    Lyrics:
    [Talking]
Ha ha ha, I don't believe it
Da, da, ah, ah don't touch it
Hey, Ray, hey, Sugar, tell them who we are...
    Well, we're big rock singers
    We got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go...(That sounds like us)
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show...(Right)
We take all kinds of pills that give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone
(Rollin' Stone...) Wanna see my picture on the cover
(Stone...) Wanna buy five copies for my mother...(Yes)
(Stone...) Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone...(That's a very very good idea)
I got a freaky ole lady name a Cocaine Katy
    Who embroiders on my jeans
I got my poor ole grey haired daddy
    Drivin' my limousine
Now it's all designed to blow our minds
But our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll gitcha when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone
(Rollin' Stone...) Wanna see our pictures on the cover
(Stone...) Wanna buy five copies for our mothers...(Yeah)
(Stone...) Wanna see my smilin face
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone
    [Talking]
    Hey, I know how
    Rock and roll...
    [Instrumental]
    Ah, that's beautiful
We got a lot of little teenage blue eyed groupies
    Who do anything we say
We got a genu-wine Indian Guru
Who's teaching us a better way
We got all the friends that money can buy
So we never have to be alone
And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone
(Rollin' Stone...) Wanna see my picture on the cover
(Stone...) Wanna buy five copies for my mother...(Wa wa)
(Stone...) Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone
On the cover of the Rollin'...
(Stone...) Wanna see my picture on the cover
    [Talking]
I don't know why we ain't on the cover, baby...
(Stone...) Wanna buy five copies for my mother
    [Talking]
    We're beautiful subjects...
(Stone...) Wanna see my smilin' face
    [Talking]
I ain't kiddin', we would make a beautiful cover...
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone...
    [Talking]
Fresh shot, right up front, man...
I can see it now, we'll be up in the front...
    Smilin', man...
    Ahh, beautiful...

As a kid in the 90s my dad drove a 69 El Camino. He had 4 kids but just 2 seats. 3 of us kids sat on speakers behind those seats with Dr. Hook blaring! Dr hook came to Shawnee Ok in 2015 I got to surprise my dad for Xmas with those tickets. Him and those 3 little kids sitting on a speaker got to take him. Best night ever! Last month my dad passed. We knew we had to play something Dr hook at his funeral. We played "walk right in" and that's what family walked in to. I know my dad couldn't have been prouder.

I hate to burst your bubble Larry, but Ray's only hit as the lead singer was this tune. Dennis Laccoriere was the lead singer in all the bands hits except this one. Most of the bands hits were written and owned by Shel Silversteen, who when he died bequeathed the rights to all his music to Dennis. Dennis moved to England after the band broke up and he had an agreement with Ray allowing him to perform the songs.

This was typical in those days and those days were fun and amazing and we had so many great bands or movies to see and the rest of the time we were outside playing baseball or catch, we were always busy, but relaxed.

Dr. Hook embodied every good thing about the 70s. I saw them in 1976.
The crowd was enormous. People were selling cans of Coke for a dollar each. The Runaways opened for them and were practically booed off of the stage. I have a little photo album of that summer which includes 7 photos that I took of Dr Hook performing. Ray Sawyer was definitely entertaining, he put his heart and soul into every song. I still love their music and I wish that times were as good now.

I was driving to work the other morning and this came on. I hadn't heard it for years - decades perhaps and I really listened to it with a bit more wisdom than decades ago. This is a great fun song. With far more life experience I now appreciate the humor of it whereas before it was just a stupid song I dismissed.
Of course I Googled "Did Dr Hook ever get on the cover of Rolling Stone," LOL.
