I hope they the same for Unite two universes, the Earthspark Universe with the G1 Universe, and third universe I would choose is Transformers Prime.
I’d be interested to see the Unicron Trilogy crossover with say Transformers Prime myself. Or just bring back that universe a bit… I miss it and wanna see my favorite universe back a bit.
Didn't the 90s Spiderman character still do it first or we not counting that
A crossover of the OG Turtles, the Image Turtles, the 87 Turtles, the Archie Turtles, the Fleetway Turtles, OG live action Turtles, Welsh Publishing Turtles, the TMHT Comic strip Turtles, the TMNT Comic strip Turtles, Ladies' Home Journal Turtles, Titan UK Turtles, the 2003 Turtles, Dreamwave Turtles, Amazing Adventures Turtles, 2012 Turtles, Rise of Turtles, Bay Turtles, Anime Turtles, Panini Comics Turtles, the comic Batman/TMNT Turtles, the movie Batman/TMNT Turtles, New Earth Prime Turtles, Next Mutation Turtles, manga Turtles, Power Rangers/TMNT Turtles, TMNT vs. Street Fighter Turtles, TMNT x Stranger Things Turtles, the storybook Turtles, IDW Turtles, Palladium Books Turtles, the Blue Door Turtles and their future/superhero counterparts in each universe would be a kewl thing.

I wish I still had this dvd 😢
I'm sure you find the movie on TH-cam.
I think you forgot to mention that Bebop and Rocksteady ended up killing Umtrom(not sure if I spelt that right) Shredder. The characters the comic creators hated, killed the best Shredder(arguably, not sure of the others) by accident....
I agree, that was not a way to take out the best shredder in the turtle verse
Oh cruel irony
I'm really hoping in the Saturday morning adventures, there is a joke about the fact that the 80s turtles have met both the 03 and 2012 before
No offensive, the full cut has never been "lost media..."

i remember catching i think a rerun of this having seen no other turtle media, and it was generally pretty neat!
i wouldn't engage with anything else turtle related until last year outside of Nostalgia Critic reviews lol
I would really wish for the 2003 turtles to come back with another crossover. Idk if the current iteration Mutant Mayhem would be appropriate for it.
I wouldn’t say TMNT did it first since STAS final episode was basically into the spiderverse and that came out way before this movie
8:27 Funny, i just read that comic yesterday
This was my favorite movie when I was little. I loved tmnt so much 😭
Alright Turtle boy, time to talk about the TMNT 2012 crossover episode from season 4 now
The goat uploaded
I grew up watching both animated shows.
They were very different, but I loved them equally.😘
I always love hearing something like that.
They actually done it twice. The 87 turtles teamed with cgi ones, not sure what year.
I guess my favorite part of the episode is when they cross into the mirage world; the '03 Turtles kept trashing the 80's Turtles, and then the OG's from the comic show up and they're just unimpressed with the '03 versions too (and then Mirage Mikey showing love to the 87 turtles and their belt buckles just topped it off) 💀
I'd say the 80s turtles felt like a parody
4:15 Godzilla mendoza The cgi cartoon was called cubix robots for everyone
Love this goofy special so much, even with its flaws
“Light in the loafers” I’m going to bring this back
You have no idea how much I want a crossover between at least the 2012 and ROTTMNT turtles. I really do hope for a Turtles Forever 2 some day.
The 90s spider man cartoon did it first but this one still a good crossover.
Hope they do this again with the newer version of the turtles from rise and mutant mayhem
just noticed that the 80s turtles and murder turtles were in the 2012 series but the murder
turtles don't talk and the reason
80s turtles just made the portal gun but idk why they were been tru this before
4:05 You mean the 2000s and 2010s, and also 4Kids' shows were on Fox BEFORE The CW
Turtles forever was an amazing crossover, still hoping the manage go do another one,
A four team teamup betwean '87,'03,''12, & Rise with cameos from the mirage & image comics & more would be amazing ,
(probably a logistical & licencing nightmare, but still awesome)
Xavier unironically unlogged long forgotten childhood memories talking about the 4kidz Saturday morning line up
1:48 not everyone is tired of the multi-verse. I actually like the concept. So you can’t technically say everybody.
turtles forevers connection to tmnt 87 and other tmnt crossovers actually was directly referenced in saturday morning adventures recently, in issue 10 or 11 i think. shredder summons the technodrome from it saying that it comes from "their future" which has some fun implications. the crossover issue will probably have more answers about that, and the issue after that will have tiger claw from 2012 show up, which means that theyll all fit into the 87 timeline definitively soon
tmnt saturday morning adventures has a lot of fun continuity and lore expansion for tmnt 87 in general, i recommend checking them out
tmnt in general has used turtles forevers "rules" as the basis for crossover stories which was always cool to me. the third batman and tmnt miniseries crossover also used mirage as an example of tmnts prime earth and idw has played off of the mirage turtles existing before without ever directly crossing over with them
17:31 the part the best part from the 90s and 2012 turtles crossover
6:20 I would do ANYTHING to get a modern mold and scale of 2003 shredder.
I was at a con last month with Kevin Eastman and he said the last ronin story had been in their minds since the late 80
There was a sequal to the 2012/1987 Crossover that actually recreates the 80s artstyle.
A great review, going through a lot of stuff of the movie. This is what reviews are about. Normally TH-cam Channels just retell and entire movie and call it a day. You gave a lot of insight in the art, movie versions, a lil history of the tmnt. It was awesome to boot. Thank ya for this review, it was entertaining, interesting and hella well researched.
When Xavier talks about the tmnt, you know you’re in for a fun ride.
