I have a 2003 7.3 Lariat with 120k miles on it, never lets me down. I pulled the tank and rebuilt the sending unit and harpooned the tank. Love it and will never sell it. I only use it to pull my 5th wheel RV to go camping and other pulling work. Its a Texas truck also.

Just replace parts as they dry rot.. not going to wear out easily at that use. Trust me. Have 2000 with 145k. So many things just got “old” vs wear out

Had to do the same fix for the boot about a month ago. Was smiling to see powerstrokehelp make the same fix. I cut a few “v’s” in the bottom of the fuel hose I used to prevent suctioning to the bottom of the tank, probably not necessary though.

On a fakebook page and it totally amazes me that their are people who swear that the 6.4l is the best powerstroke diesel ever made lmfao. Can't fix STUPID LOL

Having both, I prefer the 6.4L for it being fast as fuck. Ordered it new to get a six speed. However when it eventually pops, I'll go back to being sad and slow in the 7.3L.

Bill, I was thinking that in your next video when you do the fuel pump, could you show us the fuel bowl filling before and after? Some folks don't know what a good fuel rate looks like. Thanks for all you do for us PSD owners!

Normally I view Bill as a bit of a "Guru". But I think he missed the ball with this one. Ford actually recommends dropping the tank and cleaning/replacing the in tank screens every 100k miles. Who's really going to do that ? There are lots of kits on the market to eliminate those screens (search Harpoon and Hutch mod). And they even come with the pick up foot that Bill had trouble finding. Of course, you need to replace the screens with something. A remote, spin on filter is a good choice. I noticed the truck in the video has a utility bed. If you have a stock bed you may find it easier pulling the bed off. Makes access to the tank and all the lines a piece of cake. I did it by myself with a chain hoist, but with 4 people it's an easy lift off. My truck only had 100k miles on it and the tank screens were very gunked up. The hardest part of this entire job was threading the sender unit retainer ring back on. Pain in the butt ! Finally pulled it off by icing the top of the tank and soaking the ring in boiling water. Good luck. 7.3 forever !

7.3s are old but i personally love them. I have one in my work van 2003 and a 2001 f350. Been driving them for years and they have NEVER left me on the side of the road. The weakest part is the trans, I keep the fluid clean and haven't lost one yet!

Buy a triple clutch torque converter and get it changed now, BEFORE your stock one blows out and trashes a great transmission. The transmissions are stout, its the torque converter that sucks. I have one truck sidelined for that very reason. Both of mine have high miles, (the one trashed at 220,000 the one I am driving is at 378,000. Love the trucks, the torque converter was the biggest major stock item that was weak.

@@Rem1061 Thanks for the tip! I never heard that before. My 2003 e350 Van I use to haul all of my painting gear. So its a relatively light load. Maybe 2-4k lbs. at times. Its at 184k miles now, think that would be a good idea with that situation? The f350 truck, I mainly use to tow my boats, one is 6k fully loaded. At 83k miles on it and haven't had ANY problems so far.

have a 2002 F350 CC with 30K miles on it. It mostly sits till i take a vacation. These videos are very helpful for knowing what problems to look for and how to fix them. sure appreciate the time you are taking to make the videos. Truck was weaned on Kendall 15/40 D3. canot find anymore except for synthetic. did hours of research and only thing i can come up with is Motorcraft diesel oil any thoughts. Once on trip to Texas change came due. Had to use dello and on trip home pressure gauge read 1/4 in lower. Scared the heck out of me. Put Kendall in when got home and gauge read in old position??????????

Love all the videos you put up here. Great information.
Question, PLEASE. I have a 2000 F250 7.3 PSD. I’m changing the fuel pump due to symptoms of a fuel restriction. It’s a 260K mile truck that I bought out of Texas and I believe it’s an original pump. Probably due for replacement. I try to give this truck anything it needs.
I was going to do a complete fuel system tune up and I saw your video. I want to change my siphon boot and, as you suggested, the element screens in the sending unit.
I went to Ford (a good dealer I use often for parts) and they tell me my truck has no such in tank element screens. I found a Motorctaft part #FD4605 on line, and they researched it and they say all the books on my truck show those FD4605 filter screens were only used on 2004 and newer 6.0’s, not my 7.3. They also couldn’t find any in tank filtration for a 2000 7.3.
Before I go dropping my tank, is Ford crazy or were there possibly some trucks in this series that had fuel systems that didn’t have any in-tank filtration?
ANY Advice or clarification is APPRECIATED!!

I’d like to know how to improve the fuel mileage on my 2003 7.3. It’s a F250 extended cab, short bed, 4X4 3.73 gears pretty much all stock. S&B cold air intake, 4” Diamond eye exhaust, superchips on fuel economy tune. Best I can get is 15.5 mpg. It just loves fuel. It's the lil rubber piece on the end of one of the cables, normally the top one goes first, there's a metal repair kit for them on E-Bay so you don't have to buy nex cables, you'll have to remove both parts or rear door panel from inside, and generally you can trip the upper catch and open the door to remove the cables and latches to install the new repair pieces onto the cables... Quite a few good videos on TH-cam showing them m

I’d start with performing the procedure he’s done in this video.. I have a 2000 7.3 lariat 4x4 w/just over 375K on odo.. have learnt MUCH from THIS yt channel per the 7.3’s in’s & out’s. Maybe also go thru its fuel bowl assembly in valley pan area; in a much earlier vid from Bill here, he describes a delete of the fairly restrictive fuel cutoff check valve IN fuel bowl, for in case a fuel filter is NOT installed (as if! Stupid!). Maybe also double check power steering pump’s fluid level, as it also supplies hydraulic pressure for hydraboost brake booster.. maybe when stopping truck, the lower rpm’s combined w/low power steering fluid, could cause flutter of rpm’s? Get u one of them 7.3 fuel pressure checking fittings via eBay, to be able to actually SEE in real time, what fuel pressure reads on a gauge, while driving it (after cleaning out in tank strainers); could have a weak fuel pressure spring. Two sensors that most commonly need changed are the ICP & the Cam Sensor
