I probably would have thought it was one of the coolest cars ever back in 2002. It's kinda sad that people put so much money and effort into making their cars look cool back in the day, but now they're the but of people's jokes because early 2000's tuning aged like milk.

I owned a 1987 Cutlass Ciera 2 door with a 3.8. It was super reliable and for what it was it had some balls.
Those things definitely had some guts under the hood. Even the Regal coupes with it are surprisingly quick for a 90s Buick

The best first car (or car for anyone that needs a cheap reliable daily) is anything with the Buick 3800. Comfortable, reliable and enough go to not make you feel like you need more power to keep up with traffic
It's a shame more people don't appreciate sofa Buicks, and nowadays they're disappearing like crazy
@@snownd675 best part is it's not limited to sofa Buicks. The grand prix, Impala, and Monte Carlo came with them (along with a bunch of Buicks and of course the firebird and Camaro base models)

I had an 03 Regal as my first car with 160,000 miles on it, I ran it into the ground with just over 270 on the dash. Ran great with no problems except for a minor or radiator hose leak that was literally a $15 fix and honestly could’ve been free if I went to a junkyard. Wish more people know about these things they make for excellent first cars.

Cutlass Ciera is a tank, I had a decent condition 1994 I drove from 2011 - 2016 and the lady that I sold it to is still driving it in 2023.
Can confirm the tanking ability of a cutlass ciera have a 96 as my daily and slid it into a ditch at 70 last winter then just drove it out like nothing just happened would recommend as a first car for anybody

Feed got T-boned by a Jeep. I've had three cars totalled by Jeep drivers t-boning and rear-ending me. Jeeps found at fault each time, guy tried saying the brakes of his 2019 Grand Cherokee "locked up" one time.
It was an XJ, blew through a stop sign directly into me, tried to come in through the passenger window

@@SchmoersThe Commanders are not terribly good cars. Can't speak for the bigger engines, but the 3.7L sucks and the transmission is poorly engineered. Unreliable, inefficient, and slow enough I'd be scared of highways with short ramps.

that crossfire reminds me of the one my uncle had. he had a light-up hula girl on the dash and he claimed it gave him like 50 more horsepower somehow. sadly no skull tailpipes though.
The irony is that the guys that drive those Pontiacs think those gauges are cool and futuristic, the type of guys that wear cigarette themed jackets and have wrap mirrored sunglasses. Possibly an old nascar or nhra tee shirt. They secretly wish it was a trans am though.
That last gen GP was huuuuge in rental cars. Base ones, base with heated leather, GT Supercharged with the 260 hp 3800S3, and even plenty of the GXP V8s. In person that steering wheel is massive and the speedometer is as big as a dinner plate. And they have more dash vents than pretty much any other car. They actually had pretty good suspension tuning. Owner neglect and Dexcool took them all out.
The PT Cruiser has a bad head gasket. Massive failure rate on the 2.4. Piston compression went into the cooling system and blew the weakest part on the radiator 100%. It needs an engine. And also, look at it.

Oldsmobile Cutlass ciera was my first car. Great power with the v6. The grey ghost couldn't be stopped even in heavy snow, and you can't beat a 6 seater sedan as a high school kid who needs to haul your friends around.

14:18 That this is weird. I think its based on a Lada Vaz frame...The frame of the window on the driver door is a Lada 2102, welded to...something home made. The rear window is the rear door window of a Renault 4 (that I am 100 percent sure of, about the only thing I am sure of that thing)

More info! THe bottom skin of the door is also Renault 4, but the later Furgonette version ( a closed cab 2 door delivery thing, like the Ford Transit thing). The door handle is not original, as is the window frame and glass. The inside of the door is not from the R4 though (since it has opening glass, woooo)
I particularly like the raising blocks in the rear. That sucker is body on frame! with a raised body lol. The more I look, the more I realize this was a project where lots of hammers were involved and a metric ton of vodka. Impressive that it was homologated and registered!

When I was in NZ every ones first car was a 4 door Skyline as they're common as the roaches, otherwise the bogans had AU Falcons and 3800 Buick powered Commodores and they instantly put the straight pipes on them, otherwise we just bought $500 Toyota Starlets (if you had the $ you got the Glanza), 80's/90's Preludes. I managed to get a 89 Fiat Uno 5 speed stick for $250 fully road legal for my very first car.
Those Grand Prix's are great first cars i used to own one with 230,000 miles it got rear ended by a box truck at a red light and the car took the hit like a champ but it was totaled.
I had an 04 grand am for my first car & ya absolute high-mileage warrior & somehow took all the abuse I threw at it when I was automotive illiterate, fucking tanks they were & they all had the same fate which was they were absolutely run into the ground lmao

Ill give it to you on honest feeling on the Cutlass Cruiser. I had a 86 Cutlass i bought off my uncle for $400 dollars. It was my first car. No ac, no radio, and it leaked everywhere but the times i had in it i wouldnt trade for anything. Sadly it never actually died until a tree randomly crushed it during a freak windstorm and i had to junk it. I still think about buying another just for kicks.
Recently, I was kinda down on myself for cashing out on some stocks too early, and missing out on additional gains. Then I saw that Viper. I no longer regret a single financial decision I've ever made in my entire life.

Cutlass Cieras are awesome. Been looking for a 4.3 diesel wagon that is in good shape for the past 10 years at this point, they are so rare. The only ones I've found are 3 that have been sitting for 20 years and they will only sell all 3 together for 3500. Missed a Celebrity with the 4.3 diesel which I have been kicking myself for since 2018. Still looking for a Pontiac 6000 with a 4.3 and manual transmission. Or a 79 Cutlass with a 260 diesel. I have had 5 of the 5.7 diesels so far, both pencil and poppet injector, but no 4.3 or 260. My friend has an 82 Toronado 5.7 diesel, it has 500,000 miles on it at this point and still runs perfectly.
One of my first cars was 90s Dodge Dakota with a cab and a half. I bought it for $300 from a relative who bought it from a police auction and used it for their business. Thing was originally red on the outside with a brown interior. Someone had repainted the whole car with black rhino liner. The inside had gotten a blue felt headliner with skills and lightning bolts, the interior trim pieces all got painted lightning with blue skulls as well. Total piece of shit lmao, it lasted me a while though.
