    Now that’s the way a fire engine should look Martin..I’ve spent 13 years on a fire dept. and spent lots of time polishing chrome and sorting hose..the trucks always fascinate me..you need to park this one in the station with the rest of them..great job...🇨🇦

    Smashing model, what a beauty! Love old fire engines. Dennis made fire engines and refuse trucks and AEC, Leylands and Bedfords are some of my favourites. This model is in fact a Bedford with Miles body, J4 model, I think. Really nice finish with the rich red, just great! You sound like the narrator on 'Under Night Streets' 1958.

    Looks Stunning Martin, your attention to the little details is second to none, great tip for making the pillars using hair clips. Can I ask which paint you use to make your black wash and what you mix it with, it really makes all the difference using that in the front grills, gives it a much more realistic look👌👍
    Another very impressive restoration and a nice clear informative video as always👍😊
    Cheers Martin, take care, all the best to you and your good lady, hope she is doing ok with her recovery, Nick.

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi nick glad you liked it .
      The wash that I use is a tamya panel line wash ,but you can make your own the one I use is enamel based, but you can use an acrylic based one ,enamel is better basically get your enamel thinners and add a few drops of black gloss enamel to it until its like muddy warter you might have to exper a couple of times to get the right thickness.
      Apply to glossy surface just need to touch a small drop to were you want it and it will flow along any resesed lines let it dry and wipe of any over spill with thinner
      You don't need to paint it on like normal paint .
      Try it .
      All the best Martin 👍

    Lovely job Martin, she turned out beautifully. I don't remember this one from my childhood, neither the Dinky, nor the real machines. Most of our fire engines were Bedfords during this period, then ERFs.
    All that chromework makes such a huge difference and, as always, the black wash on the grille is just the cherry on top.👍👌😁

    Hey Martin your getting good at this restoring lark what can I say.... BEEEEEAUTIFUL great casting lots of detail paint work and those window pillars turned out great. I wish I had thought of using hair clips instead of split pins they cost me a fortune lol. About ten years ago we had a drunk driver try to make a u turn in our driveway. Unfortunately his foot slipped and he came flying into our front room just feet from where I would normally sit and watch tv luckily I had just gone to the loo and got the shock of my life when I returned. You should have seen it it was like 9 11 two fire engines an ambulance and two police cars all with flashing lights going. Luckily the damage was repairable finding replacement matching bricks for our 60 year old house was another story. Insurance fixed the damage and re painted the room so all well that ends well.👍 PS all the best to the Mrs my wife Juliet asks me all the time how is she going so let her know she's in our thoughts.

    • @martindaredare

    Another superb restoration Martin, I like the old fire engines, I had a Commer fire engine when I was a little lad. When you make your "how to" videos I'd appreciate if you could explain what the black wash is and how you do it. The result of that grille is awesome. Hope your good lady continues to recover from her surgery. Take care, and best wishes. Peter.

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks peter , if you want you can buy the wash ready mixed tamyia do it and its called panel line wash you can get different colours. Or get a tin of black gloss enamel and thinners and pour out some thinner in a small jar and add a few drops of the paint so you have a muddy warter .
      It's best applied on a gloss surface just put a drop in where you want it you dont need much and it will flow along the reses lines.
      When it drys you can remove over spill with clean thinners.
      Practice that's the best idea on a junk casting.

    Although it is not comparing like with like I wonder how long it took the ladies at Binns Road to paint and construct this model with all new parts for its first period of duty as a toy.

    Hello Martin, I’ve watched you from day one and this is he first time I’ve written to you. What I wanted to know is where do you get the larger wire wheels from? The ones I use you need to wear a flack jacket to use them. Brilliant job as always, love the tips and tricks as well

    • @martindaredare

      Hi Keith you can get the larger wire wheels that go on a small bench grinder from B&Q or similar ,I use the small ones thay are a bit dodgy I get mine of ebay
      You could use a small wire brush and wire wool.
