I'm only six minutes in and already this is my favorite powerstrokehelp video. It took a lot for you to say what you said in the beginning. Not everyone would have felt comfortable sharing something like that on TH-cam. It definitely gives a lot of insight into your perspective, and what made you who you are today.

Bill, it’s inspiring to see that, even after all the challenges and difficulty your father placed on your shoulders as a child, you still give him respect and honor in your video notes. That, my friend, is the true spirit of love and is an example to all. Love one another, honor thy father and mother.
A big Thank You from Texas for being you and being the best at what you do.

I just completed this swap on my 02 7.3. For those of you who don't know, this will work the same for a 7.3. The mounting holes are the same for the engine to drop in on the 05-07 frame, as well as the frame holes shown here. But he is not kidding when he says those rivets have to to be done cold. It took me two days of pounding away at them with punches to get them all out, but now my truck rides as good as any new truck. I'll be posting a video on my channel shortly for the whole job.

It's certain people who make the world's problems seem as simple as they truly are. It's because people overcomplicate things. There are builders and destroyers and this guy is a builder. We need more guys like him we cud defeat racism and just build. When u have no passion or love for what u do for a living u generally became a hater and destroyer this guy has passion for what he does for a living and I'm hooked . I'm sold and I am a new subscriber. Whether I have time to watch his videos or not I'm gonna like as many videos just so I cud support somehow. God bless brother

My dad adopted me after my mom passed away from TB when I was nine years old, At first so glad to be going to family just realise that dad never did "want" me. He was 6'7" tall and weighed 350 and didn't look fat cause for one he wasn't. He would back hand me and I could feel it for days, broke my ribs once and he wasn't being mean, he was just big. Oh when I growed up and he was in his late 70's, he said he was sorry for being so rough on me but I just pissed him off cause I reminded him of my mother. Sad ass excuse for what he was was a bully. I grew up fixing anything that broke,,, sometimes before it broke cause I knew it was going to. I was about as confused as they get and then the military drafted me so I went to Nam but I come home mean and mad at the whole world. I was never the quality of mechanic that you are but I stayed greasy cause I was a loner. When the helmet come down I didn't have to talk to you and sometimes would make a extra pass with the rod just so I didn't have to talk. For me therapy never worked and it wasn't until I quit drinking 22 years ago that I started to heal. I had two of the best dogs that were with me for twelve and a half years. Lady and
Tramp were my best friends and we did everything together. It worked for me

Good job Bill. You are totally right about how Ford should have built this truck. That late model front suspension swap is huge. Every stock 4x4 excursion out there is riding around on the bump stops because most people dont buy leaf springs unless they are broken. My dream "ultimate excursion" would be a similar idea to this, but with a Centurion 350 with a 7.3 and late model suspension/axles/wheels.

I have done the 05 to 07 suspension upgrade and it is much easier then described in this video. Absolutely no need to cut the frame and graft on the newer front section. All that is needed is to bolt on the spring buckets and radius arm brackets from a 05 and up doner truck or new ones from Ford if you don't want to cut out rivets. The holes are already in the frame. I have done a few of them in my home shop and it only takes 8 to 10 hours. And I am 62 years old and work alone. The benefits are great. Better ride and improved turning radius.

Excellent video and work.i have been doing (on a lower version) this kind of work on 1997 to 2002 expeditions.there is a pretty good market for these as a good everyday driver.first thing I do is pull the body and roll it into the shop and go through every nut and bolt.most of these have engine problems for one reason or another. I am working my way up to getting frame and running gear ready, then if someone blew a motor or transmission, I will be able to throw there body on and away they go.thank you for all the good information.

Excellent Conversion Excursion Bill! Surprised you couldn't sell the Excursion because it was originally 2 wheel drive though. When we bought our Excursion in 2004 (it was a used 7.3 Diesel Limited, 2002, 50K miles), I looked specifically for a 2 wheel drive model to tow an RV trailer.

And the Ford Transmissions are extremely interchangeable. That automatic transmission can be changed to four wheel drive by changing the tail housing and the output shaft. Wow. Great video, great product. If you want a Ford and you want a passenger vehicle with third row seating and you want to tow the Excursion is your only option. My family put 160,000 miles on ours. It was a V10, two wheel drive. We loved it and it performed reliably and towed well, but it was a nightmare sometimes to drive. It rode like a pickup when new and after installing load leveling air shocks it was worse. But it hauled two adults, five kids, a dog and a few pretty good sized trailers. My kids grew up with that truck. My point is that if you want to do all that in a Ford the Excursion is your only choice and the platform was not built to its full potential. Now you’ve done that. Kudos. And $40 grand? That’s extremely affordable for a ride that does all that. I’m very impressed. The only thing I’d change is I’d put a Cummins in it. I know, I know, but I had a 2003 six liter power stroke. Ruined me. Bravo man, great job.

Thanks for the real man backstory Bill! We are cut from the same cloth...my grandad and his dad came from Kentucky to start the first Ford dealership in Kingsville, Tx. Yes, that's right, as in the King Ranch Edition...and like you he did things that improved on what Ford themselves couldn't do! Turns out, Ford couldn't keep their transmissions working in all the trucks on the King Ranch because of such rough treatment, and my grandad (Charlie Foster) figured out that all that was required was to drill and tap a hole at a critical location and install a ball bearing followed by a spring and a bolt that gave the gears more strength and stability to hold it all together during rough use...so Ford trannies have been having trouble for centuries now--haha!
I've had two 7.3 4x4 Excurso-beasts...and obviously, am looking at #3 being a distinct possibility.
Once you get down to bare frame, anything goes, eh? As far as mods, would starting with the BEST frame/suspension/drive train that is available and slapping the rear (2 doors to the cargo/3rd seat/rear bumper) of an Excursion onto an existing truck (bed replacement) be the least trouble? Even a camper conversion would be far less expense...right? What 4x4 frame/suspension do you consider best for durability, 10k lb towing and solid comfortable ride?
Final challenge. I HATE ELECTRONICS which always seem to be the weak link...and am interested in building a zombie apocalypse 4x4 Excursion (or variant) that has mechanical everything...EMP-proof...kinda like the 9N tractor that will be working after I am long gone and buried. Cummins comes to mind...any thoughts?
