@@DavidBloodJohnson It's great hearing from you again, David. I've heard it said that a persons past doesn't have to equal their future ... and it's true! The time you spent eating poorly and in whatever environment you were in doesn't define you ... YOU DO! Let go of the past, forgive yourself if necessary and move positively forward toward the life you most desire by making the best choices possible for yourself. One other thing, I used to tutor college/university students and many older students felt out of place in the classroom. Don't let that stop you because you will be an excellent example that will give hope to others AND you have 40 years left until retirement ago of 67. You have so much life ahead to live and to shine. @Avocado Toast I appreciate the kind words, but I see it as a curse that I need to be rid because along with it i have a learning/intellectual disability, severe ocd, add/adhd, ptsd, intrusive thoughts, etc. I am doing this all on my own, and I'm 2 years past the age of a fully developed brain. My family abandoned me, and pretty much left me to rot. I will always see this as a curse to be rid of. I never even finished high school because I was kicked out. I may be too late for me to go through neurogenesis, and neuroplasticity. I'm pretty much screwed for the rest of my life. I can't eat normal food like everyone else. All of my interests are things that do not even contribute to society, but no matter how much I want to get away from those interests, my brain will not let me.

Jeffery Ford hi, I'm a kid, my dad has an IQ of 160. He's considered a, "Super genius" He often says I could be a genius. That's one of my dreams. My mom tell's me, "Your not a genius. Your dad has a very high IQ, but is not a genius. Genius's have very hard life's and are introverts." I think that their's people who are smarter then you, everybody has an equal. A minor, and a superiority. I have ADHD, so attention span is hard for me, but I've figured out too control it... So, you've really helped me. I'm only 11, so I'm still not very. "Wise" But I'm still trying to imagine ME being a genius, I hope you see this...

Da real Mr crbs, I'm not Jeffery Ford, but thought I'd chime in. When I was growing up, I was in much the same situation. My father was, and is, a genius (on the IQ scale). Although, that does not mean it comes without character flaws, sometimes to a fault.
You're very humble for your age to understand that everyone falls within a spectrum, where there are always people above and below. My advice to you is to focus on learning as much as you can, exploring the world, and fostering your own curiosity. Don't pay too much attention to IQ scores or any other measure of intelligence. What matters the most is if you enjoy life, enjoy company, and have fun.

I am being humble and there will always be someone above me, but I speak 7 languages at 17, grade A student, a great speaker have a high sense of awareness. Yet for all these years I was useless, just looking at a screen and doing nothing. Notes (Disclaimer: English is not my 1st language):
The speecher has IQ in the 99.9 percentile and he believes that:
-IQ can be almost always raised since the external context we grow up in is far from perfect.
    - to raise IQ you need a good foundation:
    - how to listen = arguing comes often from not listening to others. To be a good listener be active (i.e. shut down the internal voices in your head and ask questions). Through listening we can "steal" technical experience of people, so do it. While listening, suspend judgement (often the speaker justify a statement after he has made it, so let him explain to have a better idea of what is being said). Take notes (e.g. while talking with the doctor).
-how to read INTELLIGENTLY= for everything you read consider always the source. Consider the age and the context in which the author is writing (age, historical phase, geography, gender). Ask yourself who published the material. Think about the date of publishing.
-attention span= you want a good attention span because a good working memory it's a prerequisite for high level thougths. To do this: learn to be comfortable both in company and while alone (to do that you can create a good environment). Also, you need to have a very special interest where you reach a state of flow. Then apply this state of flow capacity to other things.
-Diet= know how different foods affect you.
Mental syntax= it is necessary to develop higher level thoughts. You need good grammar skills to think better.
Vocabulary= most people think in words. The more nuanced your vocabulary the better your thoughts.
Music & Math= both help develop mental syntax. Those 2 combined with language skills give you a very solid
    foundation
Environment= you need a place where you can stay at peace with yourself (inside or outside your house). Give yourself time to daydream (the foundation of invention) and a space where you can hear your thoughts (society always wants to tell us what to think, learn to listen to yourself)
Other people= get involved with other people as they know yhings that you don't. People change people.
Great books= read great books . If you read good grammar you learn good grammar.
Music= listen to classical music. Not all music is good for your mind.
    Museums= go to museums.

22 years old here, and you have been right on point in taddressing solitude and daydreaming as the key to an active intellectual life. I've always been a very introspective and introverted person and daydreaming has been a constant in my daily life since I was 9. I never had the chance to develop typical friendships with peers my age, so daydreaming was a way for me to be occupied and it's done it's job in making me feel less alone. I recommend the book Solitude: In Pursuit of a Singular Life in a Crowded World by Michael Harris. It's one of my comfort reads and there is a lovely section in one of the chapters addressing the importance of daydreaming to reinforce a sense of self-identity.

Understand why & understand what business interests you the must. The same with learning understand why you’re doing i, figure out what you want to learn and what is of interest to you. I'm so glad a video like this exists. It's focused on sharing skills and techniques. Teaching people the how and the why of doing something practical. I'm a student who used to consistently perform in the top 1-3% in just about every cognitive skills, aptitude, and school based test for his entire life. I landed myself into medical school at the age of 18, living on my own, away from home. None of the comforts of my hometown - no familiarity, family, structure, community, schedule, church, or support network keeping me in check. I quickly fell apart. Everyone around me was suddenly just as intelligent as I was. I was no longer able to stand out so easily; i had to manage living alone, i didnt have anyone keeping me accountable, i had trouble keeping schedules on my own. No structure, no handholding by family or school, playing way too many video games, exercising too little, sleeping very late, sleeping very little, and eating horribly - if i eat at all. I feel like 1-2 years of this really left me without my former talents. I hope it's not too late. These skills will hopefully see me reacquire the levels of skill and talent i felt i had possessed some 2-3 years ago.

Usually Mensa types are just good puzzles, but all this advise is actually useful. Notice a common theme through all his advice is not jumping to conclusions. He keeps saying Possible, not definitely. Everyone wants easy definite answers and that’s where people go off the rails. Life is about taking new complex things and making them simple. Not about making everything simple. Trying to make everything permanently simple is the same as giving yourself an expiration date because you’re gonna become outdated because everything changes.

    Hi Jeff,
I am an A.I. theorist and I came up with a new understanding of intelligence. Mental coordination. I have a meta-model that says we build models of the world then simulate what can happen. As we learn more we can subconsciously be creative combining what we know in new ways. My insight into this also was from Immanuel Kant. That all we can know is perception. So this is the metamodel. We recognize and then simulate then decide. I love your videos and hope you make more. I made some videos myself if you want to see them. You are a wonderful person. What you said in your video are good tips for how to organize thinking. It follows my model that I want to develop further. I am asking people to help me so I share with people and discuss with them my thoughts. I like solving problems like you. I want to understand how it is possible people can solve problems. That is why I am an A.I. theorist. I need to understand intelligence before I can create it. And I need to make friends to help me with what I cannot do myself. Keep making wonderful videos Jeff.

This is very interesting. From my experience, it seems as if I've increased my IQ over a 4 year span. I don't know if it's because of puberty, but I experienced a huge increase in mental capabilities around 9th grade. The year before, I got bad grades in a class, so I told myself I would get straight A's throughout all of high school. In 9th grade, I suffered daily to attend to my anxiety and lack of focus. Ever since that year, I've been getting better ever since. These tips seem to be true according to what I experienced over the years in high school. If I had anything to add (now that I'm writing this on the spot), then it would be to practice introspection and/or mindfulness meditation. For me, I was lonely in high school, so I spent most of my time alone. The world, as it truly is, really opens up to you once you train your metacognition to look at your thinking and behavior. I've learned to move past my enslaving psychological complexes.

@J People who lack mindfulness, self-awareness, and boundaries are more susceptible to influence from social media. And the influence from social media can vary from being healthy to extremely neurotic, depending on what is going on in the culture at that time & the person's history on the app. Where social media can engender neurosis, it is pathological and can trap people in loops of fantasy-indulgence. Thus, the person using the app should heavily monitor themselves and their social media ecology in order to avoid any neurotic influence & fantasy entrapment going against their individuation. The healthiest parts of social media would be those influences which inspire action in the world, self-development, good relating with others, and the acquisition of resources for the fulfilment of your potential.

I just found your channel and appreciate you covering a topic that is often misrepresented, misinterpreted, or clouded in emotional arguments. Over ten years ago, I achieved a Prometheus score on one of the Hoeflin tests (the one without vocabulary questions). Back then my vocabulary was weak, and my scores, such as SAT, reflected that. I made an effort to read more fiction (including your favorite), and, as you recommend in this video, I sought out authors with a variety of backgrounds, genders, etc. The Hoeflin tests are no longer active--maybe not even available--but my vocabulary has drastically increased alongside my writing ability.
Your mentioning of focus is great point that others tend to ignore. People talk about intelligence as an innate trait, like hair color, that is independent. I think it is more helpful to think of intelligence as a skill, like throwing a ball. Nobody knowledgeable discounts the genetic influence, but throwing a ball well relies on neuromuscular factors, flexibilty, advantageous anatomy. And, of course you can practice and improve!

This is all true and valuable information! Thank you for making this video! i Would like to touch on the importance of getting help... i cant stress that enough.. You mentioned about ADHD etc., people getting the help they need to focus.. I would highly encourage people to pursue any type of mental health they need... Personally, i am Bipolar.... When i finally addressed my mental health issue, my life became increasingly better... Not only my life, but I also started having a positive impact on other peoples lives. My mental abilities started astonishing me over time. In a two year time I had accomplished more than I had in my entire life. Doors started opening to me that i never thought possible.... So yes, please, if you need some type of help, get it. Don't be ashamed. Also, the part of environment... That is such a huge factor... Also, very key element you spoke on, Your environment. Your environment and the people you have around you are a key player, not only in your intelligent quotient, but in your ability to exceed in life. Create a positive and peaceful environment for yourself..... and stop being lazy. Put in the work, such as increasing your vocabulary. Thank you so much for this video and i truly hope this video reaches every person on this planet. I also hope with the worlds available technology, more and more people like yourself start to emerge and are able to play a larger part in our society... Thank you! The high IQ world is a true cross section of humanity with its truly humble participants as well as its sometimes pain in the derriere egomaniacs who believe their every syllable is a gift from on high. While I certainly prefer the one group over the other ... I have definitely found that I can learn from both and that sometimes the ego driven members help to keep things alive and moving forward. We all have our place ... no matter how annoying some folks can sometimes be. @@jefferyford5309 Thank you so much for replying. This means a lot to me since I have desire to be intelligent and I want to talk with great intellects. I will treat others how I want to be treated like you said. I have questions I want to ask you. I treat people with respect and I love exploring the ideas or truth with people and I often come across people who are not ready to discuss. (My definition of people who are ready to discuss = people who are able to see other people's perspectives and people who have ability to admit that they were wrong). What do you do when you face situations like this and why? Or should I just understand that this is the way they discuss and accept them? Do you sometimes try to change their thoughts? I would love to hear your insight on this and I would appreciate a lot.

@@thegreatestcomesfromthewor6929 My father once said to me, "Think about how hard it is to change yourself ... then realize that it is exponentially harder to change anybody else." My dad was right about that. I rarely care to change anybody's viewpoint because it just doesn't really matter to me in most cases. Plus, so many people are absolutely immersed in their own cognitive dissonance that it makes it a fools errand to try to speak rationally with them. Plus, most people think and make decisions based more on emotions than they do based on critical thinking so then you're practically reduced to speaking to them like you would speak to a child which demeans us both. BTW, I made a video about cognitive dissonance if you care to view it. One more thing ... care more about what YOU think than what other people think. Learn to (and work to deserve to) have your viewpoint matter more to you than other peoples affirmation of your views -- that is what individuality and freedom is all about.

That was really cool. I thought I was going to hear about how to learn to do things that apply to an IQ test, but most of this I think was for real world intelligence.
One thing I would add in evaluating credibility is that learning to gauge motivation is critical. How much money is involved? How much peer pressure? How much ego? These are the primary three motivators in the world today. Ego is the biggest problem, because that's the one in your head.

Good and sound advice all around, Jeffery. A few thoughts from someone much closer to the opposite end of the IQ spectrum from you:
    * Regarding “consider the source,” something I think is important as a prerequisite to that is having a good foundation of self-knowledge. Without knowing one’s _own_ biases and other cognitive tendencies, considering (or speculating about) those of others has a higher potential for misuse (e.g., by getting deflected/rejected by one’s own unrecognized biases, or further reinforcing them).
    * I suspect that in many cases, people who use poor grammar, punctuation, and syntax don’t know it, and so won’t seek out resources to improve it no matter how abundant and easily accessed the resources are. But what you said later in the video, about the potentially positive influence of reading good writing by those you’d want to emulate, could be useful in at least some of these cases.
    * Where you said “daydreams are _not_ a waste of time,” I would say, daydreams not _necessarily_ a waste of time. It depends on the context (when, where, why, how long). I’m sure many of us are all too familiar with using daydreaming as a way of avoiding things, for instance.

This video you have made was what I needed to guide myself, I'm 18 now and all throughout highschool I chased these principles one by one unconsciously. It all began with writing on my own to cope with my chaotic world, then it spread into a curiosity of information and I found myself reading thinking fast and slow by Daniel Khanman. I was fascinated by what I didn't know now, so I moved on to different math classes and pushed myself in them to see what they "really did for me"(before I thought it was JUST for being able to do calculations which a calculator could do easily, I was ignorant). I noticably became more resilient when it came to problem solving. When I coupled all of this together, during my sophomore year in highschool all the way up to graduation, with meditation. I began to feel a the steady lapping of waves of potentially useful thoughts against the shores of my mind which became resources for helping with deciding the life that I'd want layed before me. Everything felt within my grasp, but then I graduated from school. I stopped practicing math, I stopped sitting and thinking in silence as much, I leaned more heavily into hanging out with friends and girlfriends. I felt slow, my room became messy, and my self esteem sunk. You provided the video that made me realize the importance of these forms of thinking I had come across so naturally. This will certainly change my life for the better, thank you for keeping it real.

Intelligence is the ability to make new meaningful connections in proper timing. And our brain react to the fullest when our interests are related to. So, the way to increase intelligence is some sets of thinking combinations of 'new' and 'interest'. Find and learn or create new interesting things. Any brain activities that are associated with this will help you increase your own creative abilities, i.e. intelligence.

Great video! At a recent IQ test I scored 150 and I'm preparing soon to take the original supervised Mensa test and let's see. I'm playing so called 'brain games' at neuronation site, which I think are really great and helpful. I'm trying to limit my diet to the 5 following things: lean meat (I really like pork, as I know their anatomy is close to the humans and thus containing many good for humans nutrients), fish and seafood, leafy greens (lettuce, spinach, kale), different nuts (especially walnuts) and different berries. All of that as organic, as my budget allows me. I've just learned to juggle with 3 tennis balls counter clockwise and I'm planning to start learning soon to do it clockwise. And few other brain developing activities.
From all the mentioned things for brain development in the video, I would argue a bit about the grammar. For what it's actually good - for developing rigor? Maybe... In my view, too much concern about the grammar can be more of unnecessary obsession, than rigor developing factor. I'm always repeating to my friends, that the function of the language (spoken or written) is to transfer information. If the information is successfully transferred - the function is executed. Anything further is unnecessary formality. I'm trying as much as possible to avoid formalities. I think, that they are harmful for the thinking and hold back the intellectual development. My advice in this case is - rather let your imagination race wildly, than worry about rules and formalities.

I recommend consuming meat from ruminant animals, such as those in the Bovidae and Cervidae families (beef, deer, sheep, etc.), over pork specifically because ruminants have a more efficient digestive system for processing a plant-based diet compared to monogastric animals like humans and pigs. Potential benefits of ruminant meat include higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids (especially if grass-fed), a better micronutrient profile, plus a richer flavor, and a more appealing texture.

This is all great advice. And as someone who has improved IQ, it takes practice. So take notes and make a list if you have to. Practice. Make it visible. Perform these tasks every day. Just one more thing to stay focused, expand your vocabulary, and keep things interesting. If there is anything that is difficult to understand, look it up. Go to the source. There is no excuse not to, now that we have internet. And practice using the concepts in sentences to make them yours.
It takes time to master the letters and symbols that pass for knowledge. So take the time to install and use them. Do continue to make progress...

Hey, this was a really interesting listen! My views on self-actualization reflect pretty closely to yours, as far as I can tell. This stuff should come from a place of self-love and open-mindedness to the sea of ideas around you. We're all constantly learning, but I worry that as we get older, people become more rigid in their beliefs and opinions and that stunts a lot of personal and societal development. So it's refreshing to hear someone like you have the spirit of a young adult like me.
One thing caught me towards the end though - your view on a lot of music not being very good for the mind? I'm hardly an artist (I'm a compsci student), but I've been brought up classically trained on piano from when I was young as eight, and since then I've learned to appreciate a lot of pre-19th century music. As I've gotten older however, I've started to have a really strong palette for a wider variety of more experimental modern music that reflects a lot of the social/political issues that different groups of people experience. I'm known to have a 'weird' taste in music but my friends like to come to me as a critic on everything because they know I'm passionate about it. Whilst I enjoyed listening to you, I found that comment a bit shocking to hear and felt that it was a bit reductive on artists that are pushing boundaries in the modern landscape. It doesn't have to be for you of course(!), but even modern pop music that seems vapid on the surface always has some kind of intelligent subtext that speaks for its own popularity. Art that can tap into the hearts of millions of people at once is powerful, and it takes a special kind of genius to achieve this. That's why I being able to digest different kinds of music is so important to me, and was wondering what you really meant when you said that?

I believe that when it comes to music, you should listen to music that challenges your concept of music. If you listen to mostly pop, give jazz and classical a chance. If you listen to mainly classical, give hip-hop and spoken-word a chance. If you listen to a lot of music, avant-garde metal, danger music, neo-tribal and other more niche genres would be the way to go. Expand your audio library.
I mainly think visually, so I like to do the same with visuals. Look at pictures of (or better go to) places you've never been, avant-garde fashion, traditional fashion, etc.
This goes for all of your senses really.
In my experience, you're going to definitely see a huge change in the quality of your dreams, the things you can imagine, and more.
