Excellent video Martin, transit looks absolutely fabulous. I think some of those rear doors were probably distorted or warped when removed from the casting and still warm . My mum worked at dinky on binns Road many years ago and i believe the workers had to assemble them very quickly also i believe in most cases dinky used paper stickers instead of decals for cost reasons 😊

Instead of thinking it's high at the front, why not stick a load in the van and it'll look heavy at the back. The springs on these things usually ended-up like that anyway so, if you've a couple of engine blocks lying around ........
Despite the "factory" flaws, this one turned out great - looks fantastic. Your paint is excellent and the decals finish it off perfectly. I wonder why Dinky made such a pig's ear of the doors, very shoddy work.
I thought the van looked quite interesting as it was. I'm not a big fan of the "patina" look, which everyone seems obsessed with nowadays, but the worn paint and different coloured panels were quite realistic, maybe just a wee bit too scruffy.
I always thought this was a really accurate casting; it captures that Transit shape so well. It makes 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 a difference when the grille area isn't plastic and your detail painting brought it back to life completely. Great work; just a shame Dinky weren't so conscientious.😁

The roof i think should be a little flatter , its a shame thay didn't make the double back wheel version as well ..

Beautifully restored Martin, My Dad had the minibus version that I learned to drive in and I had a pickup truck version with the twin wheels after that which I absolutely loved and by jove you’ve got that detailing just spot on, just as the real thing was 👌I love these dinky model transits, I must try and do one too, I have bought a couple on eBay and when they have arrived they have been far too good to touch!

Hi Martin YAYYYYYY the transit now that brings back a flood of memories. The blue looks great good gloss and nice fix on the back doors. My old transit was green on the bottom and white from window height up when I bought it it was an old Alsco linen van. We latter painted it white with a sign saying "THE BEATMAKERS SHOW BAND" on the side.Ill have to try and get two of these and I would love to do one green and white and the other one white with the band logo. I'll keep an eye on ebey and hope like you to get a job lot. Excellent job mate be safe towing that van and I'll catch ya on the next one.👍

@@martindaredare those original mangled doors, plus the styrene, plus all the sanding and fitting, plus primer and paint equals one undetectable repair. It was perfectly done! You must feel very satisfied with such a fine result!

The blue Kenwood transit are getting quite hard to find.
You can find them on eBay but they are a bit expensive.
They did release one's whith a blue blue roof .
Only the dinky transit Kenwood and the
Dinky transit Hertz van rentals had the red interior..

how to tell if a dinky toys van is a 407, 286 or a 417 as i bought a rear side door and didnt fit and has no model number on the base.

Hi Darren, the 417 is a type 1 ,and the others are a mixture of type 2 and 3 ,the fire engine is definitely a type 2 the best way to get the number is if it's not been overpainted is to put in Google search for example dinky toys ford transit motorway service, click on images and have a scroll through and some will have the number on there .
The back double doors never fit well from new , some replacement side doors might need work to get them to fit I hope this helps 👍
