My father named me after this song. I listened to it all the time growing up. He lost his battle with cancer when I was 16 so this song definitely hits hard 💔
It is a beautiful song, and these guys did it justice. They didn't get enough credit as artists back in the 70's. Most of these guys are gone now, but I am betting it would be special to all of them to know your father thought so much of their music. Your namesake is one of their best in my opinion. Carry on Carrie
These guys were a staple of my childhood, gotta come back and listen to them every so often. If for nothing else, for the good memories. And not just the hall of fame, they gotta get their faces on the cover of the Rolling Stone! :D

how they went from stoned off their rears to perfection in singing, playing and harmonizing. SO TALENTED, all of them. One of the best live performances ever.
That just shows the talent. I grew up listening to these guys because of my parents. Look at this scene. These guys are wrecked. And they're having a great time goofing off. Yet, the moment it comes to the music, it's all seriousness. It was always fun and games with these boys until the moment they started performing. They matured as people and as a band. Ray was an awesome person! He came off stage and was very friendly to everyone. He sang all the hits! This song he stayed away from! Only Dennis had the voice for this song.

I know Dr.Hook and the Medicine Show word for word. My dad introduced me to them when I was a little boy. They are the soundtrack of growing up with timeless and classic music.

LYRICS:
Second Street and Broadway
Sittin' in a doorway
Head held in his hands
Looked to all the world
Like he was prayin'
Foot wrapped in old rag
Bottle in a brown bag
I saw him trying to stand
Then I heard the words that he was sayin'
He said
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
I don't know where it's leadin' to
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie, carry me a little while
Well he struggled to his feet
And staggered down the street
To the window of a five and dime
He stood and laughed a while, at his reflection
And then I heard him shoutin'
Something 'bout a mountain
He could surely climb
If she was only there
To point, the right direction
But she ain't, no, but she ain't, no
He said
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
I don't know where it's leadin' to
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little while, yeah
Carry me, Carrie
Carry me, yeah
Carry me, Carrie
Carrie, carry me
You got to carry me
You got to carry me
Carry me, Carrie
Carry me, Carrie
You got to carry me
You got to carry me
