Hi Marty, I really like the song Say It Ain't So by Weezer, and I can't find a good guitar lesson for it. You're easily the best teacher on TH-cam, and I think that it would be a great song for you to make a video on.
Thank you so much for the guitar lessons. I have seen a lot of lessons online and I think yours are the best. How you slow it down cuz not everybody do it as fast as the other people
Marty! Just want to send a small gift and thank you for posting everything you post. I’m a 51 year old guy who has always wanted to play guitar. At 51 I figured it’s too late to start now. I don’t have any musical background other than a serious love for music. My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in September and it has been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. One thing I learned going through this is that it’s never to late for anything because there’s no guarantee when it’s over. Buying a guitar has been a life saver for me! It was also almost a life ender because I also went all in and bought a Taylor to start then two days later a Martin and then a week later a Stratocaster and telecaster lol. Wife still wants to kill me. I had to Add in a Nice electric amp and acoustic amp. Out of everything I only play the Taylor. It sounds So nice and plays much easier. When I’m not with my wife I’m in my new studio (spare bedroom lol )Anyway I’ve watched so many videos for beginners and 90% of them are not beginner songs, horribly demonstrated or click bate to join their online instructions page. I can honestly say there’s nobody who makes Beginner songs really beginner songs like you. The first thing I wanted to learn was knocking On heaven door. Thanks to Marty music I’m playing the tune after a few months of playing. Guitar playing has saved me. It gives me a place to let go Of my emotions. Even if I cant play one thing I memorized is the entire Pentatonix scale up the neck. Granted I don’t know how to bust out a solo over the scale but I still sit and play different notes sliding Up and down the scale based just on emotion. To a person listening I’m sure it’s garbage but to me it all my emotion coming out in notes from high to low fast to slow. Alright I don’t want to continue with my story because I could go on forever. I want to end by saying thank you for thinking of beginners and dumbing it down for those (me) who don’t understand music theory and can only play the chords of A,E, G,D,C, and the A minor. That’s about as far as I’ve gotten, but prior to finding you I had no idea how to put them together with strumming. Last thing. I absolutely love the way you sing the chords to the beat of the tune. That is game changing for me. Great teacher. Man if you are anywhere within. 4 hour drive of Upstate NY I would love to take lessons. You’re very humble and thanks for sharing your gift. At 51 and finally playing the last thing I want to say is I think every child should be required to Play an instrument in school. It’s a powerful tool. Merry Christmas!
Powerful Brother. I can and will pray for you. I stumbled upon this cover looking for the chords to this tune. 63 and restarting lessons after a 52 year break. Fortunate to have Guitar Center 3 miles down the road and just started drum lessons. Received an accoutic Guitar for the holidays, so I am attempting lessons from Marty. I was put away for 30 days years ago and this particular tune literally carried me when my feet wouldn't move forward. I was 33 at the time. Lord, please hear my prayers.
This was my dad's favorite song to play when I was a little boy, I remember being in my room jumping on the bed singing along with him. Once he passed it was the song played, I couldn't listen to it for years. Now I'm excited to surprise my mother with a little of the past we both love and miss. Thank you Marty!
Hey Marty I'm an 11 year old that was inspired by you and you helped me learn so many new song so thank you. I know this will get lost in the sea of comments bit I guess I'll try:)
I was 11 when I started. You have much more available than I did then. Take it and run. You will be much more successful than I was. Still struggling at 62. Keep going. Don't let anyone or anything get in your way!
Thanks Marty, i just got married 4 days ago and this was the final song the DJ played at the end of the night. It’s been stuck in my head ever since. Now it’s time to learn it!
I’ve learned and retained more from you on TH-cam than an instructor in person! You’re very warm and inviting. Just an awesome personality. An open and genuine willingness to teach. Thank God for technology. Thank you so much Marty!! Love this song BTW❤❤❤
Hey Marty, Jaron here! I would greatly appreciate your help learning these fun songs. 1. Clutch - Cyborg Bette 2. Bob Dylan - House Carpenter 3. The Cars - You Might Think 4. Rev Horton Heat - Baby, I’m Drunk 5. Sublime - What happened? 6. The Donnas - Who Invited You 7. Franz Ferdinand - Katherine Kiss Me 8. Jethro Tull - Mother Goose (How can you not love this song?) 9. Jim Croce - I got a name 10. Paul Simon - Gumboots / Paranoia Blues Looking forward to seeing you teach a few of these songs. Much Appreciated!
Thank you so much! I was having so much trouble with that strumming pattern. I'd watched a couple of videos and it wasn't explained or demonstrated nearly as clearly as you did. A couple of tries today and now I've got it! Love your videos - they're so helpful.
Marty. I learned so much from you. Ive been playing 5 years now...anybody starting out. Stick with it. It gets easiet. But you have to put the effort in...
You capo trickster! I love playing C major chords with that capo and you went ahead and took it off and made me play D major chords! Trickster! Great lesson.
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside And I take a deep breath and I get real high, and I Scream from the top of my lungs Where's our Brand New Cadillac lesson?
Neighbor said If I learned a song he liked he would give me 20 bucks!!! He showed me this song and I quickly rushed into my house to learn this song. He loved it and said it was amazing that I learnt the song in just 5 minutes. Thanks Marty, I'm 20 Dollars richer now thanks to you!!!
Whoa Marty slow down bud... I'm tryng to get my Acoustic Guitar playing going which will then go on to Electric Guitar... But i need to wait an old hand/wrist injury flared back up after falling... So until that has time to heal, I'll have to continue to watch your excellent videos... I must say you are by far the most prolific uploader on TH-cam at an average of 2 Video Uploads on TH-cam per day over a 1 week period... I don't know where you get the time & energy but keep it up as it's much appreciated... I'm watching your videos & taking mental notes in the hope that'll hopefully this will equate to helping me with muscle memory, when I do start to play the acoustic... I played bass guitar all my adult life & want to go back learning what I wanted to play when I was younger, but back in the early 80's there was a huge demand for good bass players & I ended up falling in love with the bass guitar, which was a surprise to me, & making that (along with drums) my main instrument... I'll get round to watching this one at somepoint & A Big Shout Out To Marty from Scotland... Slaínte....
Your videos are awesome. Been using them the last 2 months since I started. Less than 2 hours of practice I basically have it down except the last progression back to G is slow. Thanks!
You are the fuckin man! You have literally had a lesson for every song I’ve wanted to learn so far.. just started playing a couple weeks ago..think I’m going to subscribe to your main site 👌🏼
I plan on watching this video when I get home from work. I just had to pop in and say something about that thumbnail lol. Pure awesomeness! You always have the best thumbnails but you've outdone yourself with this one.
The bm is killing me, my fingers aren’t long enough hahaha You have helped me greatly over the years. How about Dave Hause- “Jane” Will there be a part2 of this lesson with the electric guitar part?
Seeing the pic of Marty with the hat and dreads brings me back to when I saw the music video for the song when it came out in the early 90s. Hilarious.
Hi Marty! I read the article about you in the German edition of the Taylorzeitung, very interesting! I think you're a great guitar teacher and continue to teach on TH-cam! Wish you a happy and merry Christmas! Walter
Hey man, this has been helpful so far. I'm taking my proper lessons from somewhere else, but this one was really good at priming me for my first strumming riff. Thanks!
I loved this. been jaming to this song since hs. I have finally learned three chords thanks to you. I was wondering if one of your strums is open, No left hand chords? not sure what that is called if there is a name for it. Thank you.
