    These are always really fun to watch, but a suggestion for future impossible climbs. Have 3 riders , ride all bikes, and then compare each bikes results as an average between different riders. I know there are a lot of variables, but multiple people might reduce a “1 slipped rear tire on a random rock” chances

      And randomise the bike order... so the "sessioning" advantage is less pronounced.

      @@technovelodos ya that’s absolutely a benefit / deficit depending on when the bike is ridden. Unless they ride the lines multiple times before on their own personal bike (or ones that’s NOT in the test)

    It's all about Skill, picking the right trail, Strength and power and proper set up of your bike. ITS NOT ABOUT JUST A BIKE.

      I find effective seat tube angle really makes a difference for me. Had been borrowing the mtb saddle for another bike a little while back and somehow put it back on attached as far back as it goes rather than forward then wondered why i was having issues on techy climbs, especially with getting weight forward.

    Thank you for all this Fall field test videos, very interesting ! Apart from this special impossible climb, do you plan to do a complete comparison of one good trail bike vs one good downcountry ? We see that some trail bikes are climbing well, some DC have good capabilities in the downhill, and it's not always easy for us (or at least me :-D ) to "feel" the difference between 2 good bikes of these 2 categories. For instance, if we take a good climber trail bike, is it close to a DC in the climbs, or still far away ? Same question on flats & downhill sections. Thank you for all your work !

    I think also (besides it not really being as much about the bikes, but more about the rider), the earlier bikes on test got an unfair shake since he was learning the course better each go round.

    If the first few bikes are truly blind tests I feel it's not even close to accurate. As only after the first 5 times does he find his preferred line just like any climb you do blind vs sit there and session until you get it. Unless he sessioned the climb many times prior to actually testing..

      well non of these tests are super exact, they are made for entertainment and shouldn't be taken for real. So of course they are not accurate

Maybe in the first day or 2 but after that it's all youtube search of people looking to compare these bikes, and even pinkbike brands it as a "field test" so...

    Maybe a good test would be to do this in stock form & then have all the bikes running the same tire(& wheelset?) to to take that variable out.

      They already run identical control tires, in this case all the downcountry bikes were on XC tires, hence why most of them spun out on the wet rock slab, the trail bikes had the super grippy Assegai/DHR2 combo

    Defenitely a great idea, I guess it's a thing that get's forgotten when looking for a bike. I noticed the Maxxis tires get to the top quite a bit more often, right?

      They were control tyres so all bikes of the same type had the same tyres.

      @@thingswelike they did not all have the same tires. For example, at 3:12 you can see the Canyon had Schwalbe tires.

      All the trail bikes had the same tires and all the xc bikes had the same tires. The two categories aren’t usually combined in the Pinkbike tests but they were in this case.

      @@axelgiuliano I believe (but could be wrong) the Scott spark trail has the same tires as all the xc bikes because the xc category this year was aggressive xc/down country while the trail category was “aggressive trail” or something.

      Steeper seat tubes and longer wheelbases on the trail bikes, so they're less wheelie prone. also the trail bikes had grippier tires.

      @@alexantrn It depends on what you mean by "uphill performance". If you mean fire-roads, thnn no. If your local trails, like mine, have no fire-roads but look like what we saw in the impossible climb, this is peak uphill performance.

      He did at end, longer wheelbase, longer chainstay, stickier tires, more upright seat tube= more traction but slower. If traction wasn't so limited may have been different.

      Tires? Not sure what they were running the same tires on both bikes (doubt it) but tires make the most difference regarding traction.
      Then, as was previously mentioned, the more you session a feature the better you get at it.

    Don't like climbing hills? Want to get in more laps? Get an Ebike! I love my Levo. I ride in eco 90% of the time and get a great workout! I now look forward to climbs.

      Sorry, this shouldn’t be an argument for e bikes. I know they’re legal and cool in Europe but I value the serenity of riding trail without some young rich kid blowing past me on an E bike because he’s just too lazy for a pedal bike

      Well, they are Downcountry bikes of course. If they were good for going uphill they would be Upcountry bikes.
