We can go on and on about Barnes, but our Liverpool family really know who Barnes is and how important was to our club, we will always love and remember him. John made Liverpool an international club. He is the reason why Liverpool have the most fans than any other team/club in the world. We never walk alone, every nation we go we have a family. We really never walk alone.
Class act not just for the amazing footballer he was, but as a man. He put up with so much racist bullshit and rose above it. The man let his football do the talking . Awesome.
I idolised Barnes when I was a kid. He was never 'black', he was John Barnes, Liverpool legend. Colour never entered into it, and still doesn't. Legend, full stop.
John Barnes one of greatest left wingers at Liverpool history period, An unbelievable football talent in his era. Goals Assists Skills Plus great guy Had everything to be a Liverpool legend!
What an amazing player Johnny Barnes was. I remember my bedroom covered wall and roof with LFC posters. Our man JB was and will always be my hero. Incredible player. YNWA.
No way Barnes would be worth only 55 million I can tell you that he would be worth a hell of a lot more than that. Say, around the 95 Million mark, even maybe over one hundred million. That is how good he was. If Bale is worth 85 million now, Barnes would have smashed the one hundred million pound barrier no question at all about that.
Favourite Liverpool player ever. I think if he’d have been able to play in Europe I think the rest of the would have recognised him as one of the best.
sole reason I supported Liverpool in the 1st place Barnes was my biggest childhood football idol. not sure if anyone realised how great he would become for lfc in summer 87 but he super surpassed that expectation. was def an important buy for lfc breaking down racial barriers and for Barnes himself to test his ability at a big club. Thanks Dalglish that's your best ever signing maybe suarez comes close. Thanks Barnes for the super memories growing up watching you as a kid
I wish I was alive to see him play live every week instead if having to watch all of these videos on TH-cam of a great player ! I wish Liverpool still had a brilliant player like him .... YNWA !
John Barnes turned me into a liverpool fan when he signed all my mates at school remembered the goal he scored for england against brazil when he took on the full brazilian team and scored a amazing goal. Since then i have been a liverpool fan hopefully Sterling will become the new john Barnes
First 3 seasons at LFC Digger was the best player in the country by some distance, Gazza, & Robson included....he was the stand out player in a brilliant LFC side. Football genius.!!
Awesome player, I remember him when I started watching the premier league in the mid-90's, he was still in Liverpool, still doing his stuff despite being over 30...incredible player and a charismatic guy.
Yeah, the shame of the English managers over the years is that they could not see a way to use these gifted creatives types. And so they tried to turn them into another squadie, a runner, a marthon man, when finess players like Barnes and Hoddle, should have been played as that unknown quantity. You build teams around players like them, you let them have a say on the way they are utilised. You get the rest of the team to understand and interact with them.. The trouble with the typical camp mentality is everyone is training for their place, they are competing with the other player for the same position, hoping to get the nod ahead of the other player. They are each trying to say to the manager, we can play well without x. With that kind of mentality, they aren't looking to pull the best from each other, and so go come the big game they have only that vision created for them by the manager, but little else. They are selected to fit a plan, not for their ability to improvise or think beyond that plan.
Pool's best players just pure talent and ability to do anything with the ball, Barnes along with Suarez even though he wasn't there long. Then Daglish and Gerrad.
Indeed John Charles Barnes will go down as one of Liverpool fc's best players. He was the catalyst&the spearhead of the brilliant Liverpool fc side built by King KENNY for the 1987/88.He fought racism with such class, humility, civility&elegance. He managed to silence the racist bigots &England boo boys with his brilliant footballing brain. Rightly so he was voted the 1988&1990 Footballer of the year. Its a pity Liverpool were banned from Europe 1985-1990.That Liverpool side would have added 1/2 European cup(s).
Whilst Gerrard may be the clubs greatest ever servant and Dalglish and Suarez were sensational but no one and I mean no one was in his fellas page. Barnes was the greatest player the world has ever seen. There's a video on TH-cam about 6 mins long and it shows things that had never been done with a ball and have never been done again.
John Barnes è stato una mezzala , tecnicamente ed atleticamente completa .Fisicamente per: potenza , velocità , elevazione ed acrobazia ricorda Rummenigge , per abilità tecnica Pelé ed estro sinistro ed inventiva Maradona !
I honestly think that Ryan Babel had the potential to reach the heights of the Great John Barnes. Too bad he was never given a decent oppurtunity to prove himself. He did score some vital goals for us though. But John Barnes was phenomenal. I wish we could scout just one player who possesses such extraordinary quality.
1987: John Barnes Peter Beardlsey John Aldridge Combined Transfer Fee = £3.55m 2012 John Barnes Peter Beardlsey John Aldridge Estimated Transfer Fee = ???
Beardlsey was signed for 1.9 million, Barnes 0.9 How Barnes didn't break the million barrior i'll never know. What he was doing at Watford more than justified the price tag.

Thats not true tho is it?
Class act not just for the amazing footballer he was, but as a man.
He put up with so much racist bullshit and rose above it.

My era so I'm biased, but my favourite LFC player. A gentleman, wonderful ambassador for the club and sport and a thrill to watch. Truely inspiring.
Amazing player at his peak. Barnes and Beardsley were unstoppable in the late '80s.
1987 to 1991 barnes was at his best
I remember growing up watching this great team in the late 80's!!!
....Digger Barnes was the cream of that crop.... and my fave player of all time :_)

Favourite Liverpool player ever. I think if he’d have been able to play in Europe I think the rest of the would have recognised him as one of the best.
LEGEND, BECAUSE ALL OF THOSE 84 GOALS WHERE CLASS!
A very good player. Based on his interviews, a quite articulate and intelligent one too.

Exactly!
John Barnes was a fantastic player! Should have been an
England staple....Best English player of his time but foolish managers could not see that!

it was an honour to lace his boots...absolute legend...
John Barnes. Captain. Leader. Legend.
Barnes caused me fall in love with football as an art form. Those 80's Liverpool teams were just downright entertaining.
Barnes is the best in history!
Greetings from Serbia
Wonderful football player,my favourite player growing up.So technically gifted his left foot was incredible!
Pool's best players just pure talent and ability to do anything with the ball, Barnes along with Suarez even though he wasn't there long.
Then Daglish and Gerrad.

87 to 91 he was the 2nd best player in the world after maradona
True football heroesfrom the past.
Modern day footballers seem to behave like children compared to the players of the 80s
from a rugby country, growing up in nz when soccer (fb) was before rugby (tv), i thought jb was something else, there was something about him
لاعب مذهل من ذكريات طفولتي

Very Ronaldo like.. Legend!
No my friend Ronaldo is Barnes like
Mike Sheerin lol who's Barnes?
The. Man. Full. Stop.
Bale does not even compare with Barnes in his heyday. No one does that I can think of, past or present within British Football.
Not even Cantona can compete with this. Barnes was in a different class.
Can anybody help me?...I am trying to remember the chant at the start of the video played with the ring of fire...
Russel Nash, What's the fan chant at the beginning of the video? can any one tell me?
Listen to the Anfield Rap, Barnsey could rap as well. Renaissance man.
Jordan Ibe will be the next John Barnes
He's got a long way to go...... TRUST ME!
