Another amazing build by dad! We are so proud of him, dad recently past his journeyman Smith performance test, now he will be testing at BLADESHOW this June to find out if he is worthy of the JS stamp (he totally is imo.) -Josh
Totally blown away at the attention to detail, skill and artistry involved in the making of the blade. Being such a beautiful and intricate creation, I was left wishing we had a bit more than the 60 seconds given to admire the finished piece, especially after the journey of the build. The final result was truly stunning!
This has got to be literally the most beautiful knife I have ever seen. I swear it's the handle and guard that really makes it stand a head above the rest. I can't wait to see what he does next.
Congratulations Royer Dad! That turned out beautifully. Have very much enjoyed seeing your progress from beginner to master craftsman over the last few years. I recently finished making my most detailed bowie knife to date and this completely blows it out of the water. The level of intricacy is fantastic mate.
My jaw dropped when he said "My entire 3-year career". Your craftsmanship is literally one of the highest level, absolute perfection, and the attention to detail is unmatched. Your knives are a work of art and a marvel. To learn that you've got to making some of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen in just 3 years shows the scale of your talent.
Really nice handle and guard setup. Haven’t seen many people lately making finger loops for their knives. Great mosaic damascus as well, really bold and pronounced.

I really really like the way he talks and share. Very smooth and relaxing.
You have came a long way in such a short period of time. I wish everyone understood how much time and skill actually goes into making something like this. Came out beautiful👏👏
I REALLY Love watching you work. It's different than watching Kyle but the design and execution are flawless. Absolutely love your videos. Can't wait wait to see your next project. Great job. Absolutely STUNNING!!!
Well, that was Awesome!! Thank you so much for letting us in to watch one of the greatest knife builds I’ve personally ever seen. The thought alone that went into this design is just stunning. The precision with the way you executed this was such that I could barely tell if that was you or Kyle! Thank you again. You truly inspire us all!!💎
The mythical ability of a blacksmith isn't just the ability to create a piece of art. It is the ability to recreate this piece of art down to a tee. And yet... it stays mythical for it always being a one of a kind knife of which none other exists quite like this. Even if built the same way, the pattern is always a new sight to behold. Love it so much, you have no idea how much I'd love owning one of those just to have it on display.
You would never get tired of holding and turning this in your hands, and marvelling at the skill and craftsmanship that it took to make this absolutely beautiful knife.
For me as an hunter, this is by far the most beautiful and also bestcombined piece of art. Everything comes together so lovely. Like with a high quality shotgun.
That's one of the most amazing patterns I've ever seen!!! Only by you and Kyle have I seen such a clean uniform pattern & weld of the steel itself!!! You're both blessed with an amazing gift in your talents!!! These are timeless pieces of art!!! Thank you for allowing us to watch the process!!!
For medical instruments made from Carpenter Custom 630, 17-4 Ph 900 we would flood our heat treat furnace with nitrogen. Tank of gas with a regulator and a piece of copper or SS tube into the chimney. The formal way to do this was a vacuum HT oven, but these things are expensive. We would get the parts out with no scale (brownish/blackish) and if there were sharpened edges, they remained sharp. Love your work, it is fantastic!
Machinist and knifemaker here. You mill and do any rough shaping BEFORE you harden. Soft steel is much easier to shape with a mill or lathe than hardened steel. Props on the welding of all the seams to keep air out. Very good principle when forge welding. Keep up the good work!
I can't even begin to express how much I love this... And Kyle holding the umbrella for Dad made me think of Proberbs22:6 Proverbs 22:6: "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Y'all are Awesome!!!
Just when you think @KyleRoyer makes just the most beautiful knives...Dad pulls this beast out of nowhere. Well done Dad...that is one sweet looking knife
One of the coolest ideas for a knife i have evr seen in my 51 years i love how you have incorporated the ventalated barrel at the top of the blade down to the finish on the handle just like the stock on a beautiful shotgun . The piece is stunning and every aspect of that knife is pure perfection , i dont know how you parted with it as a piece of you must of left with it to the customer! i love this channel and enjoying every second of your videos, you guys are masters of your art but even that doesnt sound like praise enough your work commands . I am totally blown away by the work done by you both!
Hey thanks PLE. Funny story about the vented rib. I originally wasn’t going to do it because of the extensive research and execution, then Kyle said are you going to put vented rids on the spine. And of course the answer to my master was yes Kyle. Kyle is very hard to keep up with. He stretches me frequently. Good times my friend Keep Forging On Dad
That handle is absolutely STUNNING...One of the best handles I have ever seen in the thousands and thousands of blade videos I have watched. Excellent craftsmanship and execution and unique and innovative. Love how Dad took inspiration from the shotgun and imagined it into a handle. AMAZING
I think Kyle makes amazing knives!!!! He is by far the best knife maker I've seen!!!! This shotgun knife however, is magnificent!!!! It is simply beautiful!!!!
Wow!! You are an amazingly talented family! And i love that its all thanks to your mom giving you the idea to make a knife for a school project, such poetry in a beautiful family story.
Wow. Most beautiful pattern welded knife build I have seen. Left the others in the dust, and I've seen gobs of other great knife builds. This one is fit for royalty.
I don't watch a whole lot of knifemaking videos, but from those i have watched it seems to me that you do very careful, precise clean work and the results speak for themselves. Gorgeous knife! Thank you for sharing this with the world.
What a beautiful knife, you can tell that the time it took you to make this, by looking at the attention to detail and quality of the finish and forging. The talent in this family... it's incredible and everyone who owns a Royer knife, holds a work of art in their possession. What i also love here is the reversed dynamic of a wonderful dad following in his son's footsteps, instead of son following dad's footsteps (nothing wrong with that tho!). And looking beyond that, it's pretty clear to me that this is a loving and tight family who are proud of each other and stand together as one. Congrats to your dad for passing his journeyman test, and i am certain he is well on his way to earn that MS badge too.
I'm going out on a limb here but it has to be said, best looking knife I have seen on this channel! Love how the knife's back is straight and not curved.

Yeah, Pop’s does some good work here, it was really fun to watch him build! Really amazing stuff!
Bob Ross of knife making. Could listen to him all day.
Funny before reading the comments I was going to ask when dad was gonna go for his JS. Totally agree he has reached JS quality.
je trouve le motif du damas magnifique autant original, et comme d'habitude, le soin apporté aux détails est juste stupéfiant.
Like son, like father? Gorgeous work.
Wow, what a result! Bet it was hard saying good bye to a knife you’ve worked so hard on for so long. Absolutely stunning.
I agree it's like giving away yur. Talent at its best hard to do, hope he got paid very well.
