The Z32 Nissan 300ZX, Twin Turbo or NA, is the only 90s JDM halo car left that hasn't skyrocketed in value yet, but it's coming. Before too long, you won't be able to buy a 300ZX. Think of it like a 240SX that went to college: same layout, more engine, more turbos, more money? Maybe not the last one. These seem like a good deal so get one before it's too late. Today we scour Facebook Marketplace for Z32s and it goes pretty much how you expect.
Sincere preemptive apologies for confusing the J-spec front bumper with the Stillen bumper
But dude! The Lamborghini Diablo headlight conversion tho!!
I'm trying my best to find a car like this ! they look nice !
Lol it's all good. Funny enough there wasn't a single stillen bumper on any of these. Either jspec or a greddy gracer rep bumper.
@@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS correct, I believe the confusion may be because the 25th anniversary smz edition had a stillen front valance/lip over the pre facelift front bar
@@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS or wings west knock offs... pretty sure one of them was a crappy knock off. Looked extra bulgy on the front area. The one guy even mentioned it though I dont think the other two noticed what he was sayin.
Let's keep the 300zx on the downlow, I'd like one before the price potentially goes up
This whole channel is on the downlow, your secret is safe with us
Doubt the prices will skyrocket, the reputation of being a pita to work on coupled with no movie hero car like the supra and eclipse gsx had or can't have rep the gtr had means this will age like the 3000gt, cheap and likely dogged by kiddos.
@@jonf2009 Well the Bride did use a 300ZX to transport the limbless body of her enemy to the hospital in Kill Bill, but it was a short scene
These will stay low because they are the most annoying car to work on, honestly if i ever got one first thing im doing is a engine swap
@@excalibur2038 that's what I planned to do when I was looking at a z31. They're cool, but I'd like them more if they came with an i6 instead
The 300 with the LS at 32:00 is a guy ive talked to personally, he keeps the car turned down at 480 for normal driving but turns the psi up and makes 900whp easily. He was banned off of our local drag strip due to how fast it was making it while refusing a roll cage.
Mother of god
@@CollectorCarFeed Yeah car is painted now and the guy who owns it is extremely humble and friendly.
Beautiful S12 man, I miss my 87 SE
JDM cars are just begging for the big American pushrod, every time.
"Ladies actually prefer the four or six, eight is too much, that's what they tell me."
Owners of these have the wildest collection of extensions for their socket sets I have ever seen. These are a nightmare under the hood
I think fear of the engine keeps these cheap, you make up the low price in socket extensions and u joint adapters
I had one for 8+ years...miss that car every day and it never left me stranded. Doing anything other than the most menial jobs on it was a pain in the rear though. I remember having bloodied arms after changing the PCV valves.
As a mechanic that works mainly on post 2000 vehicles I can say my z32 isn't that hard to work on, beats working on nearly any euro
I can attest to that. Yes I have loads of sockets, swivel sockets, flex head ratcheting wrenches, various length allen keys, and currently looking at R.B.R.T tools to replace my impact driver.
I bought two entire sets of socket wrenches after getting this car, and I thought I had enough before. Extension set with two different lengths and a micro set of wrenches that can fit in super tight spaces. And I still skinned my knuckles
Every episode a 350 Z or C-5 Corvette makes more and more sense
The Z32 300ZX was my dream car since I was a kid. Hell, I bought a 240SX as a stopgap back before they are cool. After finally buying the Z I can say it lived up to the hype, as well as the stigma about needing difficult repairs.
The car is an absolute dream to drive. You feel like you're the goddamn protagonist of the road. It's so responsive and eager, while also refined and classy. Most cars like this cost far far more, not that the Z was cheap in its heyday.
Repairs though SUCK. In my experience the car is super reliable, but when even the smallest thing goes, it will be 2x-3x more work (or shop cost) than most cars. For fucks sake, I tried to change the air filter and it ended up being easier to just *swap the intake* to a pop than to reinstall the nightmare of a skin-scraping nose box Nissan demanded!
That said, the car is an absolute beauty and timelessly designed. Even the interior somehow escaped the ugly 90s mess that you'll find in the Supra or the 3000GT. Tasteful. Classy. Minimalistic, but also enthusiastic for the driver to take control. And yes, very roomy and comfortable, even for 6'+ drivers.
There's a reason Car and Driver put this Z on the Top 25 Cars of All Time list... FOR TEN YEARS IN A ROW. Drive one ONCE and you'll understand.
Fix one once... And you'll curse yourself for falling in love for such a demanding machine!
This is all true. I love my 300zx but it's definitely a curse for liking such a needy car.
What's so bad about a 3000gt vr4 interior? It's miles ahead of the Supra. (currently have both)
@@2wheelcobra I agree it's better than the Supra, but I find the instrumentation and knobs very bulky and clunky compared to say Nissan's
@wingspantt that may be true (ive never been in a 300zx to compare) But both my vr4s had well over 100k and everything held up well. I've been down the 300zx rabbit hole the last few days, and I've seen multiple owner videos complaining about those switch pods on both sides of the cluster having issues holding up over time.
Regardless, I do like the 300zx interior a lot. I need to get behind the wheel of one...I'd love to have a nice NA 2+2 t-top car, and LS swap it if the motor ever goes.
Ima watch this in English class
I'm going to**
😏😂😂
@@RichPrivilegedWhiteMaleactually, Mr. RichPriviledgedWhiteMale, it's Ima, which is short for "I'm going to."
@@adrianbraga-de3ubthis is why he needs to stay in English class. Hard to afford nice cars when you work at Walmart.
So the reason the slicktop (or "hardtop") twin turbo automic car would be worth purchasing as a RHD is because they never offered slicktop twin turbo cars outside of Japan. In North America the slicktops were only ever NA cars. Also in Japan most of the twin turbos made were 2+2, but all twin turbo's in America were short wheelbase cars. All slicktops regardless of region or engine aspiration were short wheelbase cars. The only way you can get a LHD slicktop twin turbo would be a Na-t build or a full twin turbo swap.
Also the guys asking in the 30's aren't dreamers, depending on the spec and milage it's very realistic!
The regional marketing team was on some drugs putting this line up together and it shows
@@BigNobody-2020 Ya they made weird choices for the trims in different regions, focus group data I'm sure but definitely seems unnecessary and convoluted.
Pearl white is such a gorgeous color, My first gen Acura Tsx is Pearl white and I love it
Just picked up a 300ZX Z32 TT auto for $6500 AUD with 130,000km.. an absolute steal. I think the Z32's are the next JDM car to go up tbh
wtf where
@@feihnbuckland7011the fact he said AUD wasn't a clue to you????
My buddy had one of these (manual, NA + 0) and he said it drove great when it wasn’t in the shop for wiring or brake line issues
How old was the car while he had it?
I know a guy who spent a year fixing up his manual NA Z32. He mentioned wiring issues repeatedly, but he fixed those himself IIRC
Yea you dont want it cheap but you will once prices double or triple. Got my 93 TTz 13 yrs ago for 5k. Nicely modded over the yrs. It gets crazy attention whenever it is out on public
Zs are deceptively easy to work on. They’re expensive compared to when I bought mine but they’re definitely a higher quality chassis and ride than a 240. All down to preference but I would definitely not be first in line to say S chassis are worth the money. Like y’all said, may not be your cup of tea but it REALLY is mine hahaha cheers boys
watching this the night before heading out to get a decent one off the marketplace, gonna sleep like a baby
These are really starting to get expensive. Congrats to anyone who got one 5+ years ago.
Looking forward to getting a JISMO sticker, I caught my 1st livestream last night. One suggestion for a future video if I may: take a peek at northstar Cadillac's or other GM garbage that had that engine from that era, I'm sure you'd find plenty of piles. Love the content!
I love the Z32 Platform, hence why i bought one and started a channel. and cheap prices can be had as long as your willing to turn a wrench.
N/a vg30s are so fun to drive with a manual transmission
18k is fair for a hardtop TT car. even if it's auto. hardtop TT is very rare
If lhd yes
No its not lol
4 years back they were impossible to get rid of... now everyone wants one.... the price will never stay low. One already sold on bring a trailer for 130,000$
I just bought a mint 1991 twin turbo with 52k miles, babied and garage kept for 24k. Left hand drive. The cherry ones going tt going anywhere from 22-30k. Big things with these is the timing belt service, costs between 2500-3500 every 60k/6yr
Had this 1991 300zx car for 8 years, NA 2+2. Fix all it's idling and electrical issues, and still phuck me in the end. It's one step above the RX8.
Bought an 86 Z31 manual 5 speed for just over $2,000 about two weeks ago. To be fair it has 160K miles and issues with some wiring for the rear lights but I think I got it for a phenomenal price.
I wanna see you guys review 1996 - 2000 Honda Civic 😮😂
The reason why these z-s(z31 as well) are often overlooked is in my opinion the v6. Its just too big of a pain in the ass to maintain also easy to blow them. I really wanted a z31, but the v6 just turned me off.
Yes, they're not the most reliable plus they're heavy ass anchors. I'd love to SR swap one
Owning one of these means not driving it if it’s 95 or hotter outside 😂 It’s very euro like technically compared to a Toyotas truck V6s crammed in a Camry or ES. Nissan fan, but, yikes
vg30 are super reliable lmao where did you get youre info from. they have a warehouse of them since they never had to replace that much
@@iOldFasionGamer you mean, they can easily be fixed after the headgasket goes. Just because it doesn’t blow up doesn’t make it “rELiAbLe”
@@iOldFasionGamer who wants to spend top dollar on a new engine that cant handle heat and will eat itself up. That’s why people band aid the ones that exist, you’ll have problems even if your spent 100k building just the engine
I'll give it this, as I found out years ago, this along with the 3000gt are definitely mechanics cars, meaning you gotta be good at taking things apart, doing deletes, having unorthodox tools you wouldn't need for other cars to get jobs done on this one but I'm the end it's worth it. Either that or you go with 2 options that involve you finding a good z32 specific mechanic. 1, save up money get a really good one so that you can enjoy it for a long while or 2, get one that has simple mechanical issues that can be repaired for less than an arm and leg and then enjoy it.
Shut the he’ll up every single last modded car is a mechanics car
Don't really need more than a socket set with some extensions to do anything on the car.
Great Video.
I miss my 1989 300zx Twin Turbo Swb.
Had many years of fun with it. ❤
I just got a 5spd Z31 turbo for free, loving it so far. I always wanted a Z32 until my cousin got one and I had to help work on it lol. VG30DETT in the Z32 is a tight fit, but try it in a Z31. Lots of engine bay clearance from the 200zr's coming stock with an RB20 in J-pan
I've never gotten to drive the twin turbo model, but my mechanic bought one new in the 90s and said he loved the car to death, but there's virtually no space in the engine bay to work on it. I have been around the NA model both auto and manual and I can say confidently that an NA 2+2 Z32 I would love to daily right now and it's one of my dream cars. They just drive so good and both the Z31 and Z32 were meant to be GT cars so they're actually really comfortable.
It sucks that the NSX/Supra/Skyline/FD are all priced out of range for most people now, but of the remaining affordable 90s JDM halo cars, the Z32 is the winner imo, SVX is a pain to get parts for now and most are the FWD model anyway, and this is anecdotal but every 3000GT/Stealth I've seen has had issues and they multiply exponentially if you try to get any more horsepower/torque out of one. Not gonna lie though if you go back a decade I do think the A70 Supra and FC Turbo 2 if you can find a good one of either is also a great choice for old JDM.
If someone made a "moderately" easy k swap kit for the z...that could be fun.
The Z32 is one of those cars where you just 'casually' pull the engine out of the bay to do any work on it. Good thing about that is that with time you can get faster, and you can have so much more working room, and hell, you can even rebuild the engine while you're at it.
A clean tt 5-speed that wont make you bang your head against the wall to to much is 20k minimum.
I own a 1994. 3000GT with 63,000 miles on it, I would argue if you stay away from the VR4, you get a 3,200 lb fun FWD thing with almost no things that could break, I bought it for 8000 dollars too, don't just look for a single car, I originally was looking for a 1995 Z28 Camaro
I just snagged one of these for a ridiculously low price, about to become my track car. 👌🏼 hard top. It just doesn’t have an engine so it’s getting an RB ❤
I bought my 300zx tt for 11k high miles amazing car its a great Sunday car very fast love the fact that they are so affordable
You guys talk almost as much shit as me and my buddies use to do at car meets back in the day and I love it🤣
That's the goal, we're your virtual car friends 😚
love the new intro frfr
If you like variety I just made five more, hope you like trap metal
Often you’ll hear “the motor in the new Z and Q50/Q60 is a smaller R35 motor (vr30ddtt)” not true, the true successor to the VG30DETT is the R35 powered VR38DETT.
Those who don't understand the z32 can't appreciate it, I own one and I have never regret buying it
I’d love to see a CCF tour
I just want ONE Japanese turbo sports car before they ALL jump up into the "only the rich and retired can afford this" bracket.
I like Zs a lot and turbos are fun but for the money you could get a nice F body and its way cheaper and easier to service and mod.
There were _definitely_ 2+2 300ZXs. These are likely the more desirable cars today (longer wheelbase).
As other, more knowledgeable individuals have pointed out, Twin Turbo 2+2s were only available in Japan (RHD) from factory, so that's definitely worth the clarification presented in the ad.
14:11 nah thats a "Wings West/APC" kit from the 90's. That was never shaved and molded to fit properly.
14:36 yeah but the whole bumper is bubblier than it should be right there is what hes sayin. its "bulgy".. its more than "fix that" the bumper never got finished.
They made 5spd convertibles, just not that many of them. My vert is a factory 5spd.
TIL. Vert production was like 3000ish, any idea how many were manual
@@CollectorCarFeed IIRC less than 1/3 of them were manual, it's hard to find production numbers
Theres one near my house, a 93 NA with 64K miles on it. The place wants 5K flat. He said it runs and drives, just needs new fuel and he replaced the injectors. Its manual so Id have to learn in it. Would it be a good project car? Its not replacing my daily tC2.
Watching this while building my 3d printed RC Drift car
I totally agree with NetGear. Aside from maybe the Testatossa, the 300zx has the sexiest bootie of any car out there.😍🔥
I heard that the reliability/maintenance is a nightmare on these. Especially the TT ones.
shit, now I need to make sure my cars can make long trips.
My guy HATES track builds idk
That Midwest Fur Fest joke was unexpected, but hey here we are now. lol
This is the only JDM car I ever liked❤
btw a hardtop means the B pillar doesn't extend to meet the roof
The dating car analogy was spot on.
The man can make a good analogy
The parking brake comment was on point
I didn't move on an na 5 speed in red with black interior for 2 grand 5 years ago. Pain, so much pain.
I know someone who got a killer deal on one, but the last time I saw it was on TV while a news helicopter was flying over the area as it was one of the worst floods to happen in the area in over 100 years and it was underwater with its lights on :(
The two silver cars didn’t have stillen bumpers. Those are oem bumpers from 1999 z32’s.
Quite a bit of misinformation presented here...
The silver jdm front bumper is a late model 300zx bumper.
Insurance is pretty easy as long as the car has a US title.
Hardtops are common in RHD models... T-Tops are rare from JDM.
Dailying an RHD isn't all that bad, to be honest.
OMG THIS I was so PISSED when I noticed they made a mistake. I hate these guys so much, how can they spread such damaging lies??? Worse than Trump tbh.
I honestly prefer driving my rhd z
UPDATE: As of January 2024 I regret to inform every one that the z32 is quickly and firmly on its way to unobtanium territory.
I saw a clapped out z32 300zx on facebook marketplace a couple years ago that was used as a race car, the guy was actually giving it away for free.
I'm pretty sure the FUD is real. :-) The two tone beige interior is amazing. One of the best you'll find in a car.
hahaha Victorville, my home town, pics are accurate
I have a right hand drive Toyota Soarer. Is not that bad 😂. I go in reverse on fastfood drive thru
If you guys actually do a rolling tour I'll tag along with my dirty gc8
28:30 If the subframes, front and rear, on this car were not rusted out, That alone accounts for 1200 EASILY. Try to find a non rusted subframe for sale, for these cars. Go ahead. Same for the s chassis cars. You can find a drift tube frame one made for more angle and such... but try to find an OEM one worthy of doing the work required to remove and replace one... hens teeth.
too be fair to that one guys gramps here in Ontario Canada low km TT z32s are going for around 80k and high km ones 35k-40k, even the NA's are around 20-25k i was lucky to get mine for 15k with no issues just minor imperfections in the repaint job and some what high km. But even then the ones that are beat to shit are still around the 6-10k mark
3k vr4's are still affordable, y'all should know that since you covered them, which imo you guys(Well most people really) give them more shit than they deserve, I may be biased but they're really slept on cars imo, and they aren't nearly as unreliable as many people suggest, like any old sports car if you buy a good (ie. clean, ie. not basket case hoopdy) they're solid, and if you don't not so much. I routinely drove mine 5 hrs back and forth from md to pa for 2 years, only issues I had we're due to PO driving it in NY winters, blew out a brake line on one trip, and a heat shield fell half way off on another, not a single issue otherwise on those trips. That said they aren't faultless, lifter tick and caved oil pans from TB changes causing spun bearings are the 2 biggest issues imo, but both fairly easily remedied/prevented. In stark contrast to my shitbox DSM, but I knew exactly what I was getting into there and to me it is worth it since the shell was mint and it had a 6 bolt in it. Honestly I've always been surprised the 300z's are going for more, but maybe that's bc they have a much longer lineage, that still spans to current day. In any case, both cars are the redheaded step childs of the halo cars. R34's are cool and all, but onobtanium, back when I got into cars and wanted a JDM I wanted one of them more. But it can't hold a candle to 3k in looks or price, and even modded the r34 will take the lead, but the fastest 3k's aren't all that far off imo, and I suspect it's more to due with the fact that there just aren't many people pushing the limits of the 3k and the 6g72, that said I'm shooting for at least 600 to wheels, maybe close to 1k depending on how brave I get and what the turbos I have in mind will be up for, they're good for 1120 on paper. Should be finally getting her back from body and paint in spring or early summer. Buying all my parts for the build before I start it for once, because I don't want it in pieces for half a decade, hoping to start the build in 2-5 years, still gotta get a donor engine(engine in it is fine, but again I want to cut downtime), internals, turbos and a trans build, have most of the rest of what I need. On a side note, if you guys happen to read this whole comment, it's certainly entertaining to see all the basket cases on the marketplace, but you guys might consider showing what a given car CAN be, when actually taken care of and or modded tastefully and not on a shoestring budget. We all know the basket cases are rarely worth it, but the alternatives are in scarce supply these days.
people who don't know about the vr4 say the stupidest things. They are very reliable cars and many go on to be very high mileage trouble-free cars.
I'm glad they have a bad rep and are slept on.
The 1990 in Berryville AR was my car!!!!
Insuring RHD is the same exact process as LHD. I have GEICO pay 120$ a month full coverage jzx100.
You need to have a roaming meet, and have a stage where you drive cars up that you pick in the meet and just roast um. CCF Traveling Roast Meet
Have yall done a video on the first generation mitsubishi eclipse?
I hat I have always heard about the 300z is it’s heavy for it’s size and then the electronics are trash when it’s sat in Texas heat.
CCF fest in OKC? I’m there!
Theres also the literal Porsche engined Giugiaro design i would say qualifies as JDM Halo but even more people forget that one, and its not one of the Wangan classics so doesn't qualify the same outside of its Halo status. Drove one once and it was one of the most engaging high comfort cars i've driven, maybe R32 Golf was similar, really liked it but practically every single one has bricked transmissions these days. After shopping for a few as a daily the interior has to be right, most the cheaper fwd SVX have terrible multi grey shaded interior but when the design works and is amazing only seems to show in Beige and woody shades of up scale models, the common super cheap grey shaded one just looks old, cheesy even in grey velour.
I still have a scar on my forearm from doing downpipes in my Z32. Tightest and worst engine bay ever. Sold it LOL

17:30 bruther i drove a 300k mile xj, it sketches me out even driving to work
My 93 turbo with 70k miles was 13k shipped and with import fees, insurance isn’t any different really.
What hurts it is how much more they sold than the Supras and RX-7s.
I know this is a bit of a reach, but I am thinking of buying a TVR Chimaera or maybe even a Cerbera. I was hoping on getting some opinions from you guys.
Towed one for a lady selling an extremely clean NA one for $10k. 1991. Probably sold by now
back end turbos lagging is not a result of the distance to the turbo. If you know how to do math you can prove this. Someone has on yt. it takes less than a second to send the air up and back to the engine.
1:55 Purely a personal thing. The cars value is the same regardless of side of steering wheel due to it being the same save for that detail. Unlike many other vehicles where the JDM ones come with better stuff, stronger engines, lighter panels... ect ect ect... This one is the red headed step child..... nobody cares one way or the other.. IF you do.. you probably dont care if its right or left.. UNLESS you have a personal preference to one. Being that we are Here... of course YOU would prefer left hand drive.. Were so used to it. Drive thru food and coffee stops are a PITA with RHD.. ect.. But if you are "collecting the car" because you love it and the JDM Hero/Halo goodness... What window you pick your starbucks up in isnt a determining factor.
Also the Red interior... For US... I agree ... Hideous. However. The next generation up, the ones who own Ferraris and lambos... DO LOVE that red interior. Just sayin. Also the first one, you argued RHD ect... then seen 2 nearly identical that SOLD for 18,000...
8:15 Too early... Hes got another 10 year before he can HOPE to ask 100k for it. Even with Canadian exchange rate markup.
I don't know much of these things compared to the S30 and Z31 but any owner I've talked to is like "this is the worst car I have ever wrenched and I have to wrench it CONSTANTLY, ALSO I LOVE DRIVING IT"
My dad had a tt auto 300zx mint condition, he sold it for 2700 dollars when I was about 13 year's old I'll never forgive him for that.
My uncle had this car years ago, I asked him if I should buy one and he said no because they are hard to smog in California 🙃
I got a fully built Z to float and a s13 to scrape the floor
real talk why do you know what Midwest Fur Fest is, what are you trying to tell me?
Making 480 on a boosted LS is much easier than ripping the motor apart to build it cam it and all that to make it N/a. Yeah you can do it but it’s honestly easier to throw a turbo on it and he done and leave the motor stock. Especially if you already have some turbo shit lying around
Not to mention you can always turn it up and make more if you want. Can’t do that N/a
16:09 again with the interior... You are coming from OUR generation saying this but it wouldnt be us buying it. Look at the Ferraris and Lambos and such... that the older gen is buying up right now.. The 2024 Porsche 91 GT3RS..... SAME COLOR BROWN INTERIOR... but its still selling for an obscene price. For us if its not a nice simple black interior we look away... but look past that.
24:20 Again about the brown. I Implore you guys running a "car collector feed" channel to look at some other collector cars that sell for $150,000+ Brown interior becomes MUCH more popular the more the cars cost....
I blame/credit Gran Turismo placing the Skylines "above" Zs as responsible for the latter's lack of appreciation
I WOKE UP IN A NEW BOGATI 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔊🔊🔊🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
My uncle had one of these for a while, I asked him if it was a good car and he said they are hard to smog 😂 killed my dreams quick! “Gotta love California” smh
