How Paul Skenes Took Over Baseball Out Of Nowhere

- Paul Skenes has quickly become one of the most exciting pitchers in baseball, and with the ability to consistently throw 100+ mph, it’s easy to see why. However, his journey to stardom was not as easy as it may seem, and fans are worried that arm injuries are inevitable.
This is the story of Paul Skenes.

Dude went 1st overall in the draft. I'd hardly consider that "out of nowhere."
Here is a true example of "out of nowhere." Seth Lugo this year.
Skenes didn't start throwing 100+ until he went to LSU. The pitching coach put him on an MLB training program and worked his mechanics and then suddenly he was throwing 102-103. He can throw faster but chooses not to.
I love it that this was kept to baseball and didn’t involve his love life
Pirate fan here. Hopefully they will get some offence to back their quality starters. Great vid. Thanks
Pirates fan let’s goooooo
we deserve it skenes made the bucs fun watching again
@@rozzelli6924 Yep! He pitched another great game last evening.
Got some last night 14-2 vs Mets. Was an unreal game to attend in Home Plate Club.
@@LordHighFixxer Cool!
He is must see TV. Even when he looks off he manages to post quality starts. This is bigger than Strasburg mania was and I’m all for it!!
He reminds me of mark the bird fidrych. you know that I know what I even sat down with your grandmother and she knows it
Dude would give Gerritt Cole or Corbin Burnes the fight of their lives on a cold October night. I could see Skenes being the cold-blooded type.
I believe that, lifetime Yankee fan
Who thinks Paul Skenes is Spencer Striders secret twin
Definitely
They both have the greatest mustaches in the sport
I’m a braves fan we played against him yesterday I swore strider changed jerseys
Yea the twin that's not near as good 😂. I love Strider's game but he can't even hold Skenes jockstrap. Specifically Strider's off speed pitches are a lot less lethal than Skenes. Strider gets hit hard waaaay more often.
Skenes is better.
That LSU team was stacked, they also had 2nd overall pick Dylan crews, no wonder they won a natty.
W vid bro, I subbed, keep up the good work.
appreciate it! 🙏
He didn't come out of nowhere. Dude dominated college baseball an entire year
It's funny seeing my aunt in the booth with Livvy Dunne
I thought at LSU he was more over the top like Verlander and Nolan Ryan. He needs to get back to that or he's not going to last. Save the splinker for when you really need it. You got 5 pitches you can control, work on that, and make going over top your primary. He's big and powerful, too many pitches in this video are going to blow his arm out, much like Strider.
finally, i love watching vids about skenes, he's an anomaly
out of nowhere? I've been hearing about him all year
He reminds me of Dwight Gooden…a phenom. Hope the Pirates don’t screw him up!
Pirates rotation looking scary...
I’m being honest. I feel like he would’ve had injury problems already. He’s throwing 100 effortlessly.
But the problem is he's just one pitcher. The Pirates need three more of him to be a competitive team.
Skenes taking over baseball is not out of nowhere.
In Stash I Trust
howeeevveerrrrr
So how can you just leave the airforce? I'm confused
You can leave in your first two years, after that you’re locked in I’m pretty sure
He didn’t commission, nor did he enlist. The service academies are training you to be an officer. Most likely he didn’t contract yet so his baseball dream could be kept alive. I’m not sure exactly what the rules are because I’m in rotc at a state school which is a little different than a service academy.
I’m not sure how common that is, but some people go there for the prestige and free education but then realize they hate it and/or discover the career as an officer is not for them. I’ve met a few people like that.
The military doesn’t want officers who don’t want to be there, but they don’t want to give out free educations and not get anything back, so this is the compromise.
nobody worried about Nolan Ryan...the human body can do this just fine. If you're at that level.
Oh, can we add that Paul Skenes dealt Elly DeLaCruz his first pickoff at first base just two weeks ago!!! How 'bout them Buccos!!!
Livvy Dunne?
Nice vid
I hope pirates don’t waste him by trying to protect his arm. They’re gonna have 4-good years with him til they have to trade him due to cheapness.
Something tells me he won’t be here for the full 4 yrs. The Pirates are notorious for selling talent for profit.
You have 6 years of arbitration, there’s no way they trade him before that
Those last 4 games got him a national championship and made him the #1 overall pick. He doesn’t labor when he throws. It’s too bad we all obsess over pitchers throwing too much because we are worried something may happen. Not everyone blows out. Could he yeah but that doesn’t mean he will.
Take a shot every time this guy says "however".
hahah u might not survive. I didn’t think anyone would notice, will try to work on that
Go look at Nolan Ryans numbers. You would say Skenes is putting up rookie numbers.
Nolan Ryan had a lifetime 2.97 fip and a career high of 11.5 so/9
Skenes this year has a fip of 2.78 with 11.8 so/9
Nolan Ryan is overated: Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Clemens, Walter Payton and Kershaw are the true pillars pitchers should be compared too
Its just really hard to get excited for pitchers careers when their injuries keep them out for months/years.
agreed, hopefully he can stay healthy for some time though
When I look at his mechanics, it looks like he really uses all of his body to distribute the workload, should he’ll keep him healthy throughout his career
And he didn't start pitching until a few years ago
@@shadowlazers They said similar about DeGrom :(
all good till he gets tj cause he will he is pretty good though a bit overhyped
Looking at Paul Skenes, I worry. The dude is utterly dominate on the mound at times, but the human elbow isn't designed to take that kind of repeated stress, over and over again, over a course of years.
Maybe we will get lucky though, and he'll have both the velocity of Nolan Ryan, as well as his tendon strength. The game would defenitly be better for it.
Tommy John is in his near future unfortunately.
Thank you for not making this video about his girlfriend lol. Yes she’s beautiful and yes she very talented, but good god almighty I’m sick of hearing about her! Great video man!
I try to stick to just baseball haha. Glad you enjoyed it!
As I was watching this video a pirate pop up just came up Jared Jones placed on the 15 day injured list. Injuries can happen in an instant hopefully it doesn’t happen to Skenes.
He's the Caitlin Clark of MLB.
Comparing an elite male athlete to a female one is kind of odd.
People were interested in MLB before Skenes made his debut.
@@MrSefiroh That's because you missed the point of analogy and focused on an irrelevant difference and look like a sexist now. The WNBA like MLB each have a rookie sensation who is fascinating the fans and boosting ratings. The comparison is simple. You must be dense.
@@DexterHaven the fact you talk about the wnba likes it credible. 😂.
Oh no, calling me sexist is going to ruin my day. Please stop.
@@MrSefiroh That makes no sense logically. The WNBA is fit for analogy, silly. Plus, the issue isn't me calling you 'sexist'; it's you demonstrating it with a focus on gender in a derogatory way when it wasn't even relevant to the analogy. You can't think clearly yet again.
He’s good. But Nolan Ryan was the man. 7 no nos. Cmon dude. When skenes gets at least 1 then maybe …
bro forgot about livvy dunn
Dude's a unicorn.
Out of nowhere? Dude was the number one pick, last summer lol
Ya ..last summer..thats the point..a few weeks in the minors and he's dominating mlb
It’s baseball dude. You don’t usually just see someone get drafted and make an immediate impact. It can take years for too prospects to make it theough the minors and even longer to prove they belong in the majors. There was actually a debate whether or not he or crews should have gone 1st overall. With the benefit of hindsight, him going 1 was obvious, but it wasn’t even at the time. He’s already dominating the mlb, it’s unprecedented
This number 1 overall pick just came out of nowhere😂
How often is the number one pick in baseball play the next season
Baseball drafts are nothing like football or basketball, it’s way more unpredictable and less publicized
Man
he hasn't given up 3 runs in all of his starts right?
You gave up one run in his first game and left two runners on and they were walked home so technically he gave up three in his first start of four innings
Out of nowhere? They showed his last season of lsu on sports center. He won the cws. He was 1 overall. wtf you mean out of nowhere? He should have started opening day for the pirates. He was the best pitcher in the big leagues while he was in the minors. Fuck you mean out of nowhere.
Yea, some people really don't know what that means.
What u mean by "out of nowhere"????????
Out of nowhere because he was pitching at LSU last summer and now he's dominating dominating Major League baseball no minors
@@shadowlazersit's still fundamentally wrong. When you go first overall in the draft it is with the understanding you have the highest chance of becoming an elite player out of ALL those other players.
Being drafted in the 8th and coming in and performing like this would be "out of nowhere."
Either way, he always had the tag of being elite.
120 pitches is 3 of 4 games…Nolan Ryan hold my beer. Anyone thinking a starter going 5 innings as a quality start is just sad. A work horse stud #1 pitcher should be going 7, at minimum. This kid is electric!
dudes had zero health issues yet you felt the need to talk about him having arm issues in the future? foh
He hasn’t ’Broken’ baseball. How did he break it? These cliched clickbait titles are embarrassing
Talking about 120 pitch counts shows you how soft and pussified baseball has become.
Agree with a lot of this video except that LSU is one of the best programs. They are a mid program. Look at Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, and Vanderbilt as the class of the SEC.
Agreed with this post. ❤.
You’re right. Agreed.
He’s a first round pick if he plays at Florida or Tennessee.
Agreed.
@rsp1218 you serious bro 😂. You are nothing and you clearly don’t watch ball. You’re nothing.
Who thinks he is the next Mark the bird Fidrych
Eventual Yankee or dodger or whatever. Ugh.
