It depends on which rules aply for time travel. Is it like with Terminator, or when you changed those things, the timeline rejects you and restore the original one. Or could be one similiar to to Wonder land. Even if you try to change things, they will happen anyway. Or what about like first time with Flash. If you change one catastrophy, another one will happen that could be even worse.
Or what if we already live in altered timeline and even though bad things happened, this timeline leads toward future that will be better than the original one.
And probably last part, if the time travel works, we don't know if presence future and past are happening at the same time or not. And also would the time and space break if we changed it?
A lot of people say Mabel is one of the worst characters in Gravity Falls because she's selfish. I mean, she is a bit selfish because she's 12, but people often forget that it's moments like the ending of this episode that proves that she's not. She loves her brother, and Dipper is hardly a perfect guy either. They both have their flaws, but in the end they're best friends who'd do anything for each other. In a way, that kind of bond is more meaningful than any romantic one.
I think it's because of the comparison between the twin's actions, dipper seems to sacrifice his happiness for others far more than mabel does, and at times it's cringy and looks exploitative.
Yeah also I’m The Tales from the Shack comics. they make a reference of how Mabel has to work on herself quite literally. I think episode to episode it doesn’t look like Mabel is selfish on purpose but seeing it as an overall sorry Mabel ask far more sacrifices and favors from dipper. So it makes it look selfish or too self centered.

I don't see how people don't get that Mabel got the pig without having to do any kind of time travel. Like he f***** up and hit Wendy in the eye and she got her pig naturally. Him going back in time is literally taking the pig away from her. Dipper is the one being selfish in this episode.

This episode is one of my favorites of season 1. It’s got such a duality between Mabel and Dipper and selfishness and selflessness. A lot of Gravity Falls episodes are fun and hilarious episodes, but this one is so real to me.
this episode is the one that made me go “okay this show isn’t like other shows i’m hooked!” when i first watched it back as it was originally airing! when i realized they had hidden blendin in the background of the first 3 episodes my mind was blown
Both kids may have wanted their own things (selfishness), but Dipper's was about manipulating and controlling someone else's choices, while Mabel's was getting a pet and kind of saving it from the fate of Pacifica. Dipper definitely shouldn't have gotten his way, and further, his plan didn't actually need Mabel - the roof pipe thing could have been propped up into place by something else.
i always thought it would've been a better and cooler way for dipper to handle his situation would be If he just caught the ball inches from her face that would've solved getting her the bear and gained him cool points
at that time i think the connection with justin roiland was with adventure time, he voiced lemongrab in it, and fish hooks, where roiland and hirsch voiced characters while hirsch also helped developed it. at least those are what i connected the dots with when i first watched the show
They probably just don't care, which is fair tbh. The ciphers were more for people watching the episodes as they came out to be more engaged with the show while waiting for more episodes.
Gravity falls came first and the shows have cameos of each other. Even before this episode in the previous episodes the time traveler was there in the backgrounds picking up the stuff left behind that didn’t belong.
even though she did just get the pig that day, it's still a pet. I feel like if someone got a new puppy you don't just take that from them and think they don't already have an emotional attachment to it, especially a 12 year old girl. I'd rather have someone keep their pet than bet on the chance a 12 year old boy can date a teenager lol.

I always compare Dipper's crush with Wendy to Ferb's crush with Vanessa on how different their approach was. Dipper was always trying his best to impress Wendy or at the very least spend time with her while Ferb was chill about it, the only time I saw him trying to actually impress Vanessa was in the mall episode and when he was driving that space hot rod and he supported her in her other relationships (Halloween special singing Pimpernel for Monty and Vanessa to dance).
It's been a year, but yes, they do contrast nicely! Ferb does try to impress Vanessa, same as Dipper tries with Wendy, but Dipper here was trying to control Wendy's choice which isn't cool at all.
Fun Fact: In the official Journal 3 book for gravity falls there is a plumbus from Rick and Morty. Plus in Rick and Morty in one of the citadel of rick episodes there is a rick with a Dipper and Mable Morty duo.
I can't wait till you guys go into the lore and theories of the show!! You're going to be blown away with the creativity and attention to detail. Oh and I just have to say this little tidbit for the rest of the show, PAY ATTENTION TO THE BACKGROUNDS!!!!!!

One of my favorite episodes! Not fond of the concept of having a pig for a pet, but I warmed up to Waddles. And a sad Mabel means a sad audience. Even I felt my heart breaking a little. “And if you look to your left you’ll see Miserable Mabel; the girl who went bonkers after her dreams were shattered by some heartless jerk. Oh hi Dipper.” OUCH!
Time travel is a tricky and touchy subject....so yeah.... I'm just gonna sidestep that and just be grateful for God for the path shim carved out for me. 😶
SPOILERS There is a soft crossover with gravity falls and Rick and Morty. In the books, in some background characteristics and items. Same in Rick and Morty. There was a set of Morty that looked like dipper and mable
You mean Dipper has to give up something that wasn’t really his in the first place because he had to mess with the timeline to get it on literally the most unlikely possibility. Mabel being sad about something she really cares about being taken from her doesn’t make her the bad guy in this episode. Dipper isn’t allowed to just get whatever he wants at the expense of other people and he knows that which is why he fixed it.

People tend to see Dipper’s problems and sacrifices as more important then any that Mabel makes as if it’s some kind of scoreboard instead of someone caring about their sibling.

Mabel always helps him with his mystery stuff even when she personally isn’t that interested in it because she knows he needs her help.

The show goes 📈 at the end of S1 and that's where the story really kicks in. Finished it and already missing it. Soos is my favourite character.
