Scott, thanks for all your testing. Can't wait till you get back in the game. On your advice, I put the Adams Advanced Graphene/Ceramic coating on my wife's white Lexus, about two years ago. So far I am NOT disappointed. However, I do put a topper every fall and again in the spring after winter. Living in the Midwest, we do go below zero temps and up to 100 degrees in the summer. And this has been a daily driver. No complaints so far. I try to wash it once in the garage with ONR. Once spring comes, it does get a traditional soap & water wash, with light iron remover & water spot cleaning, then again in the fall before winter.

Is there any benefit to using these “real” coatings then if they’re only lasting a little over a year? If there are spray coatings that last almost a year that are much easier to install, that seems like the way to go.

Scott, Another great test Video. More evidence that my decision to give up on these higher solids ceramic coatings was a good call. Many of these specifically on dark color cars can be hard to apply, and are not worth my time as a avid DYI car guy. I switched to Griot's 3 in 1 spray and as you show in multiple test it lasts up to a year which isn't much less than all these more expensive options. Keep up the good work!!!

    I can tell you 100
5 that Nanobond is completely worthless. After carefully prepping and applying the coating, it appeared to work. But after a month, the hood and truck top surface showed degradation and stains from fallout even after washing and wiping down. I decided to clay bar it to see if the impurities would go away, and they did nothing...it appeared that the coating itself was eaten away by dust, sunlight exposure, rain and there were holes through the coating. So now I have to polish and use another coating to avoid this. The pollen, dust, rain and sunlight really did a job on this coating. The pain is BMW Mystic Blue metallic, a little dark bluish color. The car is located in Houston Texas. I ordered two bottles and still have one left but I am not going to even use the 2nd bottle. You get what you pay for folks... I am going to see if I can find anyone who has any 22ple stock left over. That's the only brand I ever got over 5 yrs of protection out of so far.

I think the best product is UK 3.0. I reapply it to my own car every 14-18 months. This last time I topped it with gliss, but on the doors, I only used gliss. That was about 3 month ago, everything still perfect. Interested to see what happens. The NUMBER ONE thing to increase longevity of coatings, besides regular wash, is avoidance of excessive use of toppers, quick detailer, and any soap that leaves residue. Toppers leave residue that destroys the coating after a while. You can see it when you polish the car again on a coated car if, for example, a qd or topper was used as a drying aid every week or two for six months. The pads can even turn black. That's all decomposed "topper" that also traps dust and grime.

With rare washes and 1 coating layer, the sides of my truck failed after around 6 months, but the top of vehicle where all of the heat and dust is still hanging in there. Just applied Nano Bond with 2 layers to my 21 foot boat in Michigan , I trust it last pretty long from your testing, but I’m curious how well it will hold up on gelcoat. Not sure how you would go about testing this btw, but if you wanted to expand, a suggestion is that you could test the marine coatings on gel coat as well, the car market is much more vast and tested than the marine coatings are and I’d love to see how they hold up. You could test for oxidation too, a bit problem with our boat is that the top edge is blue and after a single year will oxidize and the color will dull, so it would be interesting what coatings would prevent that kind of problem. Great video as always though!

Updates: The coating on the sides of the boat is still lasting to this day, water is still beading off almost just as good as when it was applied. The upper edge in direct sunlight not so much, it’s mostly been destroyed and is near nonexistent. Could be a direct sunlight and heat thing as we do not keep the boat under a sunshade in the summer.
Problems: the upper edge of the boat (that is blue gelcoat) turned chalk white after the first 6 months, this has happened with other ceramic coatings we have also tried, so it’s probably a heat thing. Still trying to find a ceramic coating that will not turn white after a year on our boat.
One other note: we have our boat on a lift so when we take it out every weekend, we don’t wash it down or anything, so the coating has been only maintaining itself off the initial application

Does anyone know if it is beneficial at all & safe to use a ceramic spray (eg; Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax Spray) over a ceramic coating?
I wash my car monthly and usually finish with this spray. Should I continue to use the spray product?

    • @ScottHD
      @ScottHD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is a great point - I've done videos on most of these at the beginning of each series that goes over the SDS/what's in them and the mist entering the airways is definitely something to heed with caution...they have some nasty stuff in them - especially Adams products.

I've used Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray Coating for quite a while. While it's not the best, it's ease of use, and for the money, it's seems pretty good for an amateur like me.

I know after this someone sent you a bottle of owners pride spotless but I bet most of these coatings are still good just really clogged. And it’s something 99% of consumers can use as long as they can wash their car. So being that it’s not an installer only option I feel like for tests going forward after every 3 months or so you should use the water spot remover to unclog the coatings. Or even just after 6 month.

I've extracted data on various coating products from the document. However, it seems that Turtle Wax products are also mentioned, but without explicit comparisons to other coatings in terms of their performance metrics. Here are some notable Turtle Wax products from the document and their durability:
    1. **Turtle Wax Ice "Seal N Shine"**
    - Days until failure: 240
    2. **Turtle Wax Pro Graphene Flex Wax Spray**
    - Days until failure: 270
    3. **Turtle Wax Spray Ceramic**
    - Days until failure: 180
    4. **Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell Liquid Wax**
    - Days until failure: 30
The product ratings or '***' indicate top finishers, but this specific information was not uniformly detailed in the extraction results for all products. To identify the best value and best overall coating, we'd typically look for products with the longest durability (days until failure) and consider their cost-effectiveness compared to Turtle Wax's Seal N Shine, for example.
If you have a specific performance metric, cost limit, or other criteria in mind, I can refine this analysis further.

What’s the most impressive coating you’ve tested? I currently install XPEL Fusion Plus with good results. Although I know it’s an outstanding product, I’m also know there’s probably some out there that perform better and last longer.

Fusion won one of my older tests. It is an impressive product indeed. Finicky with humid environments, but definitely lasts.

    • @ScottHD

Most impressive - probably Cquartz UK original (hard to install) and the updated UK 3.0... it has, above all things, been consistent, long lasting, easy to apply, and somewhat inexpensive. (it's not "cheap" but not what I'd call expensive either).

Any opinion on CG Carbon Force? I bought CQuartz Lite per usual for a customer a weekend ago, but got a very expired bottle that was solid crystal. Carbon Force was all I could get on a Sunday in time so it's what went on. Way overpriced at $150/oz I'm sure.

I know this video is old, but couldn't these ceramic coatings have benefited it from a dedicated ceramic soap that keeps the ceramic barrier unclogged and performing its best? I suppose if a customer was to invest in a ceramic coating in the first place, it might be likely that they would also use a dedicated ceramic soap to refresh the barrier every once in a while? Would doing so extend the longevity?
