For those who may not know, Amira learned this aria listening to TH-cam videos. Believe it or not, at the time she won Hollands Got Talent, she had never had singing lessons. Andre heard this "unbelievable" kid on the recommendation of members of his orchestra and brought her to perform here.
Amira Willighagen just celebrated her 20th birthday on March 27th with her family at Potchefstroom, South Africa. She is currently in her first year of studies at the University of Pretoria and of course majoring in music.

If you watch many of the older people that are there listening to this, you can realize why they're brought to tears. For many of them have seen War, pestilence, destruction and have gone through hell. And here, to hear the voice of an angel through the gift of God in a child, is overwhelming and a beautifully moving experience.

Yes, whether it was the composition of the song or her angelic voice, as soon as she started singing I got emotional. I can honestly say it was a first for me with regards to music. Reminds me of the video of the baby who cried as a reaction to its mom singing.
This girl is a gift from god. There is no other explanation for why a 10 year old girl can sing like this. I feel so blessed to get to hear her share her god given talents on you tube.

When I was her age, 10 years old, I tied my shoe laces on my own for the first time. My mother was so proud of me, she gave chocolate bars to all the kids in the neighborhood.

So everyone, understandably, is praising Amira's singing. And I get that - it's one of my favourite performances of my all-time favourite aria. But can we just watch how good André Rieu is as a conductor? He's letting Amira set the pace, listening, watching and anticipating her singing, and conducting the orchestra accordingly. That's some serious conductor skills.
Absolutely, there is no doubt that he is simply the very best in the world .... EVER! He brings out the very best in everybody! There will never be another like him! I just adore how he gives such young people these great opportunities!
There's something about this 10 year old that has the confidence to walk out onto a stage such as this with a full orchestre behind her, a maestro like Andre Rieu beside her, an audience as large as this one in front of her and then to turn in a performance that brings the crowd and the orchestre to their feet!

If Andre checks up her most recent performance she definitely will not be invited again, the performance was a total mess. She sang flat, squeezed sharp high notes, off beat, poor diction. Only her last note was acceptable.

I don't understand how this is possible. Tiny lungs, underdeveloped vocal chords... and yet the most perfect performance of one of the most technically difficult songs in the operatic repertoire. Not mimicry, a genuine and sincere individualistic interpretation that requires the rawest of emotions and an emotional intelligence to turn that into music. I don't understand this... autism? Prodigious talent on the level of Mozart? Just an absurd rarity in a world of 7 billion people. Humbled by this. Genuinely humbled and absorbed. What an experience. Thank you.

I first saw Amira in her first appearance on Holland's Got Talent (with English subtitles) when she was 9. It was there that I learned she taught herself and never had singing lessons. She is not only awesome, she is addictive. Once you watch, you will come back again and again. She is truly an Angel.
Indeed you will come back, and boy, she is addictive! However, her first audition was on August 31, 2013; Andre Rieu saw that video and invited her to a "Master class" , which took place on December 7, 2013 - i.e. before the semi-finals and finals of HGT. She got a vocal coach after she had won HGT, and recorded her first album in February 2014, and this performance with Andre was on 11/12 July, 2014. So the "never" applies only to her first audition for HGT. She has had a number of vocal coaches since, and still communicates with her second Dutch coach by Skype.

I have seen this Amira's performance at least 100 times and each time I cry lika a baby ( and I am 72 years old). I still watch this almost daily. There is so little to counteract the fears and anxieties and negativity swirling around us all in these dark times, but this... this is my bright spot. If you didn't know that a star was born in Holland's Got Talent, you knew it with this masterfully rare performance. For such a small child to sing like a full grown world class soprano opera star simply defies comprehension. The audience sat there in total disbelief and hence, the tears began to flow uncontrollably. They strongly sensed that they were witnessing something very, very rare indeed and it just moved them to tears, as well it should have. Very few people have ever beheld something of this magnitude in their lifetimes. Oh how fortunate they were that day.

If you watch many of the older people that are there listening to this, you can realize why they're brought to tears. For many of them have seen War, pestilence, destruction and have gone through hell. And here, to hear the voice of an angel through the gift of God in a child, is overwhelming and a beautifully moving experience.

I remember years ago I was amazed by Amira's amazing performance. It remains as one of my favorites years later. However "O Mio Babbino Caro" is from the opera Gianni Schicchi by Puccini not from Madame Butterfly.
When I was her age, 10 years old, I tied my shoe laces on my own for the first time. My mother was so proud of me, she gave chocolate bars to all the kids in the neighborhood.

But can we just watch how good André Rieu is as a conductor? He's letting Amira set the pace, listening, watching and anticipating her singing, and conducting the orchestra accordingly. That's some serious conductor skills.
Absolutely, there is no doubt that he is simply the very best in the world .... EVER! He brings out the very best in everybody! There will never be another like him! I just adore how he gives such young people these great opportunities!

Ever since I saw Amira sing for the first time.....I was astounded. Even though at the time I was not familiar with opera, period. She has opened up a whole new world for me. If Andre checks up her most recent performance she definitely will not be invited again, the performance was a total mess. She sang flat, squeezed sharp high notes, off beat, poor diction. Only her last note was acceptable.

I don't understand how this is possible. Tiny lungs, underdeveloped vocal chords... and yet the most perfect performance of one of the most technically difficult songs in the operatic repertoire. Not mimicry, a genuine and sincere individualistic interpretation that requires the rawest of emotions and an emotional intelligence to turn that into music. I don't understand this... autism? Prodigious talent on the level of Mozart? Just an absurd rarity in a world of 7 billion people. Humbled by this. Genuinely humbled and absorbed. What an experience. Thank you.

I first saw Amira in her first appearance on Holland's Got Talent (with English subtitles) when she was 9. It was there that I learned she taught herself and never had singing lessons. She is not only awesome, she is addictive. Once you watch, you will come back again and again. She is truly an Angel.
Indeed you will come back, and boy, she is addictive! However, her first audition was on August 31, 2013; Andre Rieu saw that video and invited her to a "Master class" , which took place on December 7, 2013 - i.e. before the semi-finals and finals of HGT. She got a vocal coach after she had won HGT, and recorded her first album in February 2014, and this performance with Andre was on 11/12 July, 2014. So the "never" applies only to her first audition for HGT. She has had a number of vocal coaches since, and still communicates with her second Dutch coach by Skype.
@@dafyddllewellyn6636 I was aware that she had singing coaches later and was referring to her first audition. It wasn't until I saw that first audition with English subtitles that I knew she had been self taught. at age 9. I had seen it before without subtitles.

I came across this video and couldn't believe what I was witnessing. This is a miracle of God. Amira, oh my goodness, I've never heard a voice like yours, and your poise and stage presence are nothing short of perfection! How amazing is the performance! The audience is great too, the sparkle in their eyes, the kindness in everyone's eyes both on and off stage, just like a fairy tale. I am completely speechless. This young ladies voice is young but so beautiful and refined. When you see grown men cry at your singing you've definitely moved your audience!
If you didn't know that a star was born in Holland's Got Talent, you knew it with this masterfully rare performance. For such a small child to sing like a full grown world class soprano opera star simply defies comprehension. The audience sat there in total disbelief and hence, the tears began to flow uncontrollably. They strongly sensed that they were witnessing something very, very rare indeed and it just moved them to tears, as well it should have. Very few people have ever beheld something of this magnitude in their lifetimes. Oh how fortunate they were that day.
