I was at a Tigers game a few weeks ago and a vender was walking by so I asked him to toss me a bag peanuts. Baez swung at it and struck out.
Stop it bro 😂😂😂
I’ve heard that one before haha 😂
😂😂
Javy saw this comment. He went to click the dislike button, but he missed that too.
W
In his first month in MLB, he set the record for most K's in one month by a batter.
His eyesight could be going at this point. I've never liked free swingers in general, but this is just crazy.
Edgar Martinez had eyesight problems (strabismus) that started in 1999 and spent hours every day doing just eyesight training. Only stayed in the league 5 years after it started but still
No, he started this with the Cubs around 2018 or so.
I remember in 2021, many Met fans were crying for the Mets to sign him to a long-term deal in the offseason. Their mouths drooled over the thought of a Baez lindor infield. Thank God they dodged that bullet.
Yea just think if they had done that. They’d be 10 games under .500 instead of just 6
Lindor contract is terrible too.
@@doublem1975xI don’t think he’s a bad player, but at that salary he’s way overpaid.
@@rich7787 Lindor is a good defensive shortstop, but he is incredibly streaky. He just can't seem to hit in the spring.
@@rich7787 i feel like good teams develop their own shortstops instead of buying them. look at who have been generational talents at that position, arod, jeter, hanley ramirez, even simmons cozart. all were young guys locked under team control in their prime years
Everyone saw this coming, or at least should have. Guys who swing at everything have no chance of aging remotely well; their approach is entirely dependent on an elite bat speed and barrel rate, no fallback skills or methodology, so when their physical abilities decline just the slightest bit they’re completely cooked.
Everyone except Al Avila
I was a big Baez fan when he was in his prime. He is capable of pure magic! It is sad to see this decline.😢
This is a severe case of the Yips. I wish him the best of luck, it's not easy being under so much pressure. That contract musta felt like 100+million lbs on his back.
Javy was so much fun to watch when he was with the Cubs. Him, Rizzo, Bryant, Arrieta. Rizzo is good, but not the HoF player we thought he would be. Bryant is plagued by back problems. And Arrieta has retired and faded away.
You can still be a big Baez fan! He's clearly lost his touch the last few years, but the amount of baseball joy he's created can last a a lifetime. The play where he hits the infield ball and literally calls the runner at home "safe" while he runs around the bases back and forth against pittsburgh... that's a priceless play
@@jessetaylorkoechling true. That play is my favorite all time play in MLB history. El Mago making magic.
simply bad coaching
Baez is the only hitter I ever saw who actually swung at a pitch that bounced a foot in front of the plate and managed to golf it into the gap for a double, like a cricket player.
Vladimir Guerrero did that a couple times
Vladimir Guerrero
Vladimir Guerrero Sr
Tbf to Baez, the highlights I've seen of Guerrero hitting balls that bounce in front of the plate resulted in singles, not doubles.
Vladdy says hi.
One thing not mentioned in this video and I feel is super important is this year he is hitting .390 with 24 RBI with RISP. It's an anomaly but Baez plays best in big situations which doesn't happen much here in Detroit. Truthfully I think he performs best under spotlight
In the postseason, Baez is a career .221 hitter. In the World Series, Baez hits .167
@@jaedog53 - LCS MVP + WS game 7 home run
I truly think this is the majority of the problem. There’s not enough fans out there on a regular basis for him to really feel the pressure and lock in.
All the Mets fan started booing him when he got off to a horrible start, then what happened? He raked the rest of the season.
This dude thrives in the spotlight, he’s El Mago. I couldn’t believe he chose to go to Detroit, I thought the Mets were a perfect fit.
He should pull a Michael Jordan but switch to basketball. He might make the Pistons better.
Lol 😂
You do realize MJ sucked at baseball, don't you? Terrible example to use.
@@unkledoda420 Nah it makes sense. With how ass the pistons are Baez might actually be helping them, even if he sucks like Jordan. It isn’t a terrible example.
@@unkledoda420 Concept, not example.
Why does this actually sound like a good idea, lol
That swing reminds me a lot of that Alfonso Soriano kid. I MISS THAT KID! 😭
That's exactly who Baez reminds me of with that swing but Soriano even being a free swinger still put up power numbers and a respectable batting average.
His biggest issue is he swings through the ball. Hes trying to destroy every pitch thrown at him instead of getting power through contact.
I miss the prime Baez he was so good and I loved him in a cubs fan I remember the World Series I was at the house watching it
I remember seeing you there. What's up? How've you been?
@@dennisdezarn5895I’ve been ok thanks! How are you, DeWayne and the ferrets doing? I’d imagine pretty well after collecting Margaret’s life insurance huh haha
He reminds me of me in MLB 9 innings, I always go for the first pitch, even if it’s outside the strike zone
You beat me to this comment. I do this in mlb the show
@@antbojo 💯
Even back when he was on the Cubs, i knew he was a trainwreck waiting to happen. Too undisciplined in every facet of the game. Wants to be the hero.
don't forget in 2018 out in Milwaukee when Baez destroyed an entire clubhouse sink with a baseball bat bc the Cubs lost a ballgame. sadly we still haven't seen the worst of Javier Baez. don't be surprised if he ends up in prison
@@marcuswilliams7512wtf is this comment 2018 was 6 years ago and we have seen ppl break things bc there team lost a game its completely normal
@@Victor-jm3eh buffoon said it's completely normal for a professional athlete to destroy an entire sink with a baseball bat bc his team lost a game. i see the clowns are out today
Baez was a product of the special ball first introduced in 2016, and over modified from 2019-2021. 2022 they changed the ball again it was deader. So I think some of his success came from that. As for his stint in NYC, as a Puerto Rican, I’m sure it helped given how many of us live in NYC, plus Lindor playing with him probably lifted his spirit, contending may have also helped. I think he def would have been a worse hitter given the ball, but overall probably league average had he stayed in NYC. And as a Mets fan as well, I’m sorry to say I’m glad they didn’t resign him then and now
Great vid
I watched biography on Greg Maddox, most MLB players sit on pitches, so it’s easier to get a strikeout. But, once hitters hit 35, it’s hard to catch up to pitches. Meaning, he has to choose his pitch when he goes to bat.
the swing on the intro always has me cracking up man
never noticed this in footage before but it looks like baez changes the grip on his follow through on different swings. hes the first hitter ive seen use a one handed and two handed followthrough like that. most guys stick to picking one or the other.
I played baseball from tball through high school and American Legion.
I was a good fielder. Played 2nd and shortstop. I was not a good hitter. I realized I was deciding to swing or not before the pitch was even thrown. I couldn't make the decision as I was seeing the pitch. Guess I just wasn't quick enough.
no.... you just had no one show you the proper way to hit.
He misses Lindor. 💔💔
For me it’s the fact that he goes out there and NEVER CHANGES ANYTHING. It’s the same approach time and time again. Like idk try removing that huge leg kick, or less movement, different stance.. something!!
Man I love Baez so much as a Cubs fan. This makes me so sad. I honestly think its 90% mental. Still the best base running and general baseball IQ Ive ever seen in a player.
Javier baez is the type of guy that will listen to the "swing!"noise in MLB the show.
Ironically, Yogi was known for being better than anyone at hitting pitches nowhere near the strike zone. Baez has to remember he's not Yogi though lol.
This is me when I play mlb the show
Basically Javey is now Orioles Chris Davis in a costume
Great video must’ve taken awhile to put all those Baez swings in this video
I think that as pitching and hitting metrics advance batters will fall further than further behind.
Coming from a Tigers fan. We hate him.
🤡
🤡
🤡
We don’t hate him Mabey the injury he had changed somthing
And at least he’s better than Ryan kriedler
As a Tigers fan he’s been frustrating. I don’t hold the ire that many others do because I’ve seen when he’s clicking and that Javy is impressive. There is a delay right now on any possible upswing for him however as he just went on the IL. Apparently according to manager AJ Hinch on a radio interview just after his stint started he said that have had been dealing with chronic back pain for 2 years and it just finally became unbearable. I could lean conspiracy and think they’re getting ready to drop him, or I can look at this break for him as a potential blessing. (For the record I thought he looked a little stiff on fielding play right before this designation so I think this is a legit injury) hopefully the time off allows him to heal his body and mind and he comes back on fire. Frankly I hope both him and Torkelson both break out of their struggles because when those guys are right they’re fun to watch.
As a baseball fan I agree
If those guys start clicking… that will be a dangerous Tigers team. Coming from a Mariners fan.
I agree, it's so frustrating because they both could be great players but we just watch them struggle game after game.
I would say this makes sense, but swinging full force 100% effort at pitches 2 feet outside the zone does not happen cause of a back injury 😂
I’m confident personally that Tork is getting back on track in Toledo. Javy I’m not as certain with.
He has so much movement in his load. If he cut down on chasing out of the zone and quieted his hands before swinging, he would be much better off
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take"
-Wayne Gretzky
Before the video even got to how long his swing was I was thinking to myself "Damn, his swing is long af". If he could adjust his mechanics to have a more compact swing along with keeping his bat speed, he'd be in a better spot. Instead he just keeps going up there and daddy hacking
Seems like he playing poorly because he doesn't care, and maybe he doesn't care because he's unhappy. Last time I seen him happy was with the Mets with Lindoor and with team PR. shrug who knows for sure.
Man, its that one guy from Signs all over again
Side topic, was playing rec room baseball and someone started swinging at everything. 15 people including me started chanting “Take a pitch, stupid b!” and “Let’s go Baez, let’s go!”
As a Mets fan who wanted to resign him, my god we dodged a bullet (and now I feel dumb) 😂
Baez is just me in MLB the Show
It was easy to find him good on the cubs because rizzo, Bryant, zorbrist and fowler never struck out. You can hide the ks when the other hitters give you such great at bats.
Dude his swing looks hard as shit lol idk if it's just me but it looks like one of the strongest swings I ever noticed
His career was over a long time ago.
I feel like teams are going to have so much hesitation signing players to long term deals anymore that players wont be signed until before spring training and have to take shorter deal like we saw this past offseason
Tigers need to DFA Javy. They are literally better without him there.
He's always been a great fielder with good home run power who refuses to adjust his approach, hence, his failures now. You can only skate by on talent for so long. He got the bag though.
Does he need glasses?! Only half joking, a vision problem could explain why he makes so many seemingly clueless swings
Man…I forget the play…but there was a CB for the Redskins that couldn’t catch an interception to save his life. He ended up going to the chargers, where a coach had him get his vision checked on a whim. One laser eye surgery later and he was near the top of the league in interceptions.
So you never know.
I have to believe teams give their players regular eye exams to head off potential issues, since vision is the most important thing for a hitter. But if it's just a basic vision test, it might not pick up more subtle problems like with spatial acuity. But something is obviously wrong with him, physical or mental.
Im a cubs fan and i remember saying “if we only keep one (bryant, rizzo, or baez), i want them to keep baez.” Glad im not making decisions lol
The Eric Sim of the MLB
What baffles me is how much better his hitting stats are with RISP. Its such a strange anomaly
i would give this video a thumbs up, but baez would probably swing at my cursor moving across the screen.
As a Tigers fan….. never mind 😡😤
Baez is just all of our RTTS players
He was going off in the wbc.
He swings with his ego.
He swings like there’s a strikeout quota he needs to hit in order to earn his full salary
Pure genius
@@steviehandsome4712 no.
Baez could be so good still. His batting average when there are RISP is nearly .400. That just shows he still can get hits if he wants to focus
He got the bag. That's what happened.
"I paid for the full at bat"
"Imma swing during the whole at bat"
2:43 “doesn’t strike out much” um, are we watching the same games?
8:01 sits on the toilet is crazyyyyyyyyy
Actually, hard to believe as it may be, Javy’s issue is that he’s not swinging ENOUGH. For how bad he is, he has over a .300 batting average with RISP this year as well as last year. Javy has actually been swinging less every year since he’s been in Detroit. Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press did some statistical research and found that Javy’s swing % with RISP is just as high if not higher than it was pre-2022. Detroit’s coaches have tried to make javy more selective because he’s such a free swinger, but being selective was never what made him so good. He’s always had terrible pitch recognition, but swinging at everything lead to more hits regardless of how much he struck out. He is too conscious of his approach. He is too in his head. Evan Petzold told him this in an interview and Javy said he was not aware of those statistics but that it was interesting to him. I blame the Tigers hitting coaches.
Yea it’s totally the hitting coaches fault 🤡
Well this also explains to me what is going on with julio Rodriguez right now
He’s always swing at everything. He was able to make it work. But problem is as soon as that bat speed drops just a tad now he can’t make up for bad plate discipline
Some guys get the big contract and lose all focus and desire.
He always had this issue even before the big contract. Those elite run production numbers he put up with the 2021 Mets look like an outlier sadly.
7:42 After seeing half a video of Baez swings and misses it feels like Bobby's waiting an eternity to swing at those outside pitches. Way more compact of a swing than Baez
I remember Ichiro getting a hit off the ball that bounced in the dirt
Bro this is me
I was down town and bumped into Biaz and spilled his drink on him he asked if i wanted to go and he swung at me a struckout
Pitchers realized that they didn't ever have to throw Baez a strike and he never adjusted. I'm actually surprised Detroit hasn't bought out his contract. He's actively hurting a competitive team.
All of his early success had to do with his top of the league ability to make good contact on balls out of the zone due to extremely good plate coverage and top bat speed. Bat speed drops with age and has to be compensated with discipline and getting pitches in hot zones, throw in the fact that pitchers throw measurably harder in 2024 than in 2015 and it is a recipe for disaster.
But Micah Parsons an NFL player thinks he can hit .200 in a season. Which I believe isn’t possible. But you look at Baez a major league hitter that barely toes the line. Good video
I finally caved and released him off my dynasty keeper league. If was much overdue but still a tough double click of the mouse that day. RIP to the waivers…..
He should have stayed with the Mets if it was an option cause his numbers then were actually really good
He's just another example of why contracts should be INCENTIVE based
this video has already been made so many times
Baez swings like me in The Show 🤦🏾♂️
The Scott Harris Methodology doesn't seem to be helping him either, as yes, hes striking out less, but hes making weaker contact than ever before. He lets the first pitch go, and as a free swinger, sometimes thats the best pitch you see, so no he falls behind in the count, the pitcher gets in his head and it's all over.
He's no where near as muscular as he was in Chi. Figure it out .
Does Baez smile because he hits well or does he hit well because he's smiling? why not go up there there with a forced smile on his face? what could it hurt? nothing else seems to be working.
Man everyone thought back in the 2021 offseason thought that Correa to Detroit was gonna happen and instead get jabroni baez
Im not even joking, it’s because he’s genuinely high at the plate
If a player has a negative WAR, but is not replaced, then is the stat correct?
The future Julio Rodriguez
He isn't intentionally swinging at balls, he probably just can't pick up the spin (anymore).
He should take ever pitch until he gets 2 strikes. He would walk 50% of the time
supposedly that's what Trout did all through the minor leagues
This is my least favorite player in Tigers history. Yeah he sucks, and even worse he doesn’t care. He’s on his own program, doesn’t listen to anybody. Doesn’t make adjustments, same approach every at bat. Tigers just DFA him and cut our losses.
I think at least part of the problem is that because he's playing g half his games at cavernous Comerica Park, he's overcompensating to swing further for the fences. At least that's my takeaway.
They should rename him Christopher Morel.
he was infuriating the last couple years on the cubs and i was so happy when he was no longer on the team
Could the Tigers send him down to AAA to work on how to hit a ball?
Can a DH hit for a shortstop while the pitcher still bats?
Hey now, at least Corbin helped us one year to win the Seroes.
Thank god the Mets did not give this absolute waste of space money. I wish they hadn't given up a prospect to get him in the first place one of the worst trades in team history.
I hope not but we might have another Baez situation in Christopher Morel. Ugh
Make this video about Nick Castellanos
He’d fit right in with the Cardinals.
At this point, the Cubs should grab him at a cheap price and let him rebuild himself in AAA
javy struck out at a higher rate with the cubs than he ever has with the tigers, (his past few seasons have the lowest K% of his career) and he doesn't chase as much for the tigers either. the issue is that with the cubs he managed to have an elite barrel rate despite chasing so much. he could barrel literally anything, and he played like it. but now? he doesn't play with the same confidence. he's found himself in a middle ground where he doesn't chase as much, but lost his ability to barrel the ball and punish hittable pitches. the issue isn't that he swings at everything, the problem is that he lost confidence in his ability to hit any pitch thrown at him.
So basically, I'm just like him at the plate when I play the show
Super long swing... got to get it going alot sooner!
I hope Tigers hitting coaches are watching this
This guy is such a huge drag on our budget here in Detroit, can't stand this guy.....
