I know this is late, probably nobody will see it, but just as an FYI, the rustoleum high heat paint says on the label, do NOT use in areas exposed to flame, like the inside of a grill or fireplace. These paints are mainly for engines and the outsides of grills. LOVE to Sonya and thanks for ALL the vids!!
I have never put tin foil and pans in pit however after I paint my pit today I did it's gone make clean up so much easier. Thanks for the good information
Recently bought a $450 grill for $60 because it was used and rusting. Currently restoring it.... My current tools/supplies: Oven cleaner, Wire brush attachment for drill, rust killer (spray gel for vertical surfaces), rust evaporator (bath for small items and grill grates that can just soak for a few hours to remove rust), those three small brushes (same as ones in the video) for small areas/corners, and then the high temp paint (just like the one you have in your video). Up to this point I've probably put about 10 hours into it... it's a lot of work but at the end of it I should have a very nice grill that will last me a long time. :)
Before you paint be sure to use a rust neutralizer this will stop the rust. Even though you painted over the rust it will continue. Use the rust neutralizer. Pick it up at the hardware store. Then paint. Great video.
What a GREAT IDEA.... Recycle....Reuse..... I Just Love it ! I am wire brushing up my grill of rusty parts to get it ready for use. When I can no longer use it as a Gas Grill.... I shall convert it to Charcoal.... 😊 Thanks.....
I watched the original video about 5 to 10 years ago you had and restored my grill. Thanks a lot. Working with a kettle grill now but following you still
Thank you for this. Every other video I have seen starts off with a brand new grill. I was just given one that looks about as well used as yours, and seeing where you ended up really helps me see how much it can improve.
It's been 17 years and it is still holding up, but I just recently renewed it again. The transformation this time is unbelievable, I will be posting the video in April.
@@sonyabeonit Unfortunately, as soon as I started brushing with that wire brush, the bottom literally fell out. I've had it over 10 years and it has served us well. I said my goodbyes as I rolled it curbside for trash collection. May it continue to R.I.P (rust in peace). LOL
Love your spirit Sonya......If you are like me, that grill becomes part of your family if you have been cooking on it for a number of years...You get use to how it heats and what you can and cannot do on it ...I clean up and paint up my Charbroil routinely....I also keep it covered with the Charbroil cover... I have to get a new cover every 18 months or so due to sun exposure, but it is totally worht it.....it makes the "rebuild " more like a "spruce up"...I spend about 5 or 7 bucks in materials and about 1 and half hours a year and it still looks good ...... When you fix up stuff in stead of putting it in the dump ....you do not even have to worry about recycling.....restoral or re purposing stuff like this is the purest form of recycling.....and trust me, I am not a tree hugger.......
fantastic and really helpful! great info on where to purchase supplies necessary, great camera angles for how to do it, and great showing how you are doing the actual cleaning. i'm not that strong but after seeing how you went about it, i'm pretty sure i can do this! thanks so much!
Girl, you got it goin' on. Thanks for the video. Going to try the oven cleaner after everything else did just an "okay" job before I saw your video. And great tip about the high heat paint. Did not know that existed. And super smart idea about adding pans for the coal.
Just bought a Brickman smoker grill for $60 on craigslist, found some high heat paint on clearance for $1.50 a can. Then bought a angle grinder from harbor freight for $15 and a wire brush attachment for $4. Spent about 8 hours taking the rust off and now it looks new. Only cost me $85 for a $350 grill.
Thanks for the angle grinder idea! I've never used one before. I was planning on using a sander. I need (want) an angle grinder. Perfect reason to get one! Grill on!
Girl thank you 🥰 my husband is restoring his Moms grill this helped so much. He already spray painted it a pretty blue but it wasn’t with grill paint. It’s a work of love she passed 30 years ago and the family was going to throw it away but he took it. You know men just do stuff 😂😂😂 so I jumped on here to do research and found you had this gem of a video🥰 Girl you are so resourceful and gifted!
Do you leave your grill out in all types of weather? I see a lot of people just letting grills sit out in the elements without coverings or at least putting under the deck. I watched your 1st video and learned to keep them clean and inside my garage 4 protection from the elements. It's already for cooking. Do you shelter your grill? Thanks cha!✌
Absolutely no chemicals should be used on the inside - chemical degreaser or paint. Oven cleaner is ok but I prefer using vinegar. Anyways, rust removal on the inside can be treated the same way you would with cast iron cookware. There are a lot of good YT videos on that process.
Great job!....Always something to learn...Curious though, I thought high heat paint is only to be used on the outside as it may flake off onto the food...Any thoughts anyone?....
I woulda used a drill with a wire brush attachment to get that rust off and eliminate all of the rust before painting. If your paint starts bubbling in places, it's because the metal is continuing to rust.
I never paint a grill, I use cooking oil and heat to season it like a cast iron skillet, especially the inside. Paint will not last and will flake off onto your food soon. You should oil your unit evetime you use it, when you start the fire spray some oil on it and let it cook onto the metal like a cast iron skillet. No need to ever paint. I use a blow torch and do it on the shelves and handles. You can paint the legs and the shelves if you prefer but the main barrel I only use oil.
I like ur tip! Cuz thats the way i season all of my cast iron and dutch ovens too! And i seen the vids of cowboy Kent Rollins so i think that's how they do it. But the painting is better to do it on the outside.
@Boss Lady no is not, the outside is great also with no paint. The hottest area over the fire box is the hardest part as it burns it off so you have to apply every time you use it
you don't want to spray the grates, there easy to clean, you don't want the paint to come in contact with your food. just the grill only, I could be wrong but I wouldn't, it's not safe.
Excellent job cleaning and painting the grill, but it was not necessary to paint the inside. You can coat the inside of the entire grill with bacon grease.
What a lovely person and what a great video! You put a bit smile on my face and you instilled confidence in me. I could listen to you talk forever. Get out the phone book and read it out loud. And you be blessed as well. Your grill is smiling, and you should be too.
I just love to see people fix and take care of things.

Another tip is that rust burns off of you heat up your grill before cooking food so that’s why always better to heat up grill so rust could burn off
I'm so glad I read your comment so I will be caref chasing paint
@@its8ngel333 is absolutely right. paint is not meant to be exposed to direct heat
That rust on the inside of the grill could have been seasoned off by heating the grill and painting on heavy coats of oil in between burns.
Genuine question , What happens if you do paint the inside
I have never put tin foil and pans in pit however after I paint my pit today I did it's gone make clean up so much easier. Thanks for the good information

Thank you! I came to the comments to say this but had to check to see if someone else has beat me to it.
aint nobody got time for that shit!
nah that spray paint has it all in one
Rustoleum has neutralizer in it.
All rustoleum has rust neutralizer in it already.
What a GREAT IDEA....

I love how raw and natural your videos are. You've talked about refurbishing this grill in multiple videos so I'm so glad it's finally been uploaded.

Looks good, about to do this today. Thanks for the tips
Just what I was looking for you did an amazing job on that grill. I was about to throw my old one out until I saw your video. Thank you for sharing

Glad to see a Woman showing that we can grill too!! Great job!!
You did a excellent job Ms
I will be trying your directions.
Ive been going through many videos and this has to be one of the best and most informative ive seen. Thank you thank you thank you! 👍🏽
The spray paint won't put poisons on food will it?
This was satisfying to watch.
To keep the inside from rusting season it with peanut oil. then turn it on with some mesquite for two hours.
Do you treat the entire inside with peanut oil, or just the grates?
@@dearThax the entire inside
Just like seasoning cast iron, love it.
I have the same grill! Thanks for this!
Most beautifull pitmaster I seen so far!!
Cooking spray works well for the grates as well
You did that!! Great job!!
Beautiful! Fantastic job!

I was under the impression that you could not spray the inside of the grill but the high heat resistant spray??????
👏👏👏👏good job babygirl good job. I did about 2 grill like that before 👍👍
I pray my mom doesn’t see this video because man I would have some work laid out for me🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭
I wouldn't paint the inside 😢
Thanks for the tips! cools stuff!

Really nice job!
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
You did so well!!
Great work looks nice
Great video. I learned a lot and the comments are good also. I appreciate cha.
Thank you for the guide. I never would thought about oven cleaner! You're invited to me BBQ!
Great info! Thanks! And blue looks awesome on you :-)
You had to pour that chemical and that rust on your grass when you rinsed it. So, it seems the plastic may not be necessary?
Great job....just about to do the same...doing it your way
Great job!
Great job!....Always something to learn...Curious though, I thought high heat paint is only to be used on the outside as it may flake off onto the food...Any thoughts anyone?....
That’s what I thought lol I have never seen a grill with paint on the inside it’s always an oiled steel

Awesome great job.
I just bought a charbroil double grill off fb marketplace for $40. Watching!
How do you light the coals?
Nice job on that grill. I see it's been a few years. How is the renewed grill holding up today?
Love it Thank You
Good job it is beautiful 👍thank you for sharing
Handy QUEEN NICE VIDEO MOMA PLAIN AND SIMPLE✊🏿
Great info
You have saved me a ton of $$. I was prepared to replace my grill. Thank you for the easy clean up idea of using the foil pans.
Is it okay to use that high heat paint on inside of grill ? I know the paint is just resistant to 1200 degrees
Did you spray racks with rustolium? If not, why not?
I would add holes to the pan that your charcoal is going in, that way it has air flow. Just a suggestion.
Subbed, great video still in 2022!
Lol..
I just love her.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Girl you did that!!!!
Great video!
when you tryna revive your grill for a Formula 1 bbq and run into a queen instead.
Nice work !
Fantastic. Thankyou so much!!
The pan is a great idea to catch the ash. I'm gonna make a trip to walmart to pick up that rust oleum thing with ultra that is
Did you spray the cooking grate as well?
you don't want to spray the grates, there easy to clean, you don't want the paint to come in contact with your food. just the grill only, I could be wrong but I wouldn't, it's not safe.
good energy.
Nice, you Grow Girl
You want to remove the foil from the smoke box. It’s stopping the flow of the smoke from smoking the meat.
Well done! I can use paint on grill grates as well?
Very relatable video
Is the paint food grade?
Thx this vid help me out a lot
Wonderful Job!!!
Excellent job cleaning and painting the grill, but it was not necessary to paint the inside. You can coat the inside of the entire grill with bacon grease.
You could always paint the ultra over the regular black.
Absolutely loved the tin foil/tin pan idea, making BBQ cleanup so much easier. THANK YOU!
Only this is that is messes with the air flow if you want some precision control over your fire.
Very nice work.
really good job 👍👍👍👍👍

I could listen to you talk forever. Get out the phone book and read it out loud.

GREAT VIDEO!!!!!
One grill video, they used used acetone to wipe the grill down before painting.
Amazing job I'll love a plate my sister.
love it....the grill is looking nice!!
Useful video!
