  • Hello Fellow Crafters and Creatives!
I have recently acquired some Jane Davenport watercolour paints and This is the very first thing I have made with them.
It is a simple yet effective way to learn about your colours and end up with a piece of art at the end.
Using a card stock that can take a good amount of water, spray the card in the area you want to apply the colour.
It's also useful to spray your palette as, I find, this helps with transferring the paints onto the brush.
With a wet brush, pick up the colour you want to put on the paper first and apply it randomly to the wet area. If you apply to the dry area there will be very little movement and a more defined edge. If that is a look you want, then it is 100% ok to do that. Art is about what you want to create.
After rinsing the brush, pick up the next colour and apply to the card. You continue with this process until you have all your desired colours on the card.
The card then needs to dry. If you dry it with a heat gun, be aware that this can force some of the pigment into the card and make the colours slightly less vibrant. It can also lead to more movement of the colours on the page, which may lead to areas of mixing that you are not too keen on. The alternative is to allow the card to dry naturally. (I am just way too impatient to do this!)
Once the colours are dry, use a pen (whatever colour or style you choose, but be aware a watercolour pen will make the colour you have already applied react) to outline the areas where the colours meet. You can choose to be as accurate or free as you like in this. If you want to have a more flowing image, cover larger outlines and not the tiny, fine ones. The choice is yours.
With this method you can create all sorts of patterns and play around with how colours respond to each other, either side by side or when they mix. It is a great way to get to know new colours and brands.
