Monkey Island is an old-school Lucasarts property, about 40 years old by now. Long story short, Lucasfilm is starting to reference dead 90's adventure games because it's all they have left that isn't ruined. The joke is that monkey island pirates were somehow very goofy and villanous at the same time, but it was a goofy game so it was ok. Of course Star Wars should never be that goofy, so this is a bad sign. You're welcome Zoomer
I love the atmosphere of the first two Monkey Island games. Though since the gimmick of the games is that the pirates actively make jokes about just being actors in a theme park, not a good place to find inspiration for Star Wars
Filoni will side with whoever will fund his fanfic. He is a survivor, but the cracks were there in rebels and his live action stuff is poor copies of what came before.

George Lucas should've hired Chris Avellone to take over Star Wars instead of Dave Filoni. Chris not only wrote Knights of The Old Republic II, which is by far the best Star Wars media since the Original Trilogy (ditto for the first KOTOR, but he didn't write that one), but he went above and beyond with researching the franchise just to write that game. He went through practically everything Star Wars-related he could get his hands on to prepare himself, and this was before Wookieepedia even existed. In fact, the first article created for Wookieepedia was for a character from _his_ game! The Handmaiden, if you're wondering which one.
As much as I love it, and as good as KOTOR II is, I don't know if I'd say it alone is the best thing since the OT. KOTOR 1 and 2? Yeah definitely. But KOTOR 2 had its issues. I mean the entire third act of the game was rushed because they had to cut quite a bit.
@@The_Rage_Kage Yes, I should say that both KOTOR games are the best Star Wars media since the Original Trilogy. KOTOR II sadly got rushed out the door for the Christmas season, but that wasn't Chris Avellone's fault. And it still turned out pretty well in spite of the rushed release. And there are mods to restore most of the cut content. But of course, Chris Avellone didn’t write the first KOTOR game, which is why I didn't mention it.

@@Mouse_Metal I think Bo-Katan was wasted potential. The idea of someone betraying their people, only to regret it when its revealed she picked the wrong side is a classic story device When done correctly, it can be amazing. I mean, it mirrors Anakin's story. That reflection could've been interesting and deep. But Filoni couldn't tell a coherent story if we gave him all of eternity to write it.
@@joshmalone7692 The only wasted potential is she wasn´t offed like a villain she is, always was and always will be. That was the original plan. She was just a nameless goon of Pre Vizsla, and the most psychotic and unhinged one, judging from the episode where she was introduced. She has no redeeming qualities. She wasn´t some confused poor victim forced to obey Vizsla, she chose to join the Death Watch and fu*ked her way to the top of the hierarchy because she is a power-hungry narc and sadistic monster who would betray her own sister just because she banned raiding, mass-murdering and plundering. It´s implied (as much as a kids show can imply something like this) the Death Watch doesn´t use the enslaved village girls as servants only but also as se* slav3s. The first thing Bo-Karen did to Ahsoka when she met her was a f-ing se*ual harassment! And there were only female slav3s in the DW camp. What could that imply? Bo-Karen wasn´t supposed to be Satine´s sister originally. She was retconned by Failoni because he loves that psycho Mary Sue too much and wanted to keep her in the show at any cost. Which went directly against Lucas´ wish. His concept for the Mandalorians were good Mandos (Satine´s faction) vs bad Mandos (Death Watch). The evil ones were deliberately portrayed as cartoonishly evil. None of them was supposed to be redeemed. There is also no reason to try to copy Anakin´s/Vader´s story, and it sure as hell can´t work with a "character" who is the opposite of Anakin. Bo-Tox was born into wealth, power and privilege, she had more than other Mandos. There is no reason for her to be a psycho obsessed with power. Especially when her sister turned out normal, so there is not even "her parents were abusive and turned her into a monster" explanation. There is nothing, only a VILLAIN who has never changed and has zero redeeming or relatable characteristics. Even now. Especially now because the longer this villain keeps getting away with her atrocities and the more the characters in universe and people irl (mainly Failoni and Suckhoff) try to ignore or sugercoat the truth and cover it pr0pag4nda-tier interpretation of the events the more frustrating and infuriating it is. Satine, Lucas´ good ruler of Mandalore, is reinterpreted as the one who caused the fall of Mandalore, so is Din´s clan because....they lived on a separate world and didn´t flock to fight for an illegitimate ruler Bo-Tox when she decided to piss-off the empire because of her ego.

Secret of Monkey Island is a LucasArts point and click adventure game from 1990. Quite a many sequels, but the classic ones are from the 90s. A "Monkey Island type pirate" would be cartoonish and wacky. I've never liked Filoni, but at some point I was duped into giving him a chance when all the TCW fans were gushing about the Mandalorian coming out. "Hey, can't be worse than Disney SW has been so far," I thought. Favreau seemed to have a clue, but wether he did or didn't, it didn't really manifest in many meaningful ways.
And this is why it's so hard to enjoy Star Wars mods anymore, so much of it is infested with Filoni's garbage corrupted canon. I don't care if The Clone Wars show had some good content because George was involved, it'll always be seen by me as where Filoni's infestatation of the franchise begun...

I don't think George Lucas is a very good judge of human character. I don't know if he was the one that put these people in charge, but he thought they were going to honor his wishes, and they didn't. Kennedy and Dave
I'd trust Marcia Lucas's opinion over George's any day of the week, she's a real human who knows how to size people up and, let's face it, edit a decent freakin' movie. I'd say she would take one look at Filoni and say "George, there's a loser in a cowboy hat at the door, should I tell him to fuck off?" Star Wars would be in so much better shape if that marriage had have survived. The "kids" (thta's the movies for the dumb dumbs out there, metaphor, look it up) went to shit after the divorce. Crap comics, crap movies, crap cartoons. Crap, crap, crap.
they made the mistake of thinking Lucas was in their way of control and power and wealth, when in reality he was the river bank trying to keep star wars on track so that it would be a profitable venture because he knew the real source of it's power power him, and wasn't the stories, it was the fans it entertained and who bought the merchandising because they liked the stories of star wars. without them it means nothing, just like a river without enough strength and power to put pressure on a dam won't generate enough power to make it worth having a power generation facility there. I’ve been calling Filoni a hack ever since 2008. Ashoka’s mere existence alone breaks canon. Why would the Jedi Council have Anakin, the most reckless, impulsive, and defiant member of the entire order have an apprentice?
To be fair Anakin having an apprentice was Georges decision, (Filoni is a fraud who's influence on TCW is less then he would like you to believe) Dave cannot write and therefore should never be anywhere close to the position he is currently in. Absolute hack.
Well it's part of becoming a Jedi Master, even though it's not required. I wouldn't call it lore breaking though cause it's possible he did have an apprentice. I like Ashoka honestly, and if it were me, I would have killed her off before the events of Ep3. She was becoming a promising Jedi under his apprenticeship and might have helped him stray from the path of the Darkside, but she died on a mission, which helped push him even further down the path.
@@Deuteromis You missed the parts where the Jedi Council throughout the prequel trilogy always expressed doubts about Anakin because he was “too old”, craving adventure and excitement, and the whole chosen one prophecy. The only one that ever went up to bat for him was Obi-Wan. Giving someone that untrusted and irresponsible as Anakin a Padawan, especially during a war, is dumb. The worst part. Ashoka would’ve made far more sense as Plo Koon’s Padawan considering the fact in lore, Plo was never confirmed to have an apprentice. Filoni didn’t care. He wanted to shove his pet character right in the middle of Obi-Wan and Anakin.
@@Captain-Thievius The Council were just wary of Anakin because how powerful he was in the Force and how he could be the Choosen One. With him being older when he joined the order it was because he still had lingering attachments to his mother. I believe giving him an apprentice was a way to help ground him more and not become too arrogant and full of himself. I don't think it's too far of a stretch that Anakin had an apprentice. It's just a shame Filoni doesn't want to kill her off.
@@Deuteromis At least we both agree that Ashoka shouldn’t be alive. In fact, Filoni admitted that Lucas wanted her dead before the events of episode 3 in the behind the scenes TCW season 5 finale.
Ironically, Monkey Island is considered one of the classic games of Lucas Arts. You have to understand, Lucasfilm mastered star wars and indiana jones. those and willow. However Lucas Arts had a wide range of media, from star wars and indiana jones games, they had a ww II flight combat game. Tie Fighter Xwing etc... But Day of the Tentacle, and Monkey Island are considered childhood classics and even enjoyable for adults to play back in the 1990s They were part of the golden period of mid level gaming, wehre technology had reached windows 95 tech and 98 tech, and DOS was doing its thing at its best. it was a golden era of tv too. And Monkey Island is part of that to the PC gamer people, before big console games and high resolution, it was more about a comical situation and story telling. Sort of like THE BIG BANG THEORY, if you replace the audience laugh track with outrageous Fantasy/Fictional elements to entertain people instead of laughter at inappropriate statements. but the humor was more or less on point.
Skeleton Crew looks better than the Acolyte. Sure it leans way to heavily on 80s coming of age adventure movies, but it looks kinda promising. There is a chance it will be good. I give it 50/50.
No it won't have been better set after the Sequels, I don't care about anything in the time, personality I still have hope for Skeleton Crew it's been the only show I was mildly interested since Andor.
Me personally i actually used to like him when he made the clone wars, now I just wish he never make another star wars project again. He lost me at the ahsoka show....and now this.
A lot of people saw Filoni as the savior of Star Wars and I just never saw that. Although conversely I've never been in the he's a total hack camp either. I think he is a competent story teller and does have a better understanding of Star Wars than most. What Filoni severely lacks is that he isn't the genius visionary that George Lucas is and he also doesn't have the creative control that George had. He's a foot soldier who is good at following the orders he's given. I'm not surprised George had him head up The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni would commit to whatever idea he wanted for a story. It takes a guy like George Lucad to commit to making episodes in a children's cartoon about banking. Dave Filoni dutifully executed George's creative orders. Dave Filoni on his own and in charge would make very competent, but also rather pedestrian stories. Nothing terrible, but also nothing that would wow you. That is Star Wars Rebels. Now give him a boss like Kathleen Kennedy and his work will suffer significantly. I think one reason the quality of his work has gotten worse is because the expectations of quality and sticking to the lore at Lucasfilm in general have declined. I think he doesn't care anymore either. The whole story and setting is broken. Why even try. Might as well just inject all your crappy fanfic. As to the lore breaks in The Clone Wars, I'm going to defend Filoni here. It was usually George who didn't care about the old EU content and had no qualms ignoring and replacing it. If George made the Sequels, everything post Episode 6 would have been removed from cannon. It was usually Dave Filoni who would question George on retconning prior EU lore. It seems Filoni resigned and even accepted this situation. The problem is Dave Filoni has taken this to a whole new level. He's even contradicted and undermined his own past work when telling a new story. I guess the question is how much is it him, or the current environment at Lucasfilm.
Look, I don't blame him for that one. That was pure studio meddling just like Iron Man 3. So Idk on that one. An amazing point and click game from Lucasfims studios.
The shills will come after you if you say anything bad about skeleton crew😅 Monkey Islands are really good adventure games made by Lucasarts which was Georges Lucas video game company. They made some really excellent video games which they closed down. Bob Iger said we are just starting to get into the game market😂
I know it’s trendy to dislike Dave Filoni but honestly I’m more indifferent to the guy nowadays. Only thing he’s done decently was the Jet episode from Last Airbender. Clone Wars was meh. I preferred the micro series and the old EU comics. He tends to repurpose things from that and claim he created them. And really Rebels and Clone Wars were successful because he has other capable individuals like Greg Weismann on board. Just look at the Ahsoka TV series? By himself he can’t do much.
Although Filoni might be right about the master thing (Kinda, I didn't watch that discussion, but) Yoda told Luke that once he faces his father again, he will be a Jedi. That's a jedi knigt. A master is sorta, kinda, level above and it is not entirely clear in the classic Star Wars movie cannon, what does a jedi master even mean once the jedi order is gone.
why do all the blasters look like one shot flintlock pistols? Is it because they are pirates? I guess that is the limits of their imagination shouldn't be surprised but i kinda am.

You are a phenomenal intellectual and I am sure we would be great friends in the real world. Keep it coming - yep, Filoni is just terrible. I suspect that the big driving genius behind Clone Wars was Lucas. Season 7 was garbage - especially the first half. I was a fan of Ahsoka during the main part of the series, but the aftermath bonding and focus on Anakin's relationship with her is phony and contrived.

I don't get what you're so offended about. The shistavanen is straight from the cantina scene in episode IV. Steve Erkel? I don't care one way or the other, but it's just one character. That really makes or breaks it for you? Maybe it'll be crap. I dunno. But I'll reserve judgement until I've actually watched it.
Disney/ Lucasfilm if you hire me the following will happen because it’s a goal for it to happen. 1. A Lucasfilm series of movies will out pace The Infinity Saga movies. 2. Lucasfilm releases will solve problems for Disney / Lucasfilm and not make them. 3. Lucasfilm will contribute to wiping out at least one quarter of Disney’s total current debt within a decade through successful productions, partnerships, and products and services. If I was writing at Lucasfilm those are the goals I’d focus among others, that’s what I’d like to achieve at Lucasfilm as a writer of stories for movies.
George Lucas has said time and time and time again “Star Wars is for children” Heaven forbid a show (out of 5 movies and 10 shows recently) this live action show tries to recapture that youthful childlike theme. I never understood the mentally of trying to rip apart and destroy something you don’t like. Just don’t acknowledge it man. Forget about it. Move on with your day. Instead you’re using a screenshot saying this whole thing is emotionless and Dave filoni sucks???? Like the trooper says “Move along. Move along”
and that's where some people make the mistake. Star Wars is for children, but some people don't think Children need complex and interesting shows. George Lucas knows otherwise. If you want smart kids, you give them complex shows that are difficult to follow. You give them barney and simplistic shows too long and you get garbage results. Kids need to be challenged intellectually or they won't grow and develop properly. Lucas knew this, and fought to make sure kids had good quality media that was complex, and had politics, and the consequences of peoples selfish actions. He gave modern fairy tales that taught the importance of doing the right thing, and that life isn't always fair, but we always have to make the righteous choices even if it is painful, or it causes things to be worse for others. George Lucas is a good man and a wonderful merchant of fantasy and fiction. He is a good story teller and producer. He is a good guardian of morality and prosperity.
So according to you children deserve garbage rolemodels like the sociopath Bo-Karen, the Crapolyte witches and Darth Dickus, Dangerhair Mary Sue, arrogant brat Ahwoka who is loved by everyone despite her bad behavior...

Monkey Island was a Lucas art video game. It was very beloved.
And now it looks like they are referencing it because it's something Disney hasn't ruined yet since they purchased Lucasfilm and Lucasarts? 😬
I love the atmosphere of the first two Monkey Island games. Though since the gimmick of the games is that the pirates actively make jokes about just being actors in a theme park, not a good place to find inspiration for Star Wars

I've been saying this for over a decade lol

The idea of someone betraying their people, only to regret it when its revealed she picked the wrong side is a classic story device
When done correctly, it can be amazing.
Satine, Lucas´ good ruler of Mandalore, is reinterpreted as the one who caused the fall of Mandalore, so is Din´s clan because....they lived on a separate world and didn´t flock to fight for an illegitimate ruler Bo-Tox when she decided to piss-off the empire because of her ego.

they made the mistake of thinking Lucas was in their way of control and power and wealth, when in reality he was the river bank trying to keep star wars on track so that it would be a profitable venture because he knew the real source of it's power power him, and wasn't the stories, it was the fans it entertained and who bought the merchandising because they liked the stories of star wars. without them it means nothing, just like a river without enough strength and power to put pressure on a dam won't generate enough power to make it worth having a power generation facility there.
But Day of the Tentacle, and Monkey Island are considered childhood classics and even enjoyable for adults to play back in the 1990s
They were part of the golden period of mid level gaming, wehre technology had reached windows 95 tech and 98 tech, and DOS was doing its thing at its best. it was a golden era of tv too.

True, not long ago there were many comments about Filoni going to save Star Wars!
I like TCW because it was George’s story not FAILoni’s.

So according to you children deserve garbage rolemodels like the sociopath Bo-Karen, the Crapolyte witches and Darth Dickus, Dangerhair Mary Sue, arrogant brat Ahwoka who is loved by everyone despite her bad behavior...

are you really arguing that jar jar slipping on poodoo and getting farted on is better than the clone wars show? does george treat vader with respect by writing him as a 10 year old playing in a box car race or having him throw temper tantrums over bad dreams? is boba fett improved by having him be one of millions of literal clones of some other guy? is alec guinness's character better after we see him chop anakin's legs off and leave his "brother " to burn alive in a volcano instead of delivering the mercy killing? does it make any sense the "ancient religion" of the jedi were the space police, running around in the thousands all over the galaxy leading a grand war 20 years prior?
the clone wars show is so much better than george's films that it has retroactively made that "era" seem good. you don't have to like everything filoni does, but pretending the clone wars show made star wars worse is so transparently desperate for hate that you might as well upload a 6 hour video where you just say "new bad old good" repeatedly. i'm sure the ad revenue will be worth it.
All of that is far better than Failoni´s toxic fanfic about his pet Mary Sues.
