as a Scotsman and a Celtic fan with leanings for Liverpool - I have to say hands down that Kenny is the greatest footballer Scotland has ever produced!
The guy was a magician on the pitch and an absolute gentleman off it, the way he carried himself and how he shouldered the club through the Hillsborough, Hysel disasters was exemplary. Should have been knighted donkeys years ago for that era alone.
It didn't show my favourite Goal of Dalglish, The left foot curl away at Ipswich! I'm Utd and have no problem stating my admiration for Dalglish, You can only hold your hands up to the guy.....
I was a young kid during Liverpool's heyday in the early 80s and what Dalglish could do was just mesmerizing. Platini probably got more kudos as a European footballer in that era but for me, Dalglish was far superior and I wasn't even a Liverpool supporter.
At Celtic he was surrounded by some wise old Lisbon lions and Jimmy Johnstone, He wasn’t stepping up much! and he had to learn to live with these guys. Genius purchase for the reds.
I grew up in the Gerrard era, the way people talk about Kenny is like nothing else. He's not just the greatest Liverpool player, he's one of the greatest people to ever play the game.
Pfffft. Stop it. Please. Top 5, probably. There were plenty before him who would be held in same regard. Many from before the 70's when I became a fan.
@@iandawson3171 Of course there have been many great players... most who played surrounded by great players. Stevie G did it with the terrible management of benitez and playing with a lot of rubbish teams. He saved benitez and Liverpool for years.
How many goals did he make for Ian Rush, you had to see KD in the ground to understand how intelligent and skillful he was, feel honoured to have seen him play.
Little known fact. Dalglish was on trial at Liverpool when he was 15/16 and was sent home (apparently shankly went mad when he realised they'd missed him after Paisley signed him). He was also on trial at West Ham. And they sent him home too.
I saw Kenny Dalgliesh in 1970 playing for Celtic in the Scottish reserve league cup semi final at Brockville ( Falkirk's home ground ) This was one of the famous quality street gang. McGrain, Connolly, Hay. Macari etc. There was this chubby No 4 big arsed dirty blond hair playing as a deep lying playmaker. Wow ! he stood out as class even among these stars. He conducted the whole show and had everything two footed, hold the ball, hard as nails. But it was the vision and the passing that stood out. He had football skill all right but he had a better football brain. One instance was when he got the ball and was challenged. Out went that big back side and the player bounced off. Walked it past a further two played and with a player on his shoulder shielded the ball from him for about 10 seconds then made this defense splitting pass on his terms. The late great Jock Stein said ' The biggest problem I had with Kenny was what position would I play him, he would star in them all ' It is one of my fondest and proudest footballing memories to be able to say I saw a genius before most other people had that pleasure.
@@alanbrady3901 What price would a 26 year old Kenny go for now ? 100 million pound Plus easy. Not only would you get a 20goal+ a season player he would make the same again for players around him. It would be a bidding war knowing whoever gets him will have leagues, cups and European trophies guaranteed for the next 7 years. In other words whatever the price paid it would be a bargain. Was I not lucky seeing him at 17 ?
for me Kenny is the greatest player ever , for me no other player has been so consistently good season after season , plenty of world class players have 1 , 2 or 3 good seasons, very few played well every season........
You do realize we won at the Etihad and Stamford Bridge last season. The two hardest places to win at. We finished Eighth because the players just gave up on the league after we lost to Arsenal at Anfield. What did we have to play for in the league? We definitely couldn't finish fourth after that loss. That's why the performances in the 1st half in the league and the cup performances were so good under Kenny.. The players had something to play for.
Good show Being Liverpool Brendan Rodgers came across as a thoroughly likeable guy. And some nice footage of Lucas Leiva returning to fitness after his injury. Liverpool missed Leiva last season and are missing him at the start of this season as well.
My all time 11 Goal:Reina Defence:Carragher,Hyypia,Agger,Enrique(Best right back to play in England for a while) Midfield:John Barnes,Gerrard,Alonso,Dalglish Strikers:Ian Rush and Torres
Great great player. And I think people r wrong to say he's a bad manager. Yes we're having a bad run at the minute, but we've won a cup and reached the semi final of the fa cup. He can't be that bad. Let's give him another few seasons
Agreed, probably not in terms of title, recently, but in terms of support for the players and managers (besides Woy) we are the bets. We also make alot of money and can attrach top players, like Sahin, still.
All time liverpool: GK Clemens CB Hansen CB Hyypia RB Phil Neal LB Emlyn Hughes CM Graeme Souness CM Gerrard RW Steve Heighway LW Barnes CF Kenny Dalglish CF Ian Rush. Bench: Bruce Grobbelar, Carragher, Mark Lawrenson, Ian Callaghan, Jan Molby, Kevin Keegan, Robbie Fowler. Managers: Bob Paisley, Shankley and the rest of '' The Bootroom''.
@LFCHistory i agree, hes better off having his reputation intact and playing the ambassador role. hes basically in charge of the youth academy, so hopefully the next gerrard, carra, owen or even rooney will most likely play for lfc because kenny will be the one to sell the club to them...a awhile back an old lfc scout wrote a book and said wenger is the one who is most like how lfc used to scout...the good kids are out there, they need to find em!
@LFCHistory Although i wouldnt mind if Rafa came back. They both have different types of playing , and if both of them put their ideas together, there might be some magic going on
Dalglish is a good manager. He made mistakes because he was out of the game for so long and wasn't ready for millions he was given to spend. He was more used to big guy, little guy, two winger and CM's who can pass it long. Also he lost Lucas, Gerrard, Agger and Suarez for significant parts of last season. He did sign some good players like Enrique, Suarez, Coates and there's still time for Henderson and there's a slim chance for Carroll. Anyway he was much better that Woy at Anfield.
Shame they didn't count asssists back then because i bet he would have led the league in assists. He seemed to create every other goal Liverpool scored.
His signings were bad, but his football was good. Lucas was out last season. Gerrard Suarez, and Agger almost never started a match together, because Evra got Suarez banned, Gerrard and Agger were always injured. Yes some of his signings were bad but he also signed enrique and Suarez himself. With another year Kenny would have challenged for the top our spot. Stevie G himself said he didn't believe the club needed any changes. "Go look it up if you don't believe me."
I love le LFC
Sacking Brendan Rodgers in December/January would be laughable as well. He needs to be given time to build a squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League.
@LFCHistory I think he's covering all his bases actually. He's got Sammy Lee still there, he's JUST brough in Steve Clarke. Perhaps if he can get Rush more involved too and a few more players of true quality in, it will be a very different story to Keegan.

Good team but out of personal preference I would have Bruce in goal for all-time XI or Reina. I would have Hansen to go with Hyypia at CB. Barnes on the RW. I would have Dalglish on the pitch with Fowler and Rush on the bench as a super sub, just because he's quick, works hard and can score when he wants.

Love Kenny... great man, great player, Liverpool legend
One word: Legend. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not only a great football player but a true ambassador to the game. I don't think anyone who is a football fan would disagree

So glad I saw him from first match to last ,a joy to watch , great spot by bob paisley !!!!
Worth remembering when Dalglish arrived very few commentators - and not many fans - believed he could fill the boots of departing hero Kevin Keegan.
At Celtic he was surrounded by some wise old Lisbon lions and Jimmy Johnstone, He wasn’t stepping up much! and he had to learn to live with these guys. Genius purchase for the reds.

6 Division one titles, 3 European Cups, 4 League Cups, 1 European Super Cup and 1 FA Cup with Liverpool in 13 years. What a legend.
My god Liverpool were so good back then. King Kenny and all the rest, it was just a great team.
