Hello Cave Dweller, thanks for stopping by! Yes, it's a bit of a no brainer really, the cart costs less than some of the most expensive games on the system or around the same as 4-5 common games so it pays for itself very quickly.
I love Super Burnout. It was made by quite a small French company and I like the sampled voices with a French accent. A lot of care went into making the game and it really shows.
Thanks mate. Came after seeing the Game Drive on the RetroRGB roundup. I'm not a Let's Play watcher so I did end up skipping big sections of those, but everything else was spot on for me. (And I realise the Let's Plays are totally a personal taste thing.) I'm looking forward to checking out some of your previous content, and excited for new content to come!
Oh this is something we've been waiting for for years. Homebrew possibilities, commercial compatibility. Great stuff. Very enjoyable gameplay - love the dry commentary. And I am always quite partial to Raiden - probably is the bovines. :P
Great video Rees. God seeing a Jag again close up really makes me want one again lol. So expensive now but I'm a patient man... Most of the time lol. The drive looks like a great bit of kit.
Great video! I had no idea that Hasbro Interactive did all that with the Jaguar! The CD games, at least here in the USA, aren't too expensive, but the CD-ROM units themselves cost over $600.00, which is absurd.
Way to go waiting to upload until you came to a fair final verdict on the GD. Your collection is appreciated. Looking forward to the ISO files--perhaps a quick tutorial on making their command line utility work?
Thanks! Yeah, I do really need to sort those - trouble is there's still a lot of stuff that isn't working and I'd rather not put out an incomplete / not fully working set or people will bug me for support. There are people out there who are very angry about the GameDrive for various reasons and I'd rather not put myself in the firing line. Shame really as I'm really enjoying mine.
Indeed. There were female protagonists in games since the 80s. Atari Karts looks fun. Zool was for me far cooler than any other console/system mascot of the time. I also liked the game Zool. At least the first that I played. If the Jaguar was released with the Mega Drive, it would have rocked. Or better yet if Atari paid any attention to their computers. Good video man, thank you for sharing.
It’s looks great. Modern storage solutions/media on original hardware like this is far and away my preferred combination for playing things eg the Ultrasatan on the ST, flashfloppy on the Amstrad etc. I learned recently that a Jaguar CD racing game called World Tour Racing, written by Lee Briggs, was the final form of a superb PD/licenseware game he did called F1 Racer, that I bought for my A1200 in about 1994.
Thanks! Yes, I have flashcarts for pretty much all of my systems, I think they're essential in this day and age. No point going out buying a Jaguar if you have no connection to it but I always wanted one as a kid and anything that makes it more enjoyable is fine by me!
Just one little tidbit... James/SainT/RetroHQ released the Lynx SD Card Adapter a good 3+ years ago. That's how he earned so much fan support from the overall Atari community. A new version of it is going to be released soon. He's renaming everything "GameDrive" so he doesn't run into any issues with the SD association. His previous plans were to tackle a 7800 SD Cartridge Adapter after finishing up the Jaguar one but the 7800 is a very tricky console to produce an SD solution for due to all of the various motherboard revisions over its commercial lifespan.
Great video! I've just got my GD and I have followed your links but the atarimania list seems to be mixed in with CD games too. Is there a link to a working romset I can download, a romset that matches the checksum on atariage? Regards
Apologies for the (deliberately) vague link, I can't link directly to ROMs here as it's against TH-cam's Terms of Service. There are some complete sets on archive.org, or if you email RetroHQ directly he will be able to point you in the right direction.
@@ctrlaltrees thanks mate, i checked the archive website but the sets I found didnt match the checksum posted on atariage. I'll probably have to manually download them from atarimania.
You forgot to mention these are not available in US, not sure about Europe. You probably know the creator to get one. I have been on a preorder list for a year and it was canceled. Have you tried CD games ?
AFAIK the flashcart will be back in stock in the US at AtariAge.com very soon. I'm not sure about the situation with preorders, I know there were some problems and some people haven't received them yet. Your best bet would be to email RetroHQ directly, James is very helpful on email. CD games are not officially supported yet but will be in an upcoming firmware update.
Personally I'm just trying to get the console for less than $500 CAD, seems like nobody selling is using Price Charting as a guide lol. Let's be frank, the Jaguar is a stronger 2D performer like the Saturn, 3D graphics are more line with the 3DO a sort of 2.5D mix like a lesser Doom 64 or a more enhanced Super-FX style game. Selling some nice Jag wares at AtariAge. :D I think it's a no brainer if you have Jaguar even if it's not cheap. Definitely true of the CD games as getting a drive and having it work are two different things, we're at a point where solid memory is cheap enough to bypass that requirement. Still it's kind of odd nobody ever made a model two JagCD as CD optical drives are fairly straightforward were very cheap after the fact. That's odd about the altered ROMs, for the Skunk I can see how that might happen given hardware quirks but strange they did that in emulators too.
Pretty cool. Cos I'm a cheapskate (spending most my money on Lego!), and the fact I never owned a Jaguar system, I'm gonna stick with ye olde spectrum and a DivMC. I think if I did have a Jaguar, I would try to find a joystick that worked with it, as I never got on very well with game pads
Really cool device! Unfortunatly very hard to get one (atm), especially here in Europe (germany). Will definetly not order one in the US! Think it's time to dig out my Jag (plus CD and Pro-Controller) again... soon! 😁
@@ctrlaltrees atm I'm not quite sure to get one tbh. First I have to try out my Jag-System after 20 years of storage. 😉 But I definetly keep an eye on the Gamedrive Flashcart!
I heard from the manufacturer that these will be reaching retailers by the end of this month (February 2021) so not much longer to wait! Also the CD support is very close to being finished. 😁
@@ctrlaltrees Got mine today from dragonbox, YESS! Great device! To my surprise it was already equipped with the actual FW 1.09, so simply plug & play! Which brings me to the question: What's the reason for these personalized FW download? Kind of obsolete, when the FW is already installed! At least until the next FW update. 😉 And thank you soo much for your effort of the complete game + marquee package! Much appreciated! 👍
There are one or two good games but yeah, it's a real shame the Jag didn't have better developer support. As a big fan of the Master System myself I can't say I disagree!
Same old story with anything Atari from this era - not enough time, money or support for the developers. They really were on their last legs by this point.
As someone with a Jag waiting to be fixed up this seems like a must buy to properly enjoy the system. Thanks for the overview!

That sounds like an interesting story, I'll have to look into it. Thanks! It's a shame there's no career mode but it's still a great game nonetheless.
Thank you so much for the unmodified games. Big help. Great review. Mine should be shipped next week.
Really a great video and super cool to provide the links to help others avoid the hassles you ran into... much appreciated
can't wait to get mine !

Haha that's cool, I'm not a Let's Play channel (hence my rubbish commentary), I just thought I'd show how well the games are running. 😄
Great video! Looks like a must have for any Jag fan.

As someone who knows virtually nothing about the jag this was really good. I do look forward to seeing your video on what the Jag can do.
Good review - thanks a lot. I bought a Jaguar Game Drive right after seeing your video.
Very nice. This is a great overview. Thanks.
Great review! I love my jaguar gamedrive, lovely bit of kit and a welcome upgrade from my skunkboard
Thanks! Yes, it really is fantastic, looking forward to that JagCD support which looks like it will be along very soon!

Nice. It will make owning a jag so much better. Wish I still had mine but going to sample the MiSTer as I see it has a core.
I need to get my hands on this! Still out of stock
Just saw the video, waiting for my gamedrive to come in the mail. Hope to get it too work!
Hey Rees, Great Video!
Thanks Mark, and thanks for the Patronage!
Great video, looks like a great product. I don't think will have a Jaguar any time soon but if I did this would be an essential purchase 👍

Interesting cart. I actually have a working cd unit with some games. Jaguar is pretty cool to own :).
Yes, contrary to popular opinion there are some very good games on the Jaguar. It's just a shame that most of them are so expensive!

Yes, good point. The Lynx flashcart I refer to as "coming soon" is the new Lynx GameDrive, not his original Lynx flashcart. 👍

so you have to use the GD without an SD card to get the URL for the firmware first? Or will you get the link with an SD card inserted?
Should come up either way IIRC.

Yes, CD games are now all working with the latest firmware update. 👍
Still no cd support.

Raiden is pronounced Rye Den. Like "Why, men?"
And...no one cares.

great video sir one sub from me
I am baffled.as you can rip off mario kart and somehow not replicate ANY of the things that make it a good game. Even the selection screen is woeful

Yeah the only one dislike is mine!!
How Dastardly... I hope you were twirling your moustache as you clicked it.
