Didn’t realise what a great album this is. I must visit iTunes and make the purchase. It was only last week that I was listening to Mr Jones , first time I’d listened to this band in years. Then I remembered that the name of the album is “August and Everything After” which is a title that resonates with me. There is everything before August 2017, then there is August 2017 and everything after. That August was a time of the most extreme emotional turmoil, suffocating, very dark and scary stuff. It continued for months, I couldn’t shake it until one day a week into the new year I found out I had a 10cm cancerous tumour on my right kidney. From that day I emerged from the darkness and life took on a new vitality and became wonderful again. I’ve made a full recovery, and August 2017 and everything after has been a time of profound contrast to everything before it. Sorry to waffle on but seeing this kind of like the planets aligning or something. The chances of it would have had to have been slim, after listening to Counting Crows only last week, and realising what the title of the album I was listening to meant to me. All very meaningful. Mmmmm. Waffle waffle blah blah. I really enjoy your presentations. Thank you from down under.

This is one of my top 5 albums ever!!!!! August & Everything After came out when i was 18ish and I learned a lot about songwriting from this band. When Recovering came out it was a 90 degree turn for them (to my ears anyway). It showed me that musicians can change and grow right out of the gate, they dont have to kick the dead horse for 3 albums before trying new things.

I met Adam once. As 10,000+ people were streaming into the venue for the show, most didn't look back a radio station van as they passed. If they had, they'd have seen Adam giving interviews. One question was "Why do you help so many up and coming bands?" He said he did so in part because maybe some day his band might not be doing so well and then they could maybe help them. He also said if he could get them famous, then there'd be more music he liked on the radio. A bit later he got a phone call from someone, had to be a friend that didn't get a ticket or wasn't on the guest list. So he went to the ticket window himself to get them a ticket. No hiding from the fans! :)

This is one of my favorite vids you've made. He is such a cool down to earth non pretentious man. I am rediscovering this album, and this band with a new set of eyes and a whole new appreciation as an adult that I didnt have when it was a new release. Such a great piece of work all around. Cracked me up, the reverb "we opened the door" lol.. Its about as real as it gets in a recording environment.. And he woke him up to sing hes not sleeping anymore hahaha Yes!! what an awesome glimpse of the organic magic... Thank you good Sir.

So here's my meeting Adam Duritz story:
My buddy and I took a trip to NYC to see Marcy Playground play a free show at the Bowery Electric. Turns out it's a big event with 20+ bands playing and two different stages, and the thing is organized in part by Adam himself.
So when Marcy Playground is playing he comes out to watch and my buddy and I are close to him. And, I'm thinking, "Eh, I kinda like the Counting Crows- if get the chance I'm going to tell him how much I love the song, 'Round Here.'"
Sure enough he does and I kind go into star-struck mode and reach to shake his hand and naturally spew out some nervous spiel about how Round Here is one of the great pop songs of the last twenty five-WHOOPS! He's already turned back around and talking to the 23 year-old hottie he was with.

I worked at a studio with the crowes current FOH at the time (exchange studio in winnipeg) and we had a lot of the gear that was used to make this record. the crowes had it all in storage and we shipped it to canada. 1073/1081's, api's, v72's, LA2A/1176's and the craziest mic collection: m49's, u47, c24 (stereo c12!!) c37A's, 4038's...we recorded a ton of cool stuff and even did a session with steve albini in there. mostly punk records: ken mode, propagandhi, union stockyards, dead ranch and a bunch of other stuff. eventually he stopped doing FOH for the band and the gear all went back to them, wonder what it's up to now?

How very cool to discover this! When the band first appeared I did a deep-dive on their background, learned about Adam and Stephen Jenkins coming up in SF. Then a drummer friend from Philosophy class who I was jamming with a little in Athens, GA, got a call that changed his life. His name is Ben Mize and that call was for him to join the band as their new drummer starting with this album. Thanks for making my day, Warren! @@Producelikeapro Interestingly Butch Vig once told me he referenced early Roxy Music when working on Never Mind, especially Manzanera's guitar. I wonder if he would still admit to that?

I’ve heard that Universal has “lost” the Master tapes for “Satellites”, & that is why it has never been revisited, do you know if this is this true?
    If so, that’s a tragedy.
