    Brilliant video with lots of food for thought for me. I have done a bike safe and went on to do my IAM advanced so thought I couldn't do another bike safe! Come the summer I will put in for another one with the MET

    Your forward planning is on the money Bruce. I've driven HGV's as well as cars & motorbikes. I can't emphasise how important it is to look as far ahead as possible whilst highlighting hazards to yourself. Top content Bruce 👌

      Sorry.. totally disagree.. Bad example for a training video .. what training video would show someone overtaking vehicles on an a 'A' road in excess of 70 mph on several occasions and exceeding other speed limits throughout the video. ... a traing course would tell you to be observant at all times and if you observed his speedo at all, you would realise that's it's certainly not suitable as a training video

    Top notch video, refresher for those of us that have been biking for decades and all that we do instinctively that younger, less experienced riders might not know. Having been a Chief Instructor for Canada Safety Councils motorcycle courses, lane positioning, always having an "exit strategy" and defensive riding can never be over streesed. Thanks for the excellent job

      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Simon, aye riding this way you really do start to notice so much more whilst you’re riding - it does slow you down in many situations, but it also allows you to go quicker in others, and be smoother overall 👍

    I loved the bikesafe course. even the "theory" lesson at the start. The one issue I had, was I was only told what I wasn't do right (which is great), but it didn't necessarily tell me how to fix it.

  • @SouthWest-jj8yu

    This has been a great series Bruce one of the best examples of advanced riding especially the commentary. I am a member of the IAM, ride a blood bike and so do lots of miles in all weather and must redo training and a test not always IAM but with a recognised organisation every three years. What always surprises me with some bikers is that “if I’m able to ride really fast I’m a good rider” been there myself in my younger days but 40+ years of biking on see it differently now.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks bud, glad you’ve enjoyed them.
      Yes absolutely, I totally agree. It used to be all about speed for me, and the faster I went and faster I cornered, the better rider I felt I was.
      Now I see some riders on the road and cringe as I know they’re surviving mostly by luck, and eventually that’ll run out.
      Don’t get me wrong, there are some incredibly talented riders out there who are comfortable at way higher speeds for situations than I am, but I’m definitely much more reserved in my usage of speed than I used to be, and I’d like to think my vision ahead and risk assessments are higher than average now.
      Accidents still happen though and you can never think you know it all.
      I’ve recently done a day with ‘Rapid Training’ and I learned loads regarding my vision, positioning, and more.
      Every day is a school day 👍😉

      Personal choice, I don’t want to personally

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, never been an issue for me personally. My headlights and road positioning are a much larger factor in being noticed by other road users.
      Personally I only notice high-viz clothing after I’ve already spotted a bike due to their lights. I tend not to sit with traffic on the nationals and would rather get passed and away from potential hazards.
      But it’s a personal thing, I do t think anyone should be forced to wear anything in particular on a bike - helmet is a bare minimum and that’s fine by me.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant vid Bruce, I see too many bikers who don't use proper positioning and put themselves at a risk, not giving other road users a chance to see them. Life is too short, don't be in a hurry to end it. Being an ambulance tech and and a fellow biker, I just wonder when I will be picking that rider up off the road at times. Be safe!!

  • @paulcollins7185
    @paulcollins7185 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well done Bruce. You showed that the system of motorcycle control, is very much still within you and used in your riding to the effect it does give to riding. From your own history and training and old profession of; Police rider/driver, it is still serving you in your riding in your "profession" as a motorcycle vlogger, of which I think is at a high standard and sets example to others to follow, that if they were to also commit to some good training, with a professional rider trainer, they to could change their own ride so much for the better and safer. Watching you here shows, that it isn't boring, "old pipe and slippers brigade riding" as was so often thought in the past, but that it is the way to take one's own riding. You have just shown that and expressed it so well to your "subscribers", which I am one, it is so worth it to do these training/assessment opportunities. Well done mate and I hope many more see it and take it up themselves, leaving their egos at home. You've reached a lot of people who watch and listen to your advice on your channel, about bikes and riding and the fun to be had, but safely, as much as we did if not more! on the old Essex Police BikeSafe and currently on the Essex FireBike Better Biking course. Bless ya matey, enjoy once again well done on a great video Bruce.

      Bike Safe's nowt. It's just one day. Best to see it as a taster of what observed rides would be like as an associate (/pupil) with either IAM or ROSPA, and do an advanced course to test standard. You can't absorb much roadcraft or get your head around IPSGA in a day. Best you can say for Bike Safe is it's better than nowt - but only just.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @unfunny - Not at all. Some people don’t want to do IAM/RoSPA, I wouldn’t personally as it’s just not my style of riding. I don’t want so many restrictions and would rather just ride my own ride whilst utilising roadcraft as I see fit.
      Bikesafe gives people a wee taster of the main points, and that alone will go along way to making peoples ride safer for sure.
      But if IAM/RoSPA is your thing, then go for it 👍

    Haha you ride the same as me, on my advanced biker course they hammered me for riding one handed. Ditto on my Safe Rider course! Still do it when I’m happy and committed. Plus the Tigers have a lovely warm vent from the left hand of the three cylinder, just above your knee.

    New mature rider here. Taking my time on a 125 rather than jumping through the DAS and starting on a less forgiving format. (kudos to those who do, I judge not ;-) ) . Learned a lot from your commentary. This vid (and part 1) explain a lot of what I see other smart (ddfm ?) riders do and gives me a youtube rider I'm grateful to listen to and learn from. Thank you.

    The best biking video I've seen so far. Just passed the bike test last July and your commentary is a great mental refresher, especially regarding positions 1,2 &3.

    I am not a biker rider but l have done the motoring advanced course in the 80's ina van . It was good to see it from a bikers vision and commentary. An added bonus was the dulcet tones of a fellow Scotsman. I used to drive an impact lorry in road traffic management in London, it was interesting to see the reactions of motorists and bikers when l lowered the impact cushion, they would do anything to get past me.

    This could be a series; so informative and useful. It’s helpful k recognise the roads as well but this is really clear and even though I’ve been riding over 15 years I’ve learnt plenty. Thanks Bruce

    Awesome video. Was great listening to your commentary.
    It's watching you, and listening to the commentary, that you realise, how much you 'don't' see.....
    it was like a mini refresher, watching these, and Chopsies.
    Well done both, great video Bruce, great course too.
    Grumps.

    I enjoyed those two videos. I gave my RT back 7 years ago but I enjoyed it while it lasted, and the ride out with the police was enlightening to say the least. Keep up the good work 🌞

    Thanks Bruce - a great video and a useful reminder. Bikesafe is a great course and from my experience the guys who run them are universally excellent - worth refreshing once in a while.

    Wow……I’ll be re watching both parts….I have learnt so much….thank you for sharing, being both honest and clear during the rides, big shout out to the police as well…..I live in Jersey, very very busy narrow roads….I’ll be looking out at every option tomorrow….and road positioning, our police here even give us riders a polite nod of acknowledgment as they pass by…..excellent video and very helpful.

    An interesting point you made there @ 07:45 I think it was about filtering @teapotone.
    I work on the premise that if I cannot stop for a door opening or pedestrian walking out then I need to slow down and I often find myself slowing down and even letting other bikers past.

    A great couple of videos, i rode with a police instructor every other month for 3 years approx 14/15 years ago, I took a break from riding due to family commitments and return to it 18 months ago, due to being rusty, I seeked help form the Rapid Training guys and everything slotted back into place, I can't emphasize the importance of this type of training is, i agreed with you "slowed you down" statement however it made my progress between A -B much quicker. looking forward to seeing your video with the Rapid guys.

    Great video. I really find your thought process to be valuable - explaining why you do something as you do it. I have been riding 50 plus years and your video is still valuable. Thanks.
