I witnessed the Ace car chase in '82. I was working the night shift at the ONLY gas station on the Bronx River Parkway at that time. Ace was driving the North on the Southbound side of the parkway - he could have killed someone.

I heard Kiss Alive 2 at 13 years old in 1978 and that got me into a lifelong fan of the ORIGINAL, and only group members I'll ever acknowledge as being Kiss, admiration of Ace, Peter, Gene, and Paul. Saw them 4 or5 times with that lineup, have no desire whatsoever to pay and see anyone else calling themselves Kiss. Nor have I bought any album of other lineups. Space Ace is the shit, good sense of humor, good guitarist, great showman. I put Trouble Walking on every new phone etc. I buy one of the first songs. Because like the much more popular and talented gentleman being interviewed here, I too am "Trouble Walking." Thanks for all the great songs and entertainment throughout the years Ace, and to future ones coming.
Every album Ace has done is brilliant. Better than most Kiss albums I'd say.

Killers was a compilation with mostly previously released material from the 70's so yes ace very much played on it, however there were four new songs on the album which Bob Kulick played on
R&R Hall of Fame “Induxey”?I wonder what was going through Ace’s mind after hearing that, but then again, his laugh at the end said it all...Ace is a good sport and a honest guy.

I still don't get why people keep saying that Ace is a "has been", or a talentless douchebag or whatever. Whether you like it or not, Ace Frehley did a lot for the rock n roll world, and that's a fucking fact. And about the "talentless" stuff that I keep hearing everywhere I go that is Ace's related, there's an other fact : you can master all the techniques, the licks, knowing your fretboard as much as you know your dick, if you don't put any heart, soul, and fucking groove, playing your instrument is partially useless.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot: no Ace Frehley, no Dimebag Darrell. And that's just an exemple out of a thousand.

+chris prevost Gene is a hell of a lot more talented than anyone gives him credit for - mostly because he has become the rock and roll version of Donald Trump. Ace inspired a generation of guitarists - guitarists who wanted to play bombastic music but had no interest in going "noodly noodly noodly SQUEEEE!" . Unfortunately, that generation is all but dead, gone and / or forgotten.
+Mart Mich Calling him talentless is incredibly ignorant. Has been? not so much. It's sad, really. He plays to a few hundred people a night. If he'd been more serious about his career, he wouldn't be selling off his memorabilia to scrape together enough money to make a record. I love how incredulous the interviewer looks when Ace mentions that he was driving a DeLorean, haha! That was pretty much my reaction as well the first time I read about the infamous car chase. A DeLorean? Really?? Only Ace, lol.
Woah, never heard that Anton was actually green lighted as a KISS member for one day! Even Anton doesn't seem to remember that, haha, he has said that he didn't want the gig because he was in another band at the time and wanted to break with them (Spider) I've also read him say that Paul and Gene never even considered him because he was too close with Ace... Who knows the truth, really!

A Delorean wasn't really a fast car, It was just a unique car. Stainless steel, gull wing doors etc.
Very true. It had a Peugeot / Renault / Volvo engine, that only produced 130 horsepower.
Yeah it was slow and unreliable, hence why it kept having problems in the movie. It was a piece of shit to put it simply. The only reason he "outran" them is because cops aren't stupid and won't persist in a high speed chase when there is a potential for hurting innocent people. The "Chevy Nova" he mentioned would have eaten it alive.

When Ace said that he was outvoted 2-1 in Kiss' decisions once Peter left, it makes you wonder how much Paul and Gene really valued Eric Carr, Bruce Kullick, etc. and their contributions (or attempts of) to the band.
+Exequiel Ortega That was probably before Kullick and Carr joined, when Anton FIg was the session drummer.
Carr and Kulick was never real members of Kiss, just hired hands. They had no input whatsoever in the decision process. So even after Eric came into the band Ace was still outvoted 2-1. Sadly.

I feel like this fills in some of the blanks from the KISStory documentary
Ace running from the cops in a DeLorean, outrunning them, pulling up to a deli, smoke rising from the car, the doors open as the smoke clears you see him step out. I’m not saying what he did was safe and right but just his honesty about it and the humor he puts into it makes him more than just a good guitarist and a funny guy. It shows humility, realism and just a genuine human being. He wasn’t perfect but if he was, it wouldn’t be him. Thank you brother for all of the good music. You will always be The SpaceMan 🚀
I remember David Letterman always got Anton Fig's name wrong. He always called him Anton Zip.

Not shocking that his fact or fiction is multiple parts, this man loves to talk. I'm so salty to this day that I misses an opportunity to cook for and meet him. He played in the town that I worked in (i cooked in a restuarant in a casino/hotel) and stayed at the hotel. The night before the show he came in for dinner and it was my one day off for the weeek, my chef and I are both huge KISS fans and proud members of the KISS Army. Chef had a panic attack knowing he was cooking for Ace and didn't think of calling me. Ace was nice enough to meet any of the staff who wanted to meet him and he gave backstage passes and tickets to anyone who wanted to go to the show. I was so depressed as a KISS fan and guitarist that I missed the opportunity to meet one of my biggest heroes and living gods.
In the early '80s when the Guitar became an Olympic Event thanks mostly in part to Eddie Van Halen, all the Rock Bands had to have virtuoso's. Ace's style was out moded and Vinnie Vincent was a ridiculously talented modern Guitarist. Vinnie made contribution's to "Creatures of The Night" while simultaneously Ace needed out. Creatures, Destroyer,HTH & Dynasty are my favorite and as difficult as they said Vinnie was to be around, he was the difference on Creatures.

Great interview. Ace is telling stories I've never heard before. Anton Fig was KISS' drummer for one day. That must have been so messed up to tell Anton he had the gig only to turn around and tell him Gene and Paul had changed their mind(s). Good to know Ace is still making some of the KISS cash off his makeup design. Too bad Peter wasn't smart enough to do the same. Wonder when the Spaceman lease will be up?

Yeah, I know Anton's history with Ace and KISS. He also played on Ace's 1978 solo album , Dynasty, Live + 1, Trouble Walking and Anomaly. I was just surprised to hear he was actually KISS' drummer for a single day. That's a story Ace left out of No Regrets and I've never heard him speak of it before. I think it's cool Ace is telling stories no one has ever heard before publicly. I hope he continues to do so.

about Peter not being "smart enough" not to lease his make-up versus keeping and leasing it.
He had to decide whether Kiss, with Eric and Tommy in his and Ace's make-up, would be able to fill arenas. Peter could either sell it outright for a large lump sum, or lease it hoping that Kiss would have continued success. Peter chose to sell, Ace chose to lease.
It'd be interesting to know what each of them has reaped, to date, from their respective decisions.
Also, I'll bet that Ace's decision to lease, rather than sell, had more to do with pride (in the good way) than with money.

I played opening for some pretty well known punk bands, who'd been around for a while, by my time. Word was, in their lean years, at least, KISS were surprisingly down to earth. It always disappointed me when one of my heroes turned out to be a prima donna. I always heard these guys were just small town guys with a gimmick, who made good. They paved the way for soooo many.

I wish you guys would be quiet about the interviewer, Gruhamed, I think he is doing a great job. He asks the question then shuts up and let's the interviewee talk! I've watched a lot of interviews where the interviewer just drones on and on and keeps interrupting the other person. Man Ace has some stories lol. I have read all the books by the members and found Ace's book and Paul's book to be the best. Gene's is just stupid and Peter's is aggravating. In fact after reading Peter's book I came away not liking him very much and at one time he was my favorite member and is why I play drums to this day.
Kiss' first album and The Elder are their best albums
My father bought creatures of the night and went to see them on the tour. He threw the record away after he found out ace wasn't on it and Left midway through the show because Ace wasn't on stage in knoxville that summer.

it makes sense that ace licensing it to them. i mean he doesnt like that tommy wears it but if he refuses to license it anymore he knows gene and paul have good enough lawyers to obtain the rights By claiming that its a part of kiss (and that kiss is gene and paul) so ace figures if hes gonna get screwed over he mights as well make some money off of it.
Bullshit. Laws are laws, copyright is copyright. Kiss would never get the rights if Ace refuses to license it anymore. Kiss couldn't use the makeup in the past without his permission - and that would be the way in the future if Ace says "F*** you". Ace makes money with , simple as that.
Who knows if he still owns it...He admitted in this interview that he's lazy, which could mean he was too lazy to spend the time reading the terms of his buyout. Gene has stated that they own it, and Ace THINKS it's still his, but if it makes him happy to think he still owns it, it's not a big deal. It's like with the "KISS My Ass" tribute album--they changed Ace's makeup, and altered the photos of tattoos of his face (actually, they missed one), just to avoid any arguments.
