TIP: when you paint defined things like letters, don't wait for the paint to dry, wait just until the paint gets tacky. Touch on a non critical area, and if your finger doesn't lift the paint, but still has that sticky feeling, that's when you pull the tape off. You wanna use slow, but finite movement when you pull stuff, and when you have islands, pull them last, using a sharp tool like a needle, from the center, never the edge. I suggest you experiment it with a few lines and letters a few times until you get the right timing, nobody gets it right the first time. BUT, if you grasp the timing right, you'll get super crisp letters with defined edges that aren't fuzzy.

Beautiful job. Nicely photographed too. Makita Quality. Don't have the chain too tight. You should be able to pull down at the centre of the bottom side and the bottom of the tooth should clear the bar. Is that a steel bar?
You should not be using engine oil as a chain oil. All of the used oil will end up in the environment and pollute it. There's a reason why every modern chainsaw oils are vegetable-based. Thanks for the great video though. Great restoration.
You should not go in two directions while using file to sharp the chain blades. And you should have also sanded the plate with finer sanding paper then polish it to give a look of chrome or mirror.

Your show makes me want to buy every vintage Makita I come across. They are obviously built with the best of quality.

Also, if you happen to let dry too long, you can go around the edge of each letter, or whatever image you're painting, with a razor of some sort.
as well as this use a reverse mask with the vinyl. Then spray over the blank areas and peel away the mask.

@@gear_show Not that much problem if saw is only used indoors but dedicated vegetable-based chain oils are much safer to the environment.
Also, chainsaw oil is thick and extremely sticky so it doesn't immediately fly off the chain when in use.
