Caffery is so patient and respectful. Love to see a player honor his influence and display his own skills without letting his own ego run amok. Well done Chris!
No Gene Simmons is because the x-factor of KISS and what made them famous was what they did on stage and Gene Simmons was the one spitting out blood and blowing fire which was unheard of back then (keep in mind that 10 years prior to the KISS explosion, the Beatles were playing on stage in suit and ties so performances were very milquetoast prior to KISS and Alice Cooper). People came for the music but stayed for what Gene was going to do next. As for Ace, and I know I am going to get flack for this, but Ace in terms of just technical skills and ability to improvise leads is easily the worst guitar player KISS has ever had. Ace is very good at making riffs, he's almost Jimmy Paige level when it comes to rhythm, but in terms of playing a lead Ace sucks. Vincent and Thayer are miles ahead of Ace in that department. Ace legitimately plays as if he reached a level of skill he was content with in the 70s and then never worked to progress his skills further.
LLB999888777 That moment when you realize there is thousand of guy playing like Malmsteen but no one of them will ever compose a piece of music like Far beyond the sun.
Ace is good enough but Chris Caffery and Criss Oliva for that matter (Savatage original guitar player who was killed in 93 by a drunk driver) should be house hold names, they defined excellence.
Amen. Criss Oliva deserves so much more recognition. He did a ton of things that other guitarists weren't doing when he was alive. Such as frenzy fret tapping and down tunings.
Cool. Aug. 27, 1977. ALIVE II at the Forum. What these guys don't give him credit for is doing his homework and having a nice little blues riff that sounded like Page, but not bad Page, good Page. Ace doesn't try too hard, and it's part of his sound. I think he's nicer than people think, but I don't know. I'm confused about Kiss lately. I overdosed on Kiss in 2014. But at least Ace isn't part of Kiss anymore.
Thank you. I don't know why, but that was the best interview with Ace in about thirty years. I almost forgot about Kiss completely. Great interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU.
Ace was the bridge between the classic rock guitarists like Page, Townsend , Clapton and the Van Halen style guitarists.. Ace was quite innovative. No one sounded quite like him.. Early Kiss guitar solos were quite awesome.
I just saw Chris at a Trans Siberian Orchestra concert for the 1st time. He is AMAZNG! Probably the best performance concert I have ever seen! I had to find out more about him. Blown away!
It's so awesome that he's as old as he is and using a DAW like Pro Tools. Usually, they just have an engineer do all that shit, but the fact that he's personally working on the project makes it so damn cool.
Around 8:50 Ace says"Paul and gene never complimented me about my solos" But I actually read the interview after Ace Left they asked Gene why Ace was in the band and he said ," Ace could make the Guitar sing,a lot of guys can't ,they would audition and we would just say next" "Ace was the Kiss sound of that era,but the sound eventually had to change ,and Ace didn't " I think they didn't want ace to get on their level ,he was more like "The Employee"
I don't know why I've never seen this little piece of gold before now! Two of my favorite guitarists having a sit down! Ace Frehley and Chris Caffery of SAVATAGE; This is pure gold ❤️🎸⭐⚡💪💥
Yeah... I thought Ace was screwing off with the guitar taps making mockery of it. but dammm... he was actually trying to do tapping. dont get me wrong.. Ace is legendary and super cool guy. Tapping aint his style though..
Yrah it's bad but there is no sustain amf I believe he is just shpwing the technique. I love Ace but he certainly has not kept his chops up but still love him!!
ESTE ACE ME DESILUCIONA, NO ES LA MITAD DE LO QUE ERA EN LOS 70´S U 80´S, Y PENSAR QUE ERA UN IDOLO, MI IDOLO, ES UNA PENA VERLO Y SENTIRLO ASI, MI MAS PROFUNDA PENA.
I love Ace, always have always will. He was my fave in Kiss. And the older he gets, the sexier he is. It's not sexual..I think that he is true, down to earth and has a beautiful heart. Keep Rockin Ace..Shock Me
FINALLY they released this! Chris Caffery 5 days after this video he did something fucking awesome for me and will be released some months down the road ;)
I'd love to see Adrian Smith and Brian May do one of these, or Jannick Gers and Jeff Beck. I'd love to see one of Maiden's guys yuck it up with one of their influences.
I saw the trans-Siberian orchestra with my lady two Decembers ago,and found it pretty neat.I also saw kiss when they re-united for the first time.of course the kiss show was my fav!
I was a KISS fan because of Ace Frehley. Ace mentioned the influence of Jeff Beck who I think is the greatest. Ace gave me some of the best rock years of my life and still does but Gene and Paul don't !!!
NO matter who you are,you will grow old and your talents will fade, this is life. This may happen at 50 or 70 or 90 but it will happen. What i actually find embarrassing is a bunch of bedroom wannabe nobodies commenting on this guy after the career he had and you have never had one at all.
Kate Andrews I totally agree with you. Some hang in longer than others, but time will get you, sooner or later. More so, in sports. Rock music, if played correctly, is very physical. It takes its toll. Ace was never a guitar clinic type of player. He's still a great guitarist, with an identifiable style. His playing makes more sense live, playing with a band, not isolated. Check out recent shows. He sounds great.
Kate Andrews Absolutely, Ace still Rocks. So he's not a technically gifted guitarist - either is Jimmy Page. Ace has written Classic Riffs n Tracks, influenced a generation to take up guitar. His Legend is secure. Who's Chris Caffery ?
Rod McLean I agree and I'd like to add to that? Have you ever noticed how musical Ace's solo's are? They are memorable. You can sing every single one of them. That's a great guitar player. A lot of technical player never put a memorable moment down on a track. Plus, Ace is a rock star. They don't teach you that at Berklee.
J.D. Soos Totally. These guys have the raw street feel to theiir playing. Very musical , simple yet devastating. Technically brilliant players like Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen etc do nothing for me. Peoples ears pickup on musical players , as with a great sounding amp/guitar. All the best tracks KISS recorded for me were Ace's. His guitar work is very underated (by Gene and Paul), just watched a vid of him playing a few weeks back in Sydney, Australia. His chops are still all there. Ace is a very organic player as are all the greats. No matter what Paul and Gene say, Ace is a true Rock Legend and Icon. Espeacially to us guitarists. Thayer may be able to copy, but his playing will never have the heart and soul of Ace's. You can pickup immediately when you hear Ace that it's him playing. Not to forget the massive contribution he made in look , riffs , songs , playing style, inventiveness ( those unique effects Les Pauls) he created to the success and influence of KISS on a generation.
Before I even clicked on this, I thought to myself that this would be a one sided discussion. And it was. But Ace is Ace, I dont think its ego. He's the Space Ace...comon....he's just stating fact. He's the hero to millions of people and he hears it every day. Hes also a character and in his own reality most of the time. Not that hes being ignorant, but he simply doesnt know much about the other guy. I get a kick out just listening to him talk.....hes like a cartoon. Love the guy.
+Roy Martin yes, and it would be nice to see these guys get back to the classical roots of metal that the European greats brought over here. but sadly, so many American metal bands have deviated from the classical roots of metal.
Savatage is one of the greatest bands of all time! Losing Cris Olivia was a huge blow for lovers of great guitar playing. He was so awesome! Chris C. Was also great with Savatage.
Ace's style is all Ear .I hear a lot of Jimmy Page ,and Clapton ,obviously, but actually SKYNARD is what i hear most in his Kiss alive era solos . He is from Ridgewood NJ ,a few guys mentioned they would jam with him ,and they were southern rockers doing Allman brothers ,down at the old ackerman music ,Midland Park Ace's style is like what an Artist would create as a caricature of a guitar player ,allways going for a sound or an Idea ,technique only a vehicle to do an other idea . I learned more about Jimmy Page from listening to Ace ,than listening to jimmy Page . Ace uses the exact Black Dog guitar phrasing at the end of Black Dog in
headunits He's just not an inquisitive dude, he's also probably very much used to being the one interviewed. It's funny how Ace is drinking coffee (presumably), but Chris is all over the place here. 😀
Totally agree man. I'm a huge fan of so much of what Ace did. Would seriously take me an hour to type it all out here. But so many of his interviews in the past couple decades or so just leave me wishing he'd drop the ego and all the resentment about past stuff with Paul n' Gene and just relax and hang out with the interviewer (or, in this case, the co-interviewee). Chris starts out telling him what an influence Ace was on him and all Ace can do is almost complain saying, "Ya know how many times I've heard that?". Okay Ace, then how about talk to Chris about his music or some of the common joys or pitfalls you both would have experienced as touring musicians. I get that he's probably just way too used to being asked the same questions or told the same things over and over but you'd think that would leave him looking for opportunities to have a different freaking conversation for once. But no, all paths lead to, "Y'know, Paul and Gene never once came up and said Hey, nice solo Ace". We get it, you guys were all a bunch of shits to one another but maybe if ya hadn't let the money n' fame fuel so much over-indulgence in the partying life, we'd never have had to hear of Tommy Thayer outside of Black n' Blue. C'mon Ace, get over yourself and the past and just enjoy your legacy bro.
Probably because no one gives a shit about Chris. Especially ACE. He barely knows who he is. He's Ace fucking Frehley. He is a massive star and an icon. His adoration for modern rock guitarists is not required.
This was good. Will now pay more attention to Chris. He is an Ace Fan! i"m sure you when you trolls get to meet Chris...just put down Ace and see how far you get!
I wonder if ace knows that Chris is sooo much better on guitar than he is. And not like even close. Chris is one of the best. And seems to be such a nice guy.
It’s clear Ace lost his marbles long ago. Paul and Gene almost always give him full credit for his work with Kiss and say how memorable and iconic his solos were.
My guess is that Ace has no clue who this guy is. But the wonderful Chris is at least being nice. Dont get me wrong, Ace blew my mind as a kid, but jesus, Chris is one of the best out there.
Ronnie Montrose has his Les Paul stolen and some 15 years later , the guy who stole it or " found it " , something like that said " here is your long lost lost Les paul ""
Erick Thor If you do it right, it sounds good . . . ala Glenn Tipton and Joe Satriani. The first note (highest) is really clear. I do both depending on the situation
"Gene and Paul never gave me credit for my solos " , this shit never ends lol , he has such a " hardon " for them. What a fucking band " Ace the Doper , laughing , giggling wearing two different color shoes , Peter Criss wants to " wack someone / r give them cement shoes " , Gene has that look like WTF , march in lock step this is a " drill ", Chest out , stand up straight and Paul is acting like a foofy out of place type of guy having a " Panzi , Spastic attack " !!The making of a seriously screwed up fire drill !
damn ace is a strange dude, socially awkward and a bit out of touch with reality, but how could you not be when a huge chunk of your life is spent playing in one of the biggest rock n roll bands of all time
i mean that is two different era's you can't compare these guys... you have to be fair... Ace was that 70s 60s twang etc... and Chris was like and 80's speed demon!
I get the impression Ace is giving off this vibe like he can't be bothered talking to Chris, like he'd rather be somewhere else. Regardless, he's really deteriorated as a player. That pick-tapping lick just sucked!
These guys in KISS really need to get over themselves. A little humility goes along way. Chris is such a neat dude and is trying to have a conversation.
is this the band that plays that one song during Xmas time. that's how it know them. i listen to too much radio...and youtube...dang. i think i know more panic at the disco then trans-siberia.
haha, right on. Met you in Buffalo in the late 90's at a small Kiss convention in a bar. Bought both books, super fun reads "Trouble walkin" haha. cheers man
BiggBoi Sam lol how is he hating? were making fun of his tapping technique cause it sounds like a 14 year old amateur guitarist. besides i think its more embarrassing that ace frehley is professional guitar player but cant pull this technique off, so how about you stop hating on those who have fair accurate opinions.
Came here thinking who does the blonde dude think he is.. leaving here wondering who Ace thinks he is? That guitarist was super cool and can totally shred.. going to check out his band now. What is it with the Kiss guys? All ego.. Page or Plant would be keen to learn about the other dude.. Ace, I love the guy but get it together man! Xx
I think that's just Ace being shy. He was probably told to just play guitar and talk without a script or anything and due to his shyness he just kind of went along with the conversation which was Caffrey gushing over Frehley.
Caffery is so patient and respectful. Love to see a player honor his influence and display his own skills without letting his own ego run amok. Well done Chris!
"It doesn't matter if you miss a few notes, it's about the heart in it"
-Acs Frehley
Ace Frehley is the greatest gift KISS ever gave to the world. He was the x-factor in that band.
You know it !!! Ace brought guitar licks to KISS !!!
5:56 .....the moment you realize you are a better guitar player than Ace Frehley
Hahahaha! He must of had a bad breakfast!
He tries to replicate a piece off Alive 2 from his solo.doesn't pan out to well.
LLB999888777 That moment when you realize there is thousand of guy playing like Malmsteen but no one of them will ever compose a piece of music like Far beyond the sun.
+LLB999888777 HAHAHAHA!!!
+LLB999888777 That was hard to watch. How embarrassing.
Ace is good enough but Chris Caffery and Criss Oliva for that matter (Savatage original guitar player who was killed in 93 by a drunk driver) should be house hold names, they defined excellence.
Gungriffen Amen brother. \m/
Oliva.. what a great player and writer. It's a shame Savatage never hit it BIG. I guess I don't care though, I still listen to them often.
And lest we not forget Al Pitrelli..........
Both Crisses are underrated. Savatage is still one of my favorites
Amen. Criss Oliva deserves so much more recognition. He did a ton of things that other guitarists weren't doing when he was alive. Such as frenzy fret tapping and down tunings.
Sometimes you shouldn't meet your idols. Mystery & wanting is probably more rewarding.
Thomas Ramsey Why do you say that
@@classicrockcollector1279 Because Chris found out that Ace was a drunk, narcissistic, moron.
Not any more
My first concert was Kiss. January 1978 at Olympia Stadium, Detroit Michigan. I was a few months inside 15 years old.
Cool. Aug. 27, 1977. ALIVE II at the Forum. What these guys don't give him credit for is doing his homework and having a nice little blues riff that sounded like Page, but not bad Page, good Page. Ace doesn't try too hard, and it's part of his sound.

im Going to go see them Nov 30th, really excited been a Savatage fan for years, and will do a video Review on it.
I could watch these two for many, many hours on end.
Love Ace. Him and Peter are my fav members. Kiss army!
It's so awesome that he's as old as he is and using a DAW like Pro Tools. Usually, they just have an engineer do all that shit, but the fact that he's personally working on the project makes it so damn cool.
Ace Frehley is ranked thirteenth of all heavy metal guitarist! Not a bad feat! 😲
Ace “you have no idea how many times I’ve heard that” Frehley
Around 8:50 Ace says"Paul and gene never complimented me about my solos" But I actually read the interview after Ace Left they asked Gene why Ace was in the band and he said ," Ace could make the Guitar sing,a lot of guys can't ,they would audition and we would just say next" "Ace was the Kiss sound of that era,but the sound eventually had to change ,and Ace didn't " I think they didn't want ace to get on their level ,he was more like "The Employee"

& I just love Chris.. so awesome, so talented..
That tapping is fucking horrible
My day is complete😍
2 Of My Favourite guitarist Together
Chris Caffery is not only a great guitarist but a great musician … the highest honor you can have ! thank you Chris
Man, i´m a Kiss fan but that "tapping" at 5:50 is the worst shit that i´ve ever seen......
Yeah... I thought Ace was screwing off with the guitar taps making mockery of it. but dammm... he was actually trying to do tapping. dont get me wrong.. Ace is legendary and super cool guy. Tapping aint his style though..
i totally agree !!!
Yrah it's bad but there is no sustain amf I believe he is just shpwing the technique. I love Ace but he certainly has not kept his chops up but still love him!!
it IS god awefull
Cut him some slack guys he's old now. ☺
Such a pity what `time` can do to ACE. But Chris is so nice to him
Ace was great mid 70's, no crap tapping today can take that away from him...
ESTE ACE ME DESILUCIONA, NO ES LA MITAD DE LO QUE ERA EN LOS 70´S U 80´S, Y PENSAR QUE ERA UN IDOLO, MI IDOLO, ES UNA PENA VERLO Y SENTIRLO ASI, MI MAS PROFUNDA PENA.
This is great! Thank you FUSE !!
I saw the Dynasty tour. Ace still is the man.
Two of my favs!! Great video!
Please do something like this with an Iron Maiden member
I'd love to see Adrian Smith and Brian May do one of these, or Jannick Gers and Jeff Beck. I'd love to see one of Maiden's guys yuck it up with one of their influences.
that moment when you realize how great a les paul sounds without effects . man that sound
LOVE Ace..he is honest. He idolized the bands I grew up with...led Zep etc...
Never heard Ace talking..having heard songs like "strutter" I expected to be almost normal Haha I can't stop laughing every time he talks hahaha
I love his New York accent and he has that New York Groove. Go Ace..We love you.
"Paul and Gene never came up to say :"heY nice solo"... I DO: GREAT SOLOS ACE!!!!!
I saw the trans-Siberian orchestra with my lady two Decembers ago,and found it pretty neat.I also saw kiss when they re-united for the first time.of course the kiss show was my fav!
ACE FOREVER !!!
The Marshall feedback!!! Gets me going
I was a KISS fan because of Ace Frehley. Ace mentioned the influence of Jeff Beck who I think is the greatest. Ace gave me some of the best rock years of my life and still does but Gene and Paul don't !!!
I love ace frahley,unique picking style.dirty rocknroll stuff..love it.
Notice how Ace never asks Chris any questions, it’s all “me, me, me” with Ace.
Came here to hear some stuff about Savatage. All I got was Ace Frehley interviewing himself.
My god this series is AMAZING!! Fucking keep it going PLEASE! =)
Inge Bowman Yes, exactly.
Chris Caffery can totally rock it
This is so awesome! ❤
Chris has some kicking tunes himself
How envious is Ace at the end at Chris
Not
What’s song is ace playing at 11:28
Ozone from his solo record
Savatage were a great staight up Metal band right when there was either Glam or Thrash.
*Thrash was great but it was nice to hear a staight up Metal band once in a while.
+Roy Martin yes, and it would be nice to see these guys get back to the classical roots of metal that the European greats brought over here. but sadly, so many American metal bands have deviated from the classical roots of metal.
Indeed. Iron Maiden can only do it for so long haha. I love those guys too, I'll never get sick of ST, Killers, Piece Of Mind and Powerslave.
Savatage is one of the greatest bands of all time! Losing Cris Olivia was a huge blow for lovers of great guitar playing. He was so awesome! Chris C. Was also great with Savatage.
No one can play like Ace. No one even tries.
take my girls to see TSO every year, and Chris Caffery..you rock! I love Ace too though!
Can't find pt2
Jeff Daniels in drag? Lmao - All kidding aside, Mr. Caffery is an astonishing guitar player
Ace doesn't remember anything! But still love the guy!! Chris is such an underrated guitarist. Still waiting on that new Savatage album!? 🙏
Ace's style is all Ear .I hear a lot of Jimmy Page ,and Clapton ,obviously, but actually SKYNARD is what i hear most in his Kiss alive era solos . I learned more about Jimmy Page from listening to Ace ,than listening to jimmy Page . Ace uses the exact Black Dog guitar phrasing at the end of Black Dog in
Both Awesome!! 😊😊
Great video, about this guitar leyends
What an ego on Ace, he literally didn't ask Chris one question, did he know it wasn't an Ace Frehley interview??
i got that too
headunits He's just not an inquisitive dude, he's also probably very much used to being the one interviewed.
It's funny how Ace is drinking coffee (presumably), but Chris is all over the place here. 😀
headunits who cares! Hes Ace freakin Frehley
Totally agree man. I'm a huge fan of so much of what Ace did. Would seriously take me an hour to type it all out here. Speed is not everything.
This was good. Will now pay more attention to Chris. He is an Ace Fan! i"m sure you when you trolls get to meet Chris...just put down Ace and see how far you get!
where is part two?
It's would be great if Ace released a blues album :)
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
aahhh fun...
I love ACE, he is fucking hilarious
Ace sounds like Bobcat Goldthwaite.
lol
I love Ace and I also loved Bobcat Goldwaite.
Can you imagine a Dimebag and Zakk one of these! That would be almighty
Ace is bad ass New York dude !!!!👍😻😃
I wanted to hear that example of what he meant by Ace doing it with a pick? Then I kept listening and heard it.
I wonder if ace knows that Chris is sooo much better on guitar than he is. And not like even close. Chris is one of the best. And seems to be such a nice guy.
He's like the Joe Walsh of Metal.
It’s clear Ace lost his marbles long ago. Paul and Gene almost always give him full credit for his work with Kiss and say how memorable and iconic his solos were.
I would tell Paul & Gene....Here..as you hand them each a guitar....since my solos aren't up to your standard..you can do the solos the next show
That's Rocking Roll !
Ozone is an awesome song from Ace.
yo Ace .. yo ..Chris ..
🍻
My guess is that Ace has no clue who this guy is. But the wonderful Chris is at least being nice. Dont get me wrong, Ace blew my mind as a kid, but jesus, Chris is one of the best out there.

Chris Talkin'Gettin Guitar With The One'Only Ace Frehley
It’s funny to watch ace get out played by the guy interviewing him 10:51 compared to ace 5:50
Two different eras in time and skill set levels.ace old school this young guy.hall of the mountain king.totally different.but still rock.
If Kiss was heavy, I'm a Planet.
ACE IS FOR KEEPS!
It sounded like Ace was gonna do Highway Star after he tuned
I Can't Bash Kiss man haha
Was that Bassman Stock? that was a fucking killer sound xD
"i do it with a guitar pick"
... sounds like shit
Chris is the making records
damn ace is a strange dude, socially awkward and a bit out of touch with reality, but how could you not be when a huge chunk of your life is spent playing in one of the biggest rock n roll bands of all time
i mean that is two different era's you can't compare these guys... you have to be fair...
I thought d same,
You're just jealous that you do not have that tapping ability. That is the best guitar tapping the world has ever seen
These guys in KISS really need to get over themselves. A little humility goes along way. Chris is such a neat dude and is trying to have a conversation.
ace completely ignores Chris while he is talking
Then how is he replying to him and answering his questions?
5:50 omg lol
Omg I'm literally laughing out loud
Me too lol
11:30 OZONE! fucking Ace !
is this the band that plays that one song during Xmas time. that's how it know them. i listen to too much radio...and youtube...dang. i think i know more panic at the disco then trans-siberia.
Read the KISS & Tell book ;-)
+Gordon Gebert I would, but I heard the author was a real dick. ;]
+LLB999888777 - You can't be more wrong. Bobby McAdams is one of the NICEST GUYS you';d ever meet. ;-)
haha, right on. Met you in Buffalo in the late 90's at a small Kiss convention in a bar. Bought both books, super fun reads "Trouble walkin" haha. cheers man
Gordon Gebert you were a powerful and attractive man.
+TMCP Tv
BEST KISS RELATED BOOK out there! KISS & Tell has THE BEST Ace Frehley stories.
5:50 da fuck?
Lamest tapping ever xD
seriously man ! lol xp
Jimmy snail dont hate cuzvyo career never took off, probably standin in the mirrors askin god what happened to me.
BiggBoi Sam
You are so pathethic, typical fanboy blinded by the stupidity.
He was probably told to just play guitar and talk without a script or anything and due to his shyness he just kind of went along with the conversation which was Caffrey gushing over Frehley.
how many times is Chris going to fix his hair?
Patrick Wagener as many times as the man fucken wants to
