    Everyone saw this coming, or at least should have. Guys who swing at everything have no chance of aging remotely well; their approach is entirely dependent on an elite bat speed and barrel rate, no fallback skills or methodology, so when their physical abilities decline just the slightest bit they’re completely cooked.

    Baez was a product of the special ball first introduced in 2016, and over modified from 2019-2021. 2022 they changed the ball again it was deader. So I think some of his success came from that. As for his stint in NYC, as a Puerto Rican, I’m sure it helped given how many of us live in NYC, plus Lindor playing with him probably lifted his spirit, contending may have also helped. I think he def would have been a worse hitter given the ball, but overall probably league average had he stayed in NYC. And as a Mets fan as well, I’m sorry to say I’m glad they didn’t resign him then and now

There is a delay right now on any possible upswing for him however as he just went on the IL. Apparently according to manager AJ Hinch on a radio interview just after his stint started he said that have had been dealing with chronic back pain for 2 years and it just finally became unbearable. I could lean conspiracy and think they’re getting ready to drop him, or I can look at this break for him as a potential blessing. (For the record I thought he looked a little stiff on fielding play right before this designation so I think this is a legit injury) hopefully the time off allows him to heal his body and mind and he comes back on fire. Frankly I hope both him and Torkelson both break out of their struggles because when those guys are right they’re fun to watch.

      I have to believe teams give their players regular eye exams to head off potential issues, since vision is the most important thing for a hitter. Actually, hard to believe as it may be, Javy’s issue is that he’s not swinging ENOUGH. For how bad he is, he has over a .300 batting average with RISP this year as well as last year. Javy has actually been swinging less every year since he’s been in Detroit. Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press did some statistical research and found that Javy’s swing % with RISP is just as high if not higher than it was pre-2022. Detroit’s coaches have tried to make javy more selective because he’s such a free swinger, but being selective was never what made him so good. He’s always had terrible pitch recognition, but swinging at everything lead to more hits regardless of how much he struck out. He is too conscious of his approach. He is too in his head. Evan Petzold told him this in an interview and Javy said he was not aware of those statistics but that it was interesting to him. I blame the Tigers hitting coaches.

    He’s always swing at everything. He was able to make it work. But problem is as soon as that bat speed drops just a tad now he can’t make up for bad plate discipline

    7:42 After seeing half a video of Baez swings and misses it feels like Bobby's waiting an eternity to swing at those outside pitches. Way more compact of a swing than Baez

    Pitchers realized that they didn't ever have to throw Baez a strike and he never adjusted. I'm actually surprised Detroit hasn't bought out his contract. He's actively hurting a competitive team.

  • @user-tp4ii6hs3l
    @user-tp4ii6hs3l 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    All of his early success had to do with his top of the league ability to make good contact on balls out of the zone due to extremely good plate coverage and top bat speed. Bat speed drops with age and has to be compensated with discipline and getting pitches in hot zones, throw in the fact that pitchers throw measurably harder in 2024 than in 2015 and it is a recipe for disaster.

    But Micah Parsons an NFL player thinks he can hit .200 in a season. Which I believe isn’t possible. But you look at Baez a major league hitter that barely toes the line. Good video

    The Scott Harris Methodology doesn't seem to be helping him either, as yes, hes striking out less, but hes making weaker contact than ever before. He lets the first pitch go, and as a free swinger, sometimes thats the best pitch you see, so no he falls behind in the count, the pitcher gets in his head and it's all over.

    This is my least favorite player in Tigers history. Yeah he sucks, and even worse he doesn’t care. He’s on his own program, doesn’t listen to anybody. Doesn’t make adjustments, same approach every at bat. Tigers just DFA him and cut our losses.

  • @SmoothCriminal12
    @SmoothCriminal12 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think at least part of the problem is that because he's playing g half his games at cavernous Comerica Park, he's overcompensating to swing further for the fences. At least that's my takeaway.

    javy struck out at a higher rate with the cubs than he ever has with the tigers, (his past few seasons have the lowest K% of his career) and he doesn't chase as much for the tigers either. the issue is that with the cubs he managed to have an elite barrel rate despite chasing so much. he could barrel literally anything, and he played like it. but now? he doesn't play with the same confidence. he's found himself in a middle ground where he doesn't chase as much, but lost his ability to barrel the ball and punish hittable pitches. the issue isn't that he swings at everything, the problem is that he lost confidence in his ability to hit any pitch thrown at him.
