While grieving my dad , I found this beautiful song. My parents are from Romania - I was born in the United States of America. We have this instrument at home and occasionally he would blow into it a melody. He loved playing instruments and loved listening to beautiful melodies. This piece brought tears - I cried. I'm not sure if he ever heard this but in my heart, I know he would have loved it as much as I do.

We call it the Romanian Nai. It’s one of my favourite and the Caval Flute .Romania has many beautiful traditions and customs. When I was little my mom used to make me dance Paparuda to make it rain when it was dry. So many beautiful memories keeping our traditions and then I moved abroad and miss every single day Romania.

Churra hermosas notas, pero me parece q el señor d la zampoña , nunca a soplado ese instrumento. Lo se en la forma d sus mejillas y sus labios. Ademas nunca un instrumento en vivo va a sonar tan limpio como en una grabacion , y esta es una grabacion.

I am 61 years old and I remember Mr. George Zamfir when I was at student at Seneca college. We went on a field trip to Wards Island in Toronto and I said to my friend, " I hear this beautiful flute music, where is it coming from?" I followed the sound and came to a fence and WOW WEE, there it was, a dream come true. God Bless George Zamfir. I love your music.

I am from Pakistan and 47 year man. I listen this beautiful performance in my childhood. I mean in late 80s. When I was just 10 year old. But this performance is still in memories. Music has no boundary and language its multi lingual represting all segment of the society at same time with same feeling. Hence it is very Spectacular & heart touching indeed.

It makes me feel happy and sad at the same time, because of Gheorhe Zamfir... The guy is 82 years old, a few steps closer to the death and this piece of art won't be the same without him.

The melody is a creation of James Last and James Last had the idea to let his "Shepherd Theme" play with the pan flute when Zamfir performed in Hamburg in 1977, even if Gheorghe Zamfir made the instrumental piece world famous for his brilliant interpretation of the pan flute part.
As a single tear, flows down my cheek. I imagine God listening to this masterpiece from his throne. ✨️

@@goned_goose2950 Two reasons: he's not Romanian to play the traditional songs with the heart of the ancestors in his chest, and he's not as experienced as Zamfir. Two generations, each one with his own soul. One does not have to exclude the other but Zamfir's songs have been played in movies and around the world, live.

This was in Bucharest, in front of the Palace of Parliament, a egomaniacal monument of Ceaușescu. In March 1982, Zamfir was exiled by Ceaușescu, who told him never to return or he would be murdered because he'd dedicated a concert to God.
So you see, this moment, getting to play such a triumphant performance with an orchestra of phenomenal musicianship in front of the Romanian people, as an afront to Ceaușescu's monument (which forcibly relocated 40,000 people and killed hundreds during its construction) - this moment has added emotional depth for both Zamfir and the audience.
