I love the dark ends too so you are NOT alone. Gives Character!
👍
Thank u so much 👏👏🌹
My pleasure!
Thank you so much for this video I've spent so many hours trying to design and build boxes I'd almost given up. This is a awesome lesson.
Glad I could help David!
I was doing the same now lol
Thank you for this! Also, how can you NOT love the contrast of the dark ends??!!
Some folks edit the file and make the tabs larger to sand them down to the wood Heather. I prefer the burnt edges.
I'm Somebody Now!!!
Thank you so much Rich.
You've always been somebody Bruce! Now you're somebody with a box! 🤪
Brilliant video, and thanks for the pointer to the box calculator........👍🇬🇧👍
No problem 👍 Glad it was helpful Tony!
And here I have been creating my own boxes with trial's and error's and Rich finds a site that has it all in one spot !!! Awesome !!!
Have fun with it James!
Recently bought myself a Kentoktool 10w laser as a hobby. I found your videos on TH-cam they are the most fun, informative and and so easy to follow.
Thanks Tom
Awesome, thank you Tom!
Thanks!
You bet, thank you for the support! 👍
thank you for your time
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Rich, thank you for your channel and your videos. I'm new to lasers and your channel and a few others are my "GO TO" for learning.
Thanks again.
God Bless!!!
Jim
Awesome, thank you!
Rich, I thank you for your vireos, you are doing an excellent job explaining advance settings no one else care to teach. I made my first cube and was able to adapted to my needs thank to your videos.
Awesome, thank you!
It was a success , my very first box and my very first laser project. Thanks
Great 👍 You'll be an expert in no time!
Thank you for sharing the website. The runtime on my laser was 3 minutes 51 seconds. I used 5 mm Revolution Plywood which runs $25.78 for a 4'X8' sheet at Lowes. Surprisingly there is a shortage of 3mm plywood which I ordered a week ago and expect delivery sometime next week. The note holder box went together in 5 minutes. Looking forward to your next project! 😀
Nice work Kent! I usually get mine from a local cabinet maker now. He gets 5x10' sheets of 3mm, 3 ply _Birch "veneer"_ as he calls it. High quality stuff, and his price, including ripping it into 12x12" squares is about 5% cheaper than the big box stores.
I use this site all the time - Great resource. I think your video sent lots of people there and broke it...lol. OK, its back... You are an Influencer Rich!!!
Thanks for the info! Atienne!
Hello, I have watched a lot of your TH-cam videos and became a member of your web forum. I am new to laser (XTool D1) about 3 weeks. Thank you for all of your time and expense in teaching me so much.
Thanks Eddie! We're all learning together!
hi rich, used the same programm to make a new and better cutlery-drawer for our camper. After i made the calibration tests it fitted 100%.Very nice program and super helpful.
Fantastic!
I just happened to find this sight today and then I saw your video. Your video helped me figure out what the "tabs" was used for. I wondered why the plans I made where not totally cut. I actually filled in the tabs one by one now I know I can just choose zero. Thank you for explaining that selection. I know you know this already your videos are very helpful to anyone who takes the time to watch them. Thank you for all your work showing each of your videos. I am certain it takes lots of your time and equally your patience.
Glad you got it fixed Terry!
Rich you keep coming out with one great tutorial after another!! Keep em' coming !! Love you brother!
You got it Ken! Lots more to come!
I got my Xtool a few months ago but, just recently started using LightBurn. This is a good project for me as a beginner.
Have fun Andy!
There's some really useful stuff in boxes.py. It's well worth looking through everything that's available.
Very true! I love the under the cabinet K-Cup holder! I've already made six of these for friends!
Nice project Rich! I Always need a box of some sort to store things in. Thanks for another great video!!
You and me both Gayle! There are all sorts of boxes there!
Thank You so much for adding this video. I played with the app and then modified the post-it note box dimensions to work as a cell phone holder for my Tahoe. Works perfect. Love your videos and forums.
Glad it helped Martin!
Brilliant video Rich many thanks for this and please keep the videos rolling lol
Thanks, will do Paul!
Thank you Rick for another great video!
Very welcome!
Great video and I agree with you I like the dark burnt ends as look effective against the light-looking plywood nice job.
Thanks Malcolm!
I really love your camera work. I could certainly learn a few things from you on getting better camera shots. Well done. I would love to learn some of your techniques. Keep up the good work. You continue to grow fast on TH-cam.
Thanks Paw Paw! Let's get together in May when my schedule frees up if you have time! I'll shoot you an email.
Sounds good. Curious, are you using OBS software to do you videos?
No, I use the same software Hollywood editors use, Davinci Resolve. They pay six figures for it, but for a single user version it's free.
Thank you, I’ll check it out.
When my Yorohome comes I want to try this! You make things look so easy!
It is easy Tom, and lots of fun to do!
Loved this video, very informative. Can see boxes in the house and workshop in the near future.
They even have shelves on the site Peggy! I love the stackable boxes, and I even made my daughter a spice rack! The under the cabinet K-Cup holder is in my sights as well!
Thanks Rich for bringing this to your viewers attention, I've done the flexi heart box, came out great.
Yes! I did one too at 300mm! Came out great Rob!
Very nice video.
Now I will have to make some boxes
Thank you.
Have fun Tony!
Looking forward to the video on the modified fume extractor.
Coming soon!
This is what I was looking for lol, thanks Rich!
Glad to help Kevin!
good job rich just another thing that i have to go try. once again friend another excellent video. i was just in the shop putting together my list for my first craft show. some of these boxes will go great with the ear rings i have making , like a gift box. Keep up the great teaching and i will keep learning. cheers!
Cool, thanks Jim!
Awesome. Thanks Rich.
You bet Tom!
I agree Tom, it is valuable information! Just chiming in account of the Surname...

Must be cousins somewhere along the line. Lol
How about doing a few passes on 1/4" and the adjust the focus down a mm or so and do some more cut passes?
Couldn't do it on this laser Merrill. It's already too close to the wood. Reason I don't like SF lasers.
Awesome video. thanks so much. and something very practical.
Yes David, and so many boxes to choose from!
Looking good, thank you for the tutorial.
No problem Benny 👍
Good video. That box was my first project, the joint tabs are exact, it is easy to make and it is very useful. Best regards
Cool, thanks!
Whaaaaat?? Omgoodness. Thank you so much for this video!
You're so welcome Rayne! 😊
Excellent video. Question how do you adjust the number of fingers joints? Seems like a lot of finger joints for a small box.
It's in the settings for the box generator.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy My question is how do you tell the software the amount of finger joints you want? I made the A Box and it had like 15 finger joints when really all it needed was 5.
Another great video Rich! So glad you made this one, I’ve been wanting to get into making boxes and now I have a starting point. I’m still using the “old” original LM2 but want to step up. Very interested to see the new NEJE 20w when it comes out. Also considering the Xtool when they launch their 20w machine. Thanks as always Rich.
Thanks Mike! Lots of good lasers on the market nowadays!
can you do a video on how to do a burn test for finger joints please.
I have a really long list, but thanks for the suggestion!
Awesome project and video. I’m like you Rich, I love the burnt ends! And they aren’t too bad in BBQ lol
🤪 Thanks!
Thank you! Where do I find the material libraries pls?
On my free forum. Link is in the description.
Great video! Thank you for introducing this method, the site is invaluable as it will save a ton of time!
First time to comment, but will keep watching your vids as usual!
Greetings from Germany

Awesome, thank you Chris!
Thanks for ALL of your videos. Do you have a link to the spike board?

I like your plans. I will see if they will work good on my Laser. I ordered the free puzzle plan Henry
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Wow on the 6 diode laser. Hope it will work on the Ortur LaserMaster 2, not pro. I am sure it needs separate power supply.
The 6W 4-diode laser isn't sold individually as far as I know Merrill. It's a new complete laser on the market.
Hello Rich. I was wondering I you ever tried cutting tempered hardboar with a diode. I have an Ortur Master 3 and am not sure if it will cut it. Thanks
Hardboard is almost impossible to cut on a diode laser Axel.
Amazing content Rich! I’m so glad I found your channel! New sub and glad to be a member of your forum! Thanks for all you do pal! I’m learning a lot! Binge watching here I go!!!!!
Welcome aboard Joe! Go for it! 👍
The laser in this video looks exactly like the one on my Munbyn 10W output laser. The frame holding it is different.
Most diode lasers are basically all the same parts Paul.
Just trying this on my Atomstack A5 M50 Pro, i have downloaded the materials database from the forums, but a little confused when i assign to layer in mine it shows up as speed 2.5mm/m but i noticed on yours it shows up as 250mm/m.
Go to your settings (gear icons) and change from mm/sec to mm/min.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks for quick reply and advice, got it sorted, your videos are really helping me alot with my 1st laser engraver, really appreciated
Awesome video this helps alot. I have a question how would i go about creating my own design? Could i technically pick a pattern Thats close to it and change the shape? Im trying to get something like 4 pieces shaped as a flat top triangle then just a flat top to connect all 4 together. Lol im bad at explaining but something like panda express Chinese to to go box without the lid flaps. Thanks in advance

Great video as always. I'm very interested in seeing how to make a affordable air scrubber.

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Did you have a chance to create a video about an affordable air scrubber by any chance?
If only you could use the laser to create enclosure for itself like this 😄 thanks for another nice video!
🤪 You actually could! With the passthrough and print and cut! Please! No more ideas for videos! 😎
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy well to be honest I am in the process of building enclosure to my co2 laser and the plan was to use the laser itself for it 😄 maybe I do the video for that then.
I'd love to see it Janne!
Hi Rich, i am totaly new to laser engraving and cutting. I bought a used atomstack a5 pro, and your videos have been most helpfull, thank you so much. I would also like cut some birthsday card, do you have some videos on that and what thikness of paper do you think would fit a project. I use Lightburn.
No John, I haven't done paper cards yet, sorry.
This is so cool. Thank you for what you do! I can't wait to get my laser.
Have fun Michael!
I tried this and the finger tabs pushed together but the slots are to small. Should i look at the kerf offset for the slots ?
Did you put in the exact thickness of the wood you were using? This is usually where folks go wrong. You have to actually measure it with a caliper to get the correct thickness. The seller may advertise 3mm wood, but that's a nominal measurement. It could be anywhere from 2.7 to 3.2mm.
In your opinion What is the best laser to purchase for cutting and itching on tumblers? I'm new to this and do not want to make a mistake on purchasing one. The I'm 62 yrs old and need to be doing something. Please advise. Thank you Ron.
A laser is a laser is a laser Ronnie.
I was wondering if you have a method for creating boxes like this from scratch. This is a great resource, but I really like knowing how to do things myself locally without relying on sites that can disappear.
Well it's as easy as draw and weld shapes Derek, but the time this website saves in invaluable.
Nice!
Thank you John! I really needed this!
Good video Rich ! I tried this project and it was hard to put togther. I found that if you change the burn setting from 0.1 to 0.07 it goes together much easier. Now, that setting may not be suitable for everyones laser but I am using the Neje A40640. Nice laser with respectible power for a diode.
Yes Randy, you can use the kerf offset on the layer or slightly defocus the laser, both methods work well!
Hi Rich, could you please post the website for making boxes?
Thanks Tom
In the description, festi.info/boxes.py/
I am just watching your videos because have on order the Roly LM10. But did you know if you peel the bottom page off your sticky notes, it will stick to your box and should not pull out when you peel one off the top.
Thanks for the tip! 👍
Hello Rich, I would really appreciate your input on a project, I’ll be making wooden book markers, my question would be what Font to use to cut out a name and where I can get music symbols to also cut. Thank you John in California
Fonts are a personal choice John. Google images has all kinds of music notes.
where can I get a cutting table like this? Or is it made with your own hands, or what is it made of?
I made it Anton. Links to the parts are in the description.
Trying to make a wooden cover for tissue boxbut need the tru dementions to design on laser
A ruler should fix that! 🤪
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don't have a tissue box to measure
Ah, I see... A Kleenex tissue box is 9" x 4.5" x 1.75"
Do you have a link for the fume extractor?
You can get them on Amazon.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I know, they range from $30 to $400. I was curious which one you had. Most of them look like they have a boom that hangs over the engraver, your's just uses hurricane force winds to pull the fumes to the side.
I use this one a lot: amzn.to/3M2Vkau It works better than the 2 solder suckers with the hose I have.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you!
The PASS was only 1? I love that website, I thought I had to design from scratch. Awesome video.
Yes it was! This was a 10W diode, but I've done many projects on the 5W with equal success Gunner.
Any links for spikey bed?
In the description Merrill.
Rich could this same box be made from 1/4 inch wood?
Yes, but you would have to resize the slots and tabs. I have made it from 1/4" before years ago, but it doesn't look as good, which is why I changed the design to 1/8".
Hey man, I love your videos on LightBurn. You mentioned that a new feature LB has is the framing with laser on. How would I access this option and to speed the travel up during framing? Thank you in advance!
Enable laser fire button is in the Device Settings. On the Move tab, you can change the speed.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thanks a bunch!
Can you use this box designer with a router cnc
I don't see why not.
Hi Rich I’ve been using Box-omatic for my boxes but wow the Boxes.PY is as far as I can see a whole lot easier to format and use so thank you. My question is have you used the AtomStack S20 Pro 20W ( I have just purchased one) and was wondering have you tried to cut 1/4 ply I’m not having a great deal of joy cutting with mine, love to hear your comments

It should cut easily. Maybe you have a dirty lens or the focus is wrong.
What a man thank you, stripped the lens and it was choked up a bit cleaned have tried again and wow cuts brilliantly 👍
Glad to help Gerry!
Hi Rich, do you have a tutorial of how you made that steel bed? I see you have the parts listed. But it just sits on top of a steel cookie sheet or something ?
I just sits on top of the wood bed Jake.
Is there any way you can make tabs between offset and original drawing
You can put tabs on any line Brendan.
Ok I see the NEJE 3 Pro Laser listed but I do not see the new laser module. Where might I find it?
It's not available worldwide yet, and I don't know if they'll be selling it as a single item.
Hi rich. Just made the box after watching this video. Came out great, but do you know what the long rectangular piece (without tabs) is for? Can’t figure it out for the life of me! Can’t wait to make more BOXES!
Yeah, it's just a guide piece measuring tool to help you distinguish the pieces. On more complicated cuts with a lot of pieces, it helps.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy ok. Thank you!
Hi Rich and thanks for the informational video. Hope that you're feeling better!?
I just came across this video of yours and have already tried making some of the boxes that are on the website you suggested. The one problem I am having is that the tab is a tad bigger than the hole it is supposed to go into. What should I do differently to correct this?
Use the resize slots and tabs function in Lightburn.
Hi do you know why the robber band frame is not on the new update I have two identical frame
It works for me Simone. If you're framing something that is square or rectangle, they will both work the same way.
Thank you so much Rich. My box came out perfect. By the way I did it on my brand new P9 50M. Also, I'm having a problem registering at your site. I just figured out that I had ad blocker on Chrome and fixed that for your site. I'm not able to email anymore so I'm not sure what to do.

Where does everyone get their plywood from? I usually try to go local instead of online. If anyone knows of places to go, please let me know. Thanks.
I use qualityply.com if you're looking for online high grade ply in bulk. But you have to call them to make an order. Amazon has a lot of good suppliers as well. amzn.to/3km6ts9 Look at their ratings and comments, that will usually tell you how good the product is.

I don't have a particular video on each one. I have four different ones Tom.
you saved my day thank you
Glad to hear that!
I want to make a perfect cube with a lid on top. I hope they have something like that. I tried your tabs and slots video last night but I realized after a couple of tries that they need to be placed in a certain pattern with certain offsets to make all the pieces fit right. I'll try that website but I'd like also like to know how to design them straight from lightburn. I think I figured out how to get the sides in a perfect square but I think the tabs or slots on top and bottom need to be offset to make the bottom and the lid fit OR I need to just make two sides shorter than the other two sides by the thickness of the wood to avoid ending up with a rectangle. Yeah I guess if I want my tabs to chase around the cube the ones on the bottom and top need to be offset so the lid and bottom fit and lid and bottom would need to have offset tabs and slots as well. I'm new to lightburn so have to figure out how to offset them if I try that. I guess it has to be offset the thickness of the wood. It's a bit of a puzzle. Maybe I'll learn something from this new site you made yours from.
I'm not sure which video you watched, but this is how I personally design boxes: th-cam.com/video/jPhJSGNzd7E/w-d-xo.html
I've made dozens of boxes using this method in under 3 min, including boxes with lids for my tic-tac-toe games.

Hello dear Hobby Gut. Thank you very much for your videos. These serve as great tutorials for me as I am a novice to laser cutting. My machine is a Sculpfun S9 and I use Lightburn. Creating boxes is of great interest for me so I have checked some of the Box Design programs, incl. Boxes.PY. There, in the intro., under Q&A, I read a question about laser cut parts being off the measurements and the editors explain, in their answer, that some programs/editors do not copy measurements correctly and that SVG and DXF fall into this category. So, as I am looking for a suitable Box Designer program to adopt for my hobby, my question to you, if I may, is: what experience do you have with Boxes.PY and/or any other Box Design program, in the reliability aspect and in light of that Q & A ? I have made a box with Make a Box.IO which came out OK, but I wish to create more complex boxes that offered there. Thank you. Emanuel
