Great video Martin, I had a cringe when you talked about the risk of holding the casting in your hand while drilling the post as I managed to drill my finger when a drill bit broke while doing just that. As a result I invested in a small model makers Pillar Drill and (touch wood) have not injured myself or had a post blowout since. With a decent vice they run to about £70, so a considerable investment but much better than the consequences of a serious hand injury. If you are just starting and need something to steady the model one of those bean bags that you can get as a heat pack for sport injuries, they have small ceramic beads inside and mold well to the shape of the model and keep it steady while you drill out the post. You can also get a pillar attachment you can put your hand drill into which are about half the price of the pillar drill.

Thanks Tony for your input its much appreciated, good thinking with the bean bag , I do hope people read the comments because it covers things I didn't and that helps people a lot .

This is a solid Beginner's series, Martin. Useful tips. I remember being intimidated by drilling out rivets when just getting started. I use a hobby size bench vice to hold the castings, to ensure I never drill into my hand! That is either out of safety or fear! 🍁☕

Thank you for doing another lesson. I do tapping on small matchbox but dinky rivots in them. But yes I have all the taps from my days doing a living b.a. taps yes old style and metric taps and dies. When I get a rivot with mushroom being a pain I use a metal scraper 3 corner takes it off nice. Drilling I sometimes use a leather bag with sand in it so it follows the contour's, held solid down metal beaters used them years ago that is how I found out about it. Think I have said enough rubbish. Cheers again yes I did learn more from your vlog today. I don't like spring loaded center punches, but I have loads from as I tell my wife in my previous life that was working life now it's retirement life😁👍. Thanks Martin all the best you you and you Mrs. Bob

Thanks for making this 3rd video in your "how to" series, Martin. I smiled when you said don't drill the rivet posts out too fast, I've ruined a few small drill bits when drilling out the rivet holes. Looking forward to the window unit removal and renovation video, it's something I'd like to improve on. Best wishes. Peter.

An excellent workshop on what is, really, a destructive part of the process (it scares me) but you led us through the steps beautifully. Thanks for sharing your expertise, knowledge and patience. And you did that in one take! Amazing! Looking forward to the rest of the series. Take care, my friend, have a great Christmas and New Year. Jim L

@@martindaredare 😂😂 yes my first product review for Hot Car Track everything was going fine till i tried to assemble the 4 poster hoist put 4 together before the video easy peasy, then i assemble one on camera and it was tight fit, had to cut the video then come back when it was together, anyway great information for people starting out and also others who dont know how to pull them apart so you can still Resto them, cheers mate 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇬🇧🇬🇧😎🙂👍

Part 3 loved it!, thanks for another insight into our amazing hobby, you covered most of the problems we encounter restoring these die casts , rivets have always been a dead give away that a model has been restored next to overspraying and colour mismatch ....there are plenty of suppliers out there but I prefer to make and turn my own....I'll send you some in the post...again, keep up the good work your vids are amazing....thanks for all your good work and time you put into these vids ....be safe and regards to you and yours...
