Good Times | Best Of James Evans | The Norman Lear Effect

Jame is the type of father these punks need today
THAT'S for sure!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you, these today's teen- age a-holes need a father like James Evans if they have a father like him, they wouldn't get out of line, messing up
I totally agree
A-TO-THE-MEN!
@johncoleman2347, I agree with you 100% Percent!
James was strict but he defended his wife and kids something fierce!
More children from gen z are in desperate need of father's like James Evans.
I AGREE
Could say the same about every generation
@@MrStaley Indeed!
Yup
I must say I disagree.
Nice that John is still alive.
John Amos is 81 years old. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

Kristyharris
@@terryharris1565 who in the heck is Kristy Harris? From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@@harperstacey9604 John Amos will be 83 on December 27th.
The best television dad ever.
Nah...Uncle Phil from Fesh Prince. James had to much of a temper and too much of a misogynist.
@@saramatthews7159
Angry Feminist detected..lol
No im not an angry feminist...james never wanted flo to better herself...says alot
The only about is that James held the family back with a 6 grade education who is somebody that has absolutely no education I hate to say it but Norman Lear was right in getting rid of James
Bill is the best
James Evans is the best and most realistic TV 📺 Father ever
One of them . John Walton was another .
Good Times was never the same after James Evans departure from the show. But the producers finally got their wish, because according to Esther Rolle, they initially wanted her to be a single mother, but she insisted on there being a Father in the house.
Wrong!!! Jimmie walker and bernadette are the heart and soul of good times thier back and forth made the sitcom worth watching john was ok but jimmie and bernadette were the star's!!!
read why he was or how he was let go from the show...it was up on you tube
@@moetolove Yeah I know. I think it had something to do with him constantly getting upset at the writers for wanting to continue to make Jimmie Walker a stereotype. Esther left the show for the same reason, but they eventually talked her into coming back for the final season.
@@angholloway5091 Typical female nature of 2022. Not wanting to give credit to a strong man.
I agree. The way Norman Lear fired John Amos was cowardly. John Amos showed up to do season 3. That's when he was informed, he was fired. It's ironic, because after John Amos was fired. They toned down JJ's buffoonery. Norman Lear was just being honoree and didn't want to listen to a black man.
They don't make em like James no more. Salute to all the OG father's, that will never leave their kids behind
James was a real Father
"Yeah, well I'mma have to work out an understanding with the Lord some other time Florida." 😂😂😂
SHE insisted a " Man " be in the house !!! What a good concept .
James Evans is a real true father to his kids he treats his lady very well strong man of the family keeping everything together
@my name is
Yes! And even though being poor and living in the ghetto!!
I love James Evans! Best TV dad ever!
James Evans along with Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince and Carl Winslow are my top three television dads of all time
Fred Sanford
PZOHOM
ZZZ BLK PK
And Lester Jenkins
We don't have such dads
And George Jefferson
I love John Amos and will watch anything he's in
James Evans- best tv dad EVER
maybe the best BLACK father.
Good times wasn't the same when he left
The episodes with James Evans were the best!
Ikr. I hated the fact that he left
James Evans Sr. was the absolute best!💯
James is the father we all need today. Our youth is lost today because we don't have men .
Well start with those in the house first
And the type of men women marry
James evans and uncle Phil were the best
I think the only time I ever cried over a TV dad death is when James Evans died.
He stayed with his family to the end ! He never ran out!
unlike REAL black families.
That's the bare minimum...once you FORCE a child into this world you're supposed to take care of them. The bar is set really low for black males
He was supposed to
One of my all-time favorite tv dads!!!!!
The best TV Father ever...James Evans, Sr. 💗💗💗💗💗💯🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
he kept fighting and had his head up!
James Evans was proud to see his youngest son Michael singing When You're Young And In Love
James couldn't stay in his seat when Michael was singing. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
That sadly was John Amos' last episode.
@moabite sounds that part was hilarious too
James Evans is the most realistic Dad on television IMHO. He is a loving, devoted father but also a strict disciplinarian - so needed today.
John Amos/James Evans best father portrayal hands down! Loved this show!
Florida should have been grateful. All James wanted to do is take care of his family
Actor John Amos was fired from Good Times in 1976 due to a situation between him and Norman Lear
Shame on Lear.
He was unhappy with the direction of the storyline. It was becoming the JJ show
The best thing to happen to him. In 1977 John Amos the adult Kunta Kinte in Roots and his career took off
yup and its a real shame. John wanted the show to stay conveying a positive message to set the standard for black viewers, but Lear just wanted the show to be about JJ acting a bafoon the whole time, so Amos left the show and Lear killed off his character in the weakestway possible, smh.
John and eslle sorry if I spelled it wrong both left the show because it was going into the JJ comedy show and they both didn't want that remember she was gone for about two whole seasons
James Evans, the best TV dad in the history of television.
Everybody needs a Dad like James
I grew in a really pour family so I related to their struggles. Not all of course but many.
This dude looks and reminds me of my old man. Lost him a few years back I get a good laugh everytime I see these old clips.
"We'll make it the same way we always have. Somehow." Been there done that. Know just how it feels. But God has always come through for us.
James was just like my Grandfather. 😄
Let’s remember the real creator of the show Mike Evans the son of George Louise on the Jeffersons he created the show and name the lead characters Michael Evans after himself
The co-creator of Good Times was Eric Monte. He wrote Cooley High
He didn’t have that large a role in the show.
If every single woman had a man like James that would take charge of a household it would be a lot more stability in America right now, most fathers today have turned into wimps with the mothers running the show
nah he had a bad temper (throwing chairs and whatnot)....not to mention a misogynist because he wouldn't let Flo work or even go back to school
James Evans was the greatest black father and its what these kids need now.
Notice who runs the black family today and not the black man sorry. Shout out to my late father he did me right by raising me and teach me about life
Monty was a 'Little Rascal' named STYMIE.
I know
The best to ever do it!! 🙌🏽
Great show stay safe yall.
Where are the James Evans that these kids needs in their homes. A lot of them will be walking a straight line . What a strong man.
Now that's a REAL MAN!!!!! MISS THEM!!!!!😇🥰🙃
he was the best
James is The Man especially when it all comes down to a hustle and flow he is on The Move
This is one TV show I looked forward to seeing all the characters felt real w real problems and GOOD TIMES day by day, I grew up poor and I could relate to them.
Walona- sharpest dressed lady in the projects.
She is beautiful also
The Best TV DAD for the Black Community at the time. John Amos made it happen.
Tonight on TV ONE it's a Good Times marathon
I wish 2 bedrooms still cost 100 bucks. 🤣🤣🤣
100 bucks in the 70s was like 1600 bucks today
Best tv Dad ever!!💪🏽💪🏽
my favorite dad back then funny and real at the same time
Once James left Good Times, it wasn’t the same…😢
James didn't take no mess from nobody. That's exactly y it wasn't the same when he wasn't there
I hope they use John Amos in those Progressive Insurance TV dad commercials like they did Reginald VelJohnson. ( Carl Winslow )
James Evans could never get a break in life due to him not having an education. He had the ultimate chance to get a break when his cousin offered him a partnership in his garage business but he wind up getting killed in a car accident.
😥
Thanks For Sharing!
I wish they would have listened to him. He was unhappy with the direction of the show and so was Esther
If they would have listened to him, the show would have tanked. Whether it's JJ, Fresh Prince, Arnold Drummond or Steve Urkel. Sitcom clowns is what sells..
Very underrated Father/ character
I looked up to James . I had no father in my home and I always looked to Good Times to see what I was missing .
James was the best. He was one of the reasons I loved watching Good Times. I love Esther rolle to, but it was good before they killed him off.
James was a good father at least he did,nt give up on job.
John Amos Was the Best I Agree Every Household Need Father's Like Him and Every Young Punks in the world 🌎 That's Why The world so Messed up it ain't enough Father's in the House with these Boys So My Boy John Amos Always Get a A Plus In My Book He Love His Family and Was Crazy about his Family But Got on they Case when he had to
James @ 3:24 is my dad telling me to take out the garbage during the 80’s-early 90’s. I went lol
Rip dad I love u so much. Your son
No ain't ain't but isn't is you wrong Florida look it up can't why not Ain't got no dictionary 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can't lie, that's a damn good reason 😂
john amos was the best thing good times had!!!!!
One of the greatest shows ever non-political non-race all about the struggles of life I miss these days
Baby Michael & that smart-alecky mouth of his!! He was the smartest & wisest of the Evans children, though!!
He is a great dad
Happy Fathers Day!
James was very strict, but more parents should be that way. It's too bad John Amos was fired from the show.
James was definitely a Role Model for both J.J and Michael!! A man who loved his family and believed in education and pushes his kids that School is their way of of the GHETTO!! This show was 1 of my favorites!! Much Love to the entire Cast💗🤍💟🤍💗
Norman Lear didn't like how powerful and popular James was. James has an issue with how the show was full of negative stereotypes and demanded a change. So they fired him. After that the show took a deep fall no matter the effort they took to fill the void. Florida left for two seasons for the same reasons, the negative stereotypes.
This was such a Good Show to watch!! I grew up watching 👀 Good Times I loved how the show touch on Family Values..Faith..and Education!! Both James and Florida made phenomenal 🙌🏽 parents!! This world could use more Father's like James Evans💝💛🌟💝💛
I agree 100 percent.
🐐
James Evans rage can be so extreme at times
It's freaking tv
OH YEAH 👍🏻
Do you need to go to your safe space
James Evens was intentionally eliminated . He is the Dad that is needed today.
James picked up Florida evens you know he strong😆😄😅
Monty played Stymie in the Little Rascals
My Dad once told me that he looked up to James when he was younger during Good Times' original run on CBS....turned out to be JUST LIKE him, and I can honestly say he's the reason I turned out the way I did.
Amen
That apartment could use a coat of paint.
Have you ever watched, The Honeymooners?
Have you ever watched, The Honeymooners?
@@eloiseockert9319 👍✌
It's funny u mentioned the Honeymooners. J.J. character was based on Ed Norton.....
JJ’s face in this is so funny😂😂😂
Don't mess with James Evans.
James Evans Sr. Is the ultimate tv dad! Without James there'd be no Uncle Phil, no Carl Winslow, no Dan Conner, no Al Bundy, no Frank Mitchell, no Julius Rock etc. John Amos was the first Black America's tv dad before Cliff Huxtable in the eighties.
🖤
My dad was just like James Evans, one look from him and I was in trouble!!!! We need more fathers like him today, thanks Dad, you taught me right!!!
Michael use to crack me up.
@ 3:25 Lmfao reminds me so much of my dad.
James Evans did not play with misbehavior
AND FOR GOOD REASONS 👍🏻
Bill Cosby and John Amos My Boys The Best Father's
John Amos kids look just like him a whole lot
6:37, 9:08 loving these styles on Mr. Amos
Funny thing is in real life, he's old enough to be Florida's son, and J.J.'s brother
He aged better than JJ❤❤❤
He was my tv Dad
James didn't like games
