Hey, everyone! We're excited to be back with this amazing interview with Rondo. This is one of our favorite interviews we've done and we're excited to share the full thing tomorrow morning. Subscribe if you haven't and we'll see you then.
Rondo was really surprised at the end there!
...but was he headstrong enough?
I see what u did at the end 😂😂😂
I’m def looking forward to that. Rondo was underrated in my opinion. That’s the kinda player you want on your team. He’s going to contribute no matter what his role is and he always had a high iQ 💪🏽
U gone talk about James harden or naw??
love the show, love rondo. will def listen. thanks again
Rondo and Lebron in 2020 was picking teams apart mentally. What a time to watch that team!
Really was amazing to watch them and that chemistry was beautiful
I knew when them 2 got together that they were gona put on a masterclass of breaking defenses down. Easily the 2 highest IQs in the league.
Dwight as well. He was a big reason they beat Denver, dude was playing jokic really well. That 2020 team was amazing. Great chemistry and the perfect combination of high IQ and experienced players. I wish they had stayed together.
That Heat team wasn’t even fully healthy Loll Bam missed games, Dragic missed games… the guys that got Heat there besides Jimmy were injured
@@deadprez5913 are we forgetting that the whole squad was healthy in game 1 and was down 30+ points at one point.
Regular people will never understand how great Rondo n LeBron are
LeBron is great but only a delusional chap can claim LeBron is the GOAT.
PS: That's what Jason Terry said after the 2011 Finals.
@@HoopsTalk123what’s wrong with you?
We’ve been hearing about how great Lebron is for the past 20 years.
@@HoopsTalk123🤣 🤣 🤣 12 years ago huh
@@HoopsTalk123you’re “regular people” tho…. 🌚
Rondo was huge in that 2020 championship run
3rd best player on the team he was legit
Hell yea he was 😭. I’m a bron fan & watching rondo just facilitate & hit 3s as well as make great passes. He was on one for sure 😭
Also in the 08 championship run to beat the lakers. Dude was dishing out 15 assist
Easily 3rd best laker on that floor. He missed the entire 1st round against Portland yet STILL lead the lakers in assists. His playmaking was top tier that bubble run (as it always is)
Also the fact that Miami was without 2 of their 3 top players contributed a lot too.
yall got jokes with that ending being a cliffhanger 😂
lmao the rest of that part of the convo is hilarious
@@JJRedick WHEN DOES IT DROP! loool i started cackling and had to rewind it.
Yeah that some bullshit 😆
They served it up perfectly lmao 😂
@@JJRedick I’m already knowing thanks for the gems JJ 😂😂
More time passes the more appreciate i have for Rondo. Helped LA get the title in 2020. He still could play and was a player coach. Having two player coaches was insane.
Bron knew that. Just sucks we let him go instead of paying him. Got him back a year later but he didnt have the same burst anymore.
He’s a Celtic and he will always be the Enemy.
@@JohnDoe-xm8wihe was a key part of one of your last title what are you talking about
Yeah after he had already won a title lol
Had to cop a lakers ‘do jersey
@@JohnDoe-xm8wiyou’re dumb
The Lakers literally had two of the best basketball brains on the same team in Bron and Rondo!!
Right! Yet people still try to discredit their championship
@@rickytr3yI wouldn’t discredit it but there was no reason for them to let the heat win 2 games
@@trytv7716 tf are you saying they almost won in Game 5 vs Heat, Danny Green bricks that game winning shot
@@user-zp5un1pl2m I don’t care about Danny green sorry behind he always bricking and it should of never came down to that. What they did in game 6 should of been happening every game
@@trytv7716 the heat are a great team though they made the finals without the bubble as well lol. You could argue they were even better then because they had Dragic, Herro was younger but was also at least available also had Iggy and Jae Crowder who were great wing defenders.
This is exactly what I love about these NBA-player podcasts -- NBA guys are really smart.
You don't say...
It’s the one year in college lol I’m jokin
These two are especially smart. But not all players share this level of IQ tbh
Ofc, but generally speaking there’s more intelligence required to succeed in the league than given credit for.
*THIS* NBA player is smart.
To hear Rondo not just strategize on not just beating the opposing team but to beat the coach is just another level of IQ in which shows how well his preparation is and I truly love Rondo and who I tried to learn from based on facilitating.
Rondo was a big part in the Lakers winning the 2020 title. If you watch after the initial group hug, Rondo is the first player Lebron seeks out and hugs individually. That said volumes about his importance.
All players that played with or against Rondo got the highest respect for dude. That's all I ever needed to know 💯
Like Chris Paul!
Ray Allen would agree
I wonder what his kids would say
@@chillspot331yeah rondo has blind angry side thats why he has had beef with Rick Carlisle, ray Allen, & Chris Paul
Ask his mavericks teammates what they think….
Before Russ came into the game, Rondo was my favorite PG. Definitely one of the wisest to play the game. I always saw Rondo & Bron high IQ on the court, but I didn’t know about the “beating the coach” plan. Like that’s another level right there. Im legit mind blown right now.
damn thats some jump.
From rondo to westbrook thats like from einstein to alzheimer patient
@@davit368 LMAO i thought the same. like what is he talking about? Russ and Rondo on a same basketball convo. smh
@@benjaminndi6232I can see it. Rondo represents how players should THINK the game. Westbrook represents how players should PLAY the game.
Went from liking a 200 IQ pg to a -200 IQ pg☠️
Russ?!
Reason i fell in love with basketball glad yall brought him on
lol.
Same here I can't lie him on that 08 Celtics team and going forward made me love basketball
@@scandelezyou clearly didn’t watch those Celtics teams if that seems funny
Shoutout Louisville,Ky that’s where I’m from
My favorite player, a true basketball genius, and so much fun to watch on the court every single night. Can't wait to hear the full podcast.
Lmao when JJ brought up cp3😭
Rondo the Mathematician
mathmagician
Algebruh
He’s real calculated out there. For sho
Rondo was leading my bulls the a 2-0 series lead. He was unbelievable and after he got injured the bulls got swept. The eight seeded bulls were position to sweep the 1st seeded celtics until rondo's injury. His basketball IQ in the playoffs is genius.
I am a Celtic fan and can say with 100% certainy, if Rondo didnt get hurt the Celtics would have lost in 5 or 6
@@MrShishi Idk IT was playing like a man possessed for his sister rip to that young lady what a time to watch ball
One of my favorite Celtics to watch ever... he was such an amazing playmaker, could fake you out of your shoes with that behind the back move... he was awesome. Belongs in the Hall of Fame!!
@4:25 bro its not hard to believe but to hear rondo say it is still crazy impressive. Im thinking Bron and rondo plan would be to try expose the players but their goal was the coach of the team the whole time 😂
JJ knows we craving some content and he cuts it off the best part!😂
Exactly why he's my favorite PG of all time. Man's mind is crazy
Would love to see a Jeff Hornacek interview. He had a similar role as jj and also had to guard slashers in the illegal man defense era
I would love for him to confirm he feared jordan because stockton Malone and GP have already denied these claims 😂
@@IONTENNISTHATall narrative
Hornacek could use handchecking
@@ImadogGarcia you couldn't handcheck jordan in the 90s it was a foul. "magic johnson"
per NBA rules.
@@ImadogGarcia clearly you never heard of the “mj rule” 😂🤣
Super happy to see Rondo featured. Was talking to my bud the other day that there is no other player retired or playing that I would rather hear dissect the game, or start a podcast.
He's absolutely one of my all time favorite players, and I say that as a 30 year long Lakers fan. You could see him picking sets apart, you could see the gears turning, you could see his passes becoming more and more precise as the games went on. Truly great basketball mind.
You got the best BBall content, JJ. Thanks for your continued contributions to this incredible sport. Your podcast is a gem.
Hands down best interview of Rondo I’ve ever seen!
I can't believe Rondo is out of the league. I still think he has something in the tank to offer.
Hyped for two great basketball minds!
Man it's funny cause JJ loves CP. Cool to see Rondo talk about it and DEFO can't wait for this episode JJ! This week is about to be fire! Hope y'all enjoyed you're break, can't wait for your coverage of the NBA and all things ball this season! 💪
Loveeeee ittttt. Can't wait for the full interview 💯
LOVED the Rajon/Tubby/Chuck Hayes squad! They ran mid-post splits that were a marvel!
That troll at the end😭
His understanding of math from an early age and wanting to be the first person at the board to give the answer. In basketball terms it helped him to process his decision-making a lot quicker.
It said it himself that it didn't help him with basketball
He literally said it didn’t. Stop it
If anything it just proves that his inner competitiveness is what truly pushed him to the league
stop tryna be different lol. rondo said himself it didn't help him
Nothing about being good about math has to do with being a “quick decision maker”, lol.
As a “gifted” child and adult now, if ppl want to use that term, idc if it’s that or HighIQ or MENSA or whatever, but this dude definitely gives off the energy that he is gifted.
this is gonna be one of my favs yet!!! cant wait
I know one guy that misses Rondo, and that is Anthony Davis. They had a real connection going back to the Pelicans. And nobody was ever better at feeding a big man in the post than Rondo.
Love rondo. He was a beast at Kentucky and now that he’s not playing we get to see what a great basketball mind is.
Son use be dunking on everyone
@@herbertjohnson2254 ain’t he like 6’2” with a 6’6 wingspan
Been waiting for this 🔥🔥
This is gonna be a great interview!! Man I can't wait to get into the psyche of Rondo
One of the best pure point guards ever in my opinion. If I was a coach, I wouldn’t need to call plays, I’d let him run the show. That’s how good his basketball IQ is
This guy is one of my all time favorite players. He had a completely under rated career post Celtics and is one of the smartest players that I've seen in 3 decades of watching NBA ball.
This clip is basketball gold! Needs to be seen 🍀🍀🍀
rondo was a game changer in the playoffs, i remember when he got injured in the playoffs in new Orleans with boogie i was devastated something special was going on
Rondo didn't get injured during the 2017 Pelicans' playoffs run.
Boogie suffered a season-ending injury in late January, but then the Pelicans really took off, winning most of their remaining regular season games. They made the playoffs; swept the Blazers in the first round, and then lost to the Warriors in the second round.
Rondo is going to be a great coach one day
I kinda doubt that, many of these cerebral players aren't the best of communicators, lead assistant definitely. He's a somewhat moody guy with no patience for.. Ummm... Slightly less bright players.
I need this whole episode lol. It’s definitely gonna change my intellectual outlook on the game
JJ’s podcast is one of the best things to happen to the NBA community. We get the background on so many great basketball memories
Need the full episode!
Bulls beats Boston in that series if Rondo doesn’t get hurt
lol. Most ridiculous narrative ever that you all continue to push.
@scandelez He isn't wrong though Bulls were cooking with Rondo healthy
It was looking that way….Once he went out the Bulls offense sucked.
2-0 on the road is usually gg. I wanted rondo wade and butler to go far that year.
@@scandelez 🤣 everybody else in the comment section sees that series differently. If rondo didn’t get hurt sorry to break it to you they are winning that series. Also besides it the bulls had the advantage in every spot
Love to see JJ interviewing my favorite point guard, Chris Paul
Look at some of the older episodes bubs
@@freddybear89Joke went right over your head huh?

😂 I like what you did there at the end. Now I gotta go find the full interview
I was here at like 40k subs and now it’s almost a mill. Wasn’t that long ago. You do an amazing job.
The chris paul comment at the end was hilarious
He was a vital piece in that Lakers 2020 championship team. He would be perfect as an assistant coach for the team now.
This interview is fire.
Not even a full-episode yet but this gonna be my favorite.
One of the greatest assisters in modern basketball history
Finally the podcast legend JJ Redick is back 💫
One of my all time favorite players
The Lakers should never have let him go they should have at least tried to get him into an assistant role.
That applies to a lot of their old players
He could still help them right now
Now that’s how you promo an episode! 😂
love rondo, thanks for having him on. hope to see the both of you as coaches one day
This is one that I've been waiting on! Serious basketball IQ.
If Rajon hadn't gone down with injury in 2016, I'm confident that my Bulls would have been the first 8th seed to beat a 1 seed in a full NBA season (the Knicks were in a shortened, lockout season when they accomplished the feat back in 1999). Either way, can't wait to see this interview!
2017** but yes
Warriors vs mavs?
Future hof one most slept on pgs of this generation he one of the best all time
lol.
Slept on 😮... By who... Definitely not his peers or the teams he played against.
100% he should be a coach. and i pray he gets the opportunity. i'd love to see that
These are great questions and fantastic answers.
Everyone focuses on the 2020 team losing Dwight and Javale, but this was probably the biggest loss from that squad.
I'm one to always hate the fact they let them go because they were a big part. They don't score a lot but the block shots and grab rebounds. Just them being there helped slow down offensive player and gave AD a breather.
@@0327elf no doubt we missed those guys. We saw how poorly andre drummond fit. Just saying that rondo was a much bigger part of that title team than a lot of people realize
@@solido888 I agree with you 100%, that fact cannot be denied 👍🏿
i think losing rondo and dwight were the 2 biggest factors, maybe i'm biased because dwights my favorite player all time, but as good as javale was for the team, it was dwight, rondo, caruso, and kcp that held everything together (other than obviously lebron and ad)
We all have valid points
Chris Paul os one of the most underrated players ever. Two rings, one with the Celtics and the other with the Lakers, I mean, I can’t remember a guy who played for both and won. One of the best floor generals every, AND was a great defender too.
Who?
That ain’t Chris Paul 💀
😂😂😂😂😂
Chris Paul looks different these days
@@cheikhbarro4291😂 Chris Paul looking like a winner lol
Wow!! Great video

Forever love for Rondo here in Boston. Dude was a pleasure to watch run the show ☘️.
Facts 💯 helped bring a chip too 🔥🔥💯 good times

Great stuff
Hearing Rondo talk the game and his strategic mindset is so awesome. Besides Bron, only other player I can think of nowadays that might be "playing against the coach" is Jokic
Rondo > CP0
They the same person
Great job JJ. You are a natural at this
Great podcast/ great content.
That's what seperates JJ's podcast from the rest. He asks questions only the dorks could think of and I love it lol
Rondo > Paul ANYDAY OF THE WEEK‼️‼️
Two of the best basketball minds EVER !! 🐐🔥
you guys never miss when it comes to guest 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Damn I wonder if Jokic has a similar mindset considering the way he calls out plays before they happen. It's a shame he'd never do a pod cause that would be such an interesting mind to take a peek into. Really excited for this episode now!
Draymond green as well
Rajon rondo is the only reason doc rivers won a championship
Playoff Rondo was amazing. Always came up with winning plays
Ready for this full episode ain’t even watched this clip yet
Got a bad rap towards the end because the media will lash out at players who they see to step out of line.. Rondo was always a thin line between genius and insane
Nah I think it started in Dallas. But Rick Carlisle seems to be an over zealous coach. Who likes to nick pick every detail for some reason. Besides Jason Kidd I don’t think he’s ever had a player as smart as rondo. I think with rondo you just gotta remind him of certain things on the floor because he knows the plays front to back

This is a point guard mind. Not what curry does.
Rajon averaged about 8 assists for his career while Steph is averaging about 7 assists in his career but the difference is Steph will drop 20+ points to go along with the assists.
