Lebron been in the league for 20years and helped alot of guys get paid and changes outlook of careers and JR Smith is a PRIME a example of this. 👏👏.

That's why Udonis Haslem has been there as long as he has. Many people make fun of him that he doesn't play, but there's so much more than a veteran leader can do to impact the team

As a Cavs fan, JR Smith will always be loved in the CLE. The 2016 run is obviously well known. But, my favorite JR, and Shump, moments came in 2015 when we were down Kyrie and K Love and JR and Shump were grinding the $hit out of Klay and Steph on the defensive end. Just all up in them. The effort and tenacity they showed in that series made me believe that 2016 was possible. Will always love JR, nothing but love and appreciation for him. 👊

JR.'s actual depth and perception is... kinda profound. But it sorta have to be unlocked by others in way - it's like the observant and analyzing part of him is always running but actively dormant unless it is unlocked by someone else.
I really like him.
He's a "don't speak unless spoken to" kinda dude. So that tracks with what you're saying. He's always observing but don't spill unless you ask

JJ is a legit man. He understands the bigger picture of the League and beyond . I personally admit i thought of JRS differently, but in this short segment i was pleasantly surprised how he talks and carries himself. a Well spoken Man, who could have an interesting conversation . all thanks to JJ’s podcast.

As a Cavs fan I was worried JR might’ve been toxic on the Cavs. Glad that wasn’t the case, he was a different dude. Wish he would’ve been on the Cavs earlier picking up good habits and growing. 2016 wouldn’t have been possible if Swish didn’t get them going in that 3rd.

those 2-3 tough jumpers he had at the start of the 3rd in game 7 were crucial and kept them within reach when it seemed like golden state were starting to pull away
He was one of our best players, he had some incredible shooting performances in the playoffs. One of my favorite players on the Cavs ever

When George Karl would put him in the games he literally had his own section who would all start cheering because we loved that guy. Was so happy for JR when he won that title, and he seems genuinely happy now. He really grew into himself.

I'm honestly jealous about how much practice they can get in. I remember playing for an organized team from elementary school through high school and I would always want to either shootaround after or play a pickup game but once practice was over we had to leave.
In season real NBA teams hardly practice

One of my favourite stories was Shump telling the story of how him and JR were traded to the cavs, the knicks treated them like damaged goods, JR was 'thrown in the trade', Bron said he wanted them, because he knew their real value

I rather remember him for his, to me, iconic "ride 'em cowboy"-dunk in Denver than for this. When u compare it to DeAndre Jordan it's literally not fair. That guy had a similiar lowlight moment and also iconic dunks, but will be always remembered for his dunk on Brandon Knight.
Him, Nick Young, Shumpert. You hear their stories and it’s very apparent how where you end up, what the culture is like, and opportunities are huge on who becomes star in the league or not and it’s not so much about talent disparity being that large.
It's beautiful to see how much wisdom he's acquired.

Loved him on the Cavs. Aside from that one play that everyone knows in the finals… he was super solid. Glad to see he’s doing well
I remember during the ECF in 2015, after game 3 Kenny smith said "Lebron is about to take the New York Knicks to the finals". Kevin Love and Kyrie were both injured and Lebron basically had JR smith, Iman Shumpert, Dellevodova and Tristan Thompson as his starters aka the Knicks. The actual Knicks, who had sent shumpert and smith to the cavs that year finished with the worst record in the East whilst the Cavs swept the 60 win Hawks
Tells you a lot about Melo. Lot of people were to blame for the knicks. Isiah, Phil, Steve Mills, Dolan, Amares Injury. Blah blah. But in the end look what Bron did with the castaway knicks. Melo May be a great teammate and nice guy, but he made no one around him better. No one. Phil gets there and he immediately says they aren’t running the triangle lol wait what? Melo a guy who never won anything at the professional level questioning a guy with 10 rings. He may have been right in a sense but his non-buy in ruined them. He never wanted porzingis, when he came back from injury during Lin’s run he put a stop to it because he wanted to shoot the ball 25 times again and thought he was Kobe. But he wasn’t. Essentially, these dudes were wasted on the knicks because of Melo.
Amazing player with amazing athleticism. One of the smoothest jumpers in the league with an explosive dunk package.

I cheered hard for JR Smith, I even prayed that he join lakers in 2020. It came to pass. Never once did I gravitate to negativity about what people on social media let come out their mouths. I saw exactly the same guy I saw win in Cleveland.

@@fcarter3863not really. Mostly what I hear is the critics trying to discredit him saying he is a stat chaser, although he is averaging 25/7/8. Instead of praising his work ethic, eating, training that goes all the way back to HS, as the reason he is still able to play at an All-NBA level. They should be promoting his longevity as being the result of what a professional athlete should do so that these young athletes can learn from it, like JR learned. Instead so many are focused on trying to find flaws so they can make sure no one puts him over MJ as the GOAT.

What a great conversation. I was in the military (USAF) for 24 years. The culture of an organization makes a huge difference in individual and organizational success.
The level of preparation now vs then explains why the skill level and the way the game is played now is so high. The quality of the game is improving

The most interesting for me as a JR Smith fan is he played with Melo in Denver and NY. What he said made me think how where he was in his mentality, Melo didn’t have the opportunity to have the type of players around him to win and had to carry both Franchises at the time. Melo’s best players he played with was old Iverson then Old Billups in Denver, and 2 bad Knees Amare in NY
Melo didn’t have the luxury of being another scoring option till he left NY. But Melo also craved being the number 1 option as well. JR seems like he was with whatever.
