I’ve been playing the piano for nearly more than 14 years.
I cannot explain how much I have benefitted from this. I started when I was 12 years old. Playing the piano has helped me get through tough times. My little dog Duke and the piano helped me manage at times when I was deppressed. You can’t put into words the sense of achieve one can get by learning to simply play a song. It’s a very nice thing. No need of becoming a great composer or a master pianist. But learn to play songs that you like . It feels so good and very relaxing. It’s also a good way to spend your time rather than idling carried away by the stupid advertising in this world.
For children I recommend teaching them from their early childhood, don’t expect them to play pieces or songs at that age. Just being able to play a small melody helps improve their brain functioning which will have lifelong positive effects.

I don´t think it makes you a genius. It may help you with focusing on a task. But a genius - for me - is someone who very easily understands a lot of different topics, no matter how far apart they may seem (like microbiology, economics, statistics, thermodynamics etc.) and I don´t think playing an instrument can help with that. But playing an instrument may help you with clearing your mind from unnecessary stuff and "being in the moment", which is a important state to be in if you want to learn something knew too

If a human dwell in music so much, there will be development i think in the brain.
As a song writer myself, activites on the brain are much more complex in daily routine. Rather than doing repetitive routine stuff I'd rather dwell in colors of sound and hyperbolic lyrics, but to arrange daily must have develop something to the brain.
The same goes for mathematicians or people who like solves math problem daily, or observant of social problem who observes ,analyze, and tries to bring solution to that matter on routine.

I've played guitar since I was like 9. I can play almost any instrument if I apply myself. I compose too and can learn most songs by ear. Easier if I really like the tune. When I compose I'm tuning into some special place. I can't explain how but it's a lot like channeling. You just tune in to the universal station/vibration.

I'm 24 years Old I study and play about 7 different instruments. 4 of them are currently in my posession. I play guitar, Bass, a little bit of Tenor Saxophone even though I'm still learning, Trumpet, Harmonica, and Double Bass. I can honestly say from experience playing an instrument is only helpful with identifying chords and how they relate to music the rest is 90% of either ear or visual training. 5% is probably the exercises that come with it getting your body use to playing the instrument. I've been playing instruments since I was 5 I had ok grades from kindergarten to high school I dropped out of high school in 2014 with a 2.8 GPA as a junior. I didn't get my real GED until I was 23 last year but math was always a kick in the butt until I sat down and learned it. However being a musician requires for you to think but it doesn't mean your smart enough to improve college grades without learning how college works or even high school.

    • @meriemdhouibi

I play the violin as well and I felt exactly the same as you when I first started, I couldn't bring myself to practice and always made up excuses ( Too busy, I have too much school work...) I couldn't overcome the mental block and the fear of not playing as well as I want because I'm such a perfectionist. The violin is a particularly difficult instrument that requires a lot of consistent practice, if any small part of you enjoys playing it, please consider putting off 20 minutes every day in your busy schedule for practice because I can assure you you will look back in a few years and thank yourself for it. I urge you however not to force it, you can try a different instrument but don't quit because you don't have time for it. I recommend you watch twosetviolin videos for inspiration and to follow hilary hahn on Instagram for motivation to practise. You can do this! I believe in you and I hope along the process you get to discover the beauty of this wonderful instrument. If it ever gets too hard, remember why you started. Happy practising!
