Amen to that, Pete dude. I'm just thankful that we couldn't see what lay ahead of us. It hurts me when I look at the youth of today and know deep inside me that they will never know times like we had.
You are so right! I'm a bit younger than you but I'm going to my 50th high School reunion in a couple of days and I can't wait to meet with my old friends who we all knew the great music because there's nothing now that even knows what a rock band is
As a kid in the 90s my dad drove a 69 El Camino. He had 4 kids but just 2 seats. 3 of us kids sat on speakers behind those seats with Dr. Hook blaring! Dr hook came to Shawnee Ok in 2015 I got to surprise my dad for Xmas with those tickets. Him and those 3 little kids sitting on a speaker got to take him. Best night ever! Last month my dad passed. We knew we had to play something Dr hook at his funeral. We played "walk right in" and that's what family walked in to. I know my dad couldn't have been prouder.
My first concert in the old Stampede Corral in Calgary. A couple years ago on New Year's Eve all I could hear in my head for the next couple days was Sylvia's Mother. When the newspaper came out on January 2nd and announced that Ray had passed away.. I couldn't believe it but yet I could. It's absolutely incredible to me
I was stationed overseas in Korea in 1976 and these guys were incredibly popular on our base. "Freaker's Ball" was the favorite but this one was up there.
I shared a beer with this guy in New Smyrna Beach one night in a local bar. A friend of mine was doing some "business" with him and we were the house band. He got up and did his 10 best songs right in that little joint and was fantastic.
I hate to burst your bubble Larry, but Ray's only hit as the lead singer was this tune. Dennis Laccoriere was the lead singer in all the bands hits except this one. Most of the bands hits were written and owned by Shel Silversteen, who when he died bequeathed the rights to all his music to Dennis. Dennis moved to England after the band broke up and he had an agreement with Ray allowing him to perform the songs.
Bullcrap ! Once they heard the song and figured out who the retards on the stage were, they loved it and clapped the entire song. lol This was typical in those days and those days were fun and amazing and we had so many great bands or movies to see and the rest of the time we were outside playing baseball or catch, we were always busy, but relaxed. I hope you were there, my friend.

HA THEY ALL DIVORCED NOW. FIRST PROBLEM AND THEY GAVE UP. LOL-!!!
Hey!!!! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Please put these guys enshrine at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are legends and deserve there spot. Thank you be safe all.
Dr. Hook embodied every good thing about the 70s. I saw them in 1976. The crowd was enormous. People were selling cans of Coke for a dollar each. The Runaways opened for them and were practically booed off of the stage. I have a little photo album of that summer which includes 7 photos that I took of Dr Hook performing. Ray Sawyer was definitely entertaining, he put his heart and soul into every song. I still love their music and I wish that times were as good now.
I saw them in concert at a movie theater downtown Des Moines, IA, Ray came up to me sang a few lines, then tapped me on my forehead with his hat, I was star struck for ever.
Hell guess we are really getting OLD !! Just found out that Ray Sawyer passed away in 2018. God this hit Kathy & I really hard today !! RIP Ray .
