I know everyone misses James and Jamie, myself included, but I just want to say thank you to Alex for putting in the effort to do these solo episodes when the others can't make it. The cast makes my Mondays (bear)bearable and I look forward to them every week. I also really enjoy the travel episodes and I hope we get to hear more about your trip to Portugal in the coming weeks!
I seriously don't know why you wont get guests like the hilarious I Hate Everything to fill in for your podcast. Guy used to be a staple for the Official Podcast and is consistent!!
I want to see an entire continent serpentized, like Antarctica. I mean literally too, where for example Antarctica becomes a living, breathing and serpentized being.
Been watching since the old channel, the fact that there's only been iirc a single missed monday is admirable and the effort you guys put in is appreciated, goon on.
I'm a huge fan of Megalopolis, it unironically brought me to tears a few times at the theatre, and there wasn't a second I spent bored/unengaged. I think the thesis is more than just satire, more than just doing a movie "badly". It's seeking alternatives, good or bad, because conversating about alternatives, pushing for alternatives, allowing alternatives is good for the world. In a lot of ways I deeply love art, but with love must come hatred. What you want to see out of it and where you decide to love and hate is the progression of anyone building a palette. I find it funny people struggle with Megalopolis, and in turn Megalopolis itself really funny. When you say there's nothing to grasp, I really do feel what you're saying Alex, and you personally need SOMETHING to grasp onto. For me, I love film and what it is, but what I love even more is art as a wider idea, and as a thing to experience. The idea of art as a tool, as Megalopolis as a tool. I'm attracted to its flaws and feel a complete subjective affection towards the experience of Megalopolis, all lack of pillars included. I'm upset so many people hate this movie because of how deeply I love it. I don't want to sniff my own farts and think of how I view movies as "special". I don't want it to be special, I want it to be universal. I think a lot of how people might view JAR media how lots view Megalopolis, granted you guys find structure, but then something like the Curry Episode becomes extremely important and special to the community. The love starts because of how "shit" it is, funny to make fun of, you could get more surface level entertainment or seemingly learn more from so many other videos. But then you think about what watching it can provoke, what that represents, the "value" becomes subjective and that maybe to some, The Curry Episode is high art.
One thing i hate about the current aaa game industry is this insistance on the hyper realistic art style. The fact that these new zelda games get praised on that aspect shows how barren the current landscape is. It fustrates me because i feel there is so much untapped potential like a spiderverse inspired Spiderman game that we are missing out on.
Apart from missing the rest of the crew, I reeeally liked this episode. I guess I used to like IHE videos A LOT, and this is the closest that it gets to it.
yeah id put (single ) in the title or something to differentiate, idk if people dislike these single eps, but i enjoy them, its like an elongated IHE video so thank you, bear bear
This feels like Alex is hallucinating and dreaming and he's just in an insane asylum locked up talking to himself, and all of his friends were just hallucinations the entire time and he's slowly waking up to reality, Jar was all in his head.
I for one am glad that Jim is gone, he added far too much spunk to the cast, glad that Alex is here to give us all a sedated cast on this mondayolopolis
Garden Warfare gets a lot of hate I think. It's actually a really fun casual game to play with some friends. It still has some elements of tower defense, but it definitely is primarily a third person shooter. I would give it another try and see what you think. Also, I want to echo other comments and just reiterate that I personally really enjoy these solo casts. Great work!
Garden warfare is great, does it get much hate? I feel like people generally like it from what I see, and personally I think it hits a good balance between competitive and casual which a lot of online multiplayer games lack, plus all of the co op / single player stuff is fun
stoke-on-trent (birth place of our main man robbie) jarling here i feel like maybe the decision to make him this cgi chimp hybrid could come from the phrase “northern monkey”. my family of a similar age to him use it a lot! can’t wait to see him in all his glory on the big screen
The depths of Letterboxd are a weird place. They mostly appear, like with your review of Megalopolis, in the comments of popular reviews, where they attack anyone with an opinion they consider incorrect. Or, if you look at the top reviews for Showgirls, for example, the highest rated review is a 5-star review saying "The people who think this is dumb are the same people who think Inception is smart." with 5000 likes, and people in the comments generally vehemently agreeing. It's this weird tendency to signal allegiance to some abstract group of people whose cleverness transcends that of everyone else, by denouncing those they consider beneath them. It's just peak insecurity, why can't they just admit that some people like different things? I have my own fantastic experience - a long time ago, I wrote a negative review for Birth of a Nation (1915 movie where the KKK are the good guys), and this one person responded to me with a 7 paragraph comment that looked like it was run through a Thesaurus algorithm to look smart, calling me a hypocritical racist fascist because I disliked Birth of a Nation and had The Holy Mountain in my favourite movies at the time. To this day, I have no idea if they were trolling.
I think I know why the Megaopolis review has gotten such braindead, antagonistic responses. Leading up to the film's release, the director said a bunch of milquetoast, "anti-woke" comments. The culture war tossers who have been outrage tourists in the game industry at the moment heard this and decided this was their new "anti-woke" example of success. The things that convinced me of this was the one comment that mentioned the outspoken cooker, Jon Voight, and the comment that because Alex did not like it, they were going to see it to spite him. The outrage tourists are a blight on humanity and should be made fun of at every turn. What a bunch of weirdos.
I live in Portugal and that graffiti is probably just some graffiti artists' signature, tbh it doesn't even look like the imdb logo, you "trippin fr fr", also I'm disappointed that you didn't talk more about the trip since it's my "crib". PS I recomend you visit Coimbra next time, it's my beautiful city and home to the oldest university in europe full of tradition and history.
That's a shame you missed the premiere of Piece by Piece. I worked on the movie and can't see it for another two months because of the Australian release date!
Alex talking about films he didn’t understand when he watched younger as well as not knowing the context and knowing his take on Evangelion and even more The End of Evangelion, smh.
I mostly missed out on the PS4 generation, starting with PS5 generatiom I finally got to play the Spider-Man games, and am looking forward tp playing God of War, I think the reason I still am looking forward to some of these types of games is my lack of overexposure with the formula, although sony can eat my ass when it comes to being a buissness. I think the main ps issues are variety and sony themselves. Astro Bot was great btw.
I get what Alex is saying with Sony exclusives. Part of the problem with them is that they’re gameplay follows a formula that leaves little room for innovation or reinvention. Plus they’ve thrown themselves in the mud with that whole live service pipe dream which gave us the now defunct Concord. PC gaming by contrast has seen massive leaps and bounds in terms of game variety but also quality this year. On that note has Alex playing anything good or interesting recently?
On the topic of animation and sexuality inspired by the PeePooDo creators; what does JAR think of fictosexuals like myself? (Fictosexuals being people who are romantically or sexually attracted to fictional characters, or enjoy sexual fiction) I just learned the term recently, and it applies to me as I've been crushing on characters since I was essentially a baby. I am autistic and that likely plays a role in it, but I have always found it easy to mentally envision characters as living people and emotionally connect with them. I have never been disinterested in relationships with real people, but I don't feel much differently about made-up people, either. I love seeing sexuality explored in art - be it real actors or created characters - so I have always had a soft spot for mature animation with adult themes. My peers who are more puritan than I tend to (lightly) mock me for it and call me a pervert, but I don't mind.
1:01:00 Those strong narrative moments, coupled with gameplay that prioritizes immersion and realistic graphics, are why Sony exclusives are treated as if they’re the pinnacle of gaming. Honestly the story could even just be serviceable or decent, but because you’re playing it, no matter what, it feels *you’re* the protagonist, especially when again it looks so realistic.
I find these "If IHE hates then it is sign that I must see it!" What has alex ever said that was really wrong in terms of movies? The guy hates Illumination, Madagascar and stuff, all pretty hatable shlocks.
The way you feel about megalopolis I feel about eraser head 😁 it does have a story overall but in general... It's not entertaining or intriguing, it is exactly how you said - annoying all the way through.
I don’t get the obscene amount of hateful comments on your Megalopolis review. Like they either already followed you or intentionally looked for it. Why would they do this when they hate you enough that your disdain for a film makes them want to watch it more? Such strange behaviour
I genuinely do not mind the alone episode, I enjoyed the last one. But ruminating over negative comments for most of the episode was not it, chief. It just is focusing on needless negativity
The human reaper SUCKS. In fact, Mass Effect 2, while a fantastic game, actively ruins mass effect 3 preemptively because they just did nothing to do with the main plot. Even within Mass effect 2, where you're stopping the collectors because they're gonna build a human reaper and all that stupid shit, the dlc is like "actually the reapers were gonna come in a few weeks anyway because of this artifact lmao!" and the plot relies on them successfully conquering earth with what little they have when it takes them months and months on earth in ME3 without killing everyone! thoughts?
I know everyone misses James and Jamie, myself included, but I just want to say thank you to Alex for putting in the effort to do these solo episodes when the others can't make it. The cast makes my Mondays (bear)bearable and I look forward to them every week.

Can I now request 'I hate Mars Bars', please?

Its like watching an IHE video

I guess I used to like IHE videos A LOT, and this is the closest that it gets to it.
For me:
James, Alex and Jaime. = JAR
Jaime and Alex = BRO
Just Alex = All Alone (And Sad) (And Cold)?
I’m glad you’re doing well Alex. Your videos helped me out throughout the years. Thank you for everything.❤
