- Ultimate Snowbike/Snowmobile Adventure Gear Guide - Wranglerstar in the PNW
Hey, fellow adventurers, Wranglerstar here! In today's video, I'm taking you through my personal checklist for a snowbike/snowmobile trip in the beautiful backcountry of the Pacific Northwest. From my well-maintained snowbike to the essential helmet with a visor and insulated gloves, I’ve got you covered. I always suit up in a waterproof and insulated snowmobile suit, complete with sturdy, warm boots, and don't forget those handlebar hand warmers for extra comfort.
Safety is my top priority, so I’m equipped with an avalanche transceiver, probe, and snow shovel, alongside a trusty first aid kit. I never ride without my emergency whistle, multi-tool, and a flashlight or headlamp for those darker trails. And, a fire extinguisher is a must-have for any unexpected situations.
Survival in the wilderness is all about being prepared. That's why I pack an emergency blanket, water purification essentials, high-energy food, and a compact stove. Sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellent are small but critical items in my pack. And in a pinch, a small mirror can be a lifesaver for signaling.
Comfort during the ride is key, so I layer up with thermal underwear, fleece or wool, and pack extra socks. A neck gaiter keeps the chill out, and sunglasses protect against the bright snow glare. I carry all my personal items, including identification and some cash, in a waterproof backpack.
Navigation in the PNW’s vast wilderness is crucial. My GPS device, along with a traditional topographic map and compass, keeps me on track. And I stay connected with the world using two-way radios or a satellite communicator.
Of course, hydration and nutrition are vital, so I carry an insulated water bottle and plenty of snacks. For those longer rides, a portable water filter is essential.
And what's an adventure without capturing those breathtaking moments? I bring along my camera, spare batteries, and a power bank. Plus, a repair kit, tow strap, and a notebook are always in my pack, just in case.
Join me as I delve into each item's importance and share my personal experiences using them in the wild, rugged terrain of the PNW. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more outdoor adventure content. Your comments and tips are always welcome!

Like the coat where'd you aquire it
When Cody says "Ah shucks, I'm not properly geared up ", he's already carrying ten times the number of items that the average guy normally carries into the back country.
Im blown away at the amount of stuff this man can afford. Im doing well, but this guy is killing it. Teach me
youtubers make tons of money...look at what whistlindiesel and others with similiar numbers can afford...except he doesn't waste it on that, he buys into being prepared.
Get yourself a successful TH-cam channel with 2.5 million subscribers and you can afford all this stuff too.
I feel like you guys are downplaying someone who has worked INCREDIBLY hard for over a decade.
Even if youtube pays 2-3¢ per view it takes so much money in equipment; knowledge in filming, editing, and lighting; and the government works hard to take 30%+ of everything.
He also is a full time father/husband and has to maintain his ranch while doing all of this for us.
We are the blessed ones to get to watch this stuff.
The statement "you tubers are rich" seems negative, liberal, and gereralizing from someone who is jealous.
@@njerseydavidhe also had money he EARNED before youtube asswell
Not every TH-cam makes a ton of money, I'm sure he does very well though. Remember that everything you buy for the channel is a tax write off, and some things get sent for free. Fulltime youtubers probably put in more hours than the average 50 hour a week person but it's fun work so the pay makes up for it.
You are amazingly prepared. One suggestion, consider keeping your tourniquet more accessible. If you need it, you may only have a minute or two to apply it. You also could be injured or stuck with limited mobility. I carry mine in a pants pocket. Love the channel. God bless you and yours.
tourniquets should also be visible ideally if someone else needs to apply it to you
No back up emergency toupee?
he’s some part native american. Thats real hair
My heated glove option today was holding the tractor muffler. Worked great.
Appreciate the effort this guy puts into getting kitting up. "Better safe than screwed!"
👍👍
I can't help but wonder what the incredible cost is for going into the backwoods "prepared".
The snowbike storage gave me the fizz with the voleo straps and fuel bag.. very sharp setup
beloved brother - you need extra pair or two of wool socks - dry feet are so important - they can be good for more than feet too. Get some wool socks in there.
Heated bars?!? Ok so thats the thing that got me this video. This guy literally has everything. Honestly is there anything you don’t have.
Pretty common especially on snowmobiles
His own natural hair...
@@LeroyJenkins-ul1kbhe shaved his head on a video, he has a full head of hair
How recent was that?
A wife that loves him
Excellent Cody, you are a great teacher on being well prepared for any eventuality in the mountains 👍😀
Cody having watched a lot of your videos I know you don’t go anywhere unprepared 👍
We need a backcountry snowbike video!
Random question because it’s been years and I’ve forgotten names. Anyone else been here since the dozer/wood forge/ fresh p days?
Yes I have since before he moved into his other house
Man. I thought golf and skiing are expensive. This is another level. Sounds very fun though.
Being prepared for life to happen is a price worth paying. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
Impressive gear and set up! How do you pour the 1 gallon bladder? It looks like it would disastrous to try and freehand.
they mention it because they care. you will come back . and bring anyone who needs your help . god bless you and family . good luck to jack .
I ATV, and this is what happens when you experience issues. Not necessarily you, but you see an issue and the kit expands. And then you know when you do have an issue, you'll get through it.
Some much advanced tech. I love it!
I carry pretty much the same stuff ! Nice kit
You should put a little piece of sandpaper with the steel epoxy stick it’s hard to get to stick sometimes if it’s to smooth
Great pack. Only thing i would add is a jet boil and 2 refills for it. Will fit in that pack no problem and can help melt and boil snow for extra water in case of emergency or freezing and will last a long time . And if you have the space could also throw a couple packs of top ramen in there for emergencies or just some warm calories.
Were did you buy that Avalanche gear pack Cody 15:23 @WranglerStar
Fascinating, great video. I carry basic stuff I’m my truck for around home but load it up if i travel far at all
I’m glad for you to have gotten into a fun sport such as the snow bikes! 😃 I’m still old school sledding, newest machine, a 2005 600, oldest a 1993 580 special vintage, now replacing the rubber carb boots on it, the recoil rope & rubber safety shut off plug two years ago. 😝
The older the machine, the more wrenching it requires to keep them going. Not a fan of having to wrench on things, especially when obsolete & parts are harder to get ahold of!!! 😑
Thank you excellent presentation..have a good night..
Your last snow clearing livestream recording was pulled at about a little over the half way mark, while I was watching. Screen just suddenly went grey and "Video Unavailable"displayed. Any explanations? Did you pull it, or did You Tube?
This is a very capable man from his knowledge and experience alone with tools. Won’t go into the back country like most noobs, Ppl voice their jealous. he’s doing his thing ✌🏾
Others have said it, and I'm going to agree. Its very wise to keep that tourniquet on your person as well. If you need it, you need it quick. In the army, we kept it on us when on mission, and we also kept it prepped and pre-looped so you can put it on with just one hand.
Proho, is there any way you can assemble an all pnw made kit? Its an idea I've had but can't afford but I definitely think its possible
I’m so grateful for this channel and all of this info. Thanks Cody
I find it hilarious you carry an extra shifter. I broke a shifter on my dirt bike down by Moab in the middle of a hail storm. I was stuck in second gear trying to outrun flash flooding.
If I had the cash flow, I still couldn't think to buy all this stuff. And this is just one of Cody's hobbies 😮
Hard working proho. He is worth every gear he bought. Cody is a beacon in this world.
Anyone else wondering why Wranglerstar has not gotten into Hestra gloves? They are Swedish, quality, appealing to the eye. Seems like a perfect fit.
It really hits my ocd hard when everything is the wrong way in the background
Yeah I'm watching him say left hand when he's holding up his right hand, throttle hand and he's holding up his left hand.
But I didn't let it bother me too bad, cuz I'm pretty sure he knows the difference between his right hand and his left hand lol.
I loved the snow stream ❤❤
Very nice setup and great preparedness. On the other hand it’s a great example of how dependent man has become on “stuff” in every aspect of life when compared to our ancestors. Comforts and convenience has eroded mankind’s ability to survive without a dependency on “stuff “….this is not a knock to anyone, I include myself in this category. 😢
Knowledge is the most important thing to carry.
Can you please also make a summer truck kit?
I know one of his early videos addressed his disdain for the "must be nice" comments but damn. No amount of budgeting or eating in or canceling monthly subscriptions would allow me the extra money to afford any of that.
I was just looking at random gear on Amazon after watching this. Somehow, I came across night vision goggles and I thought of you. You should do the cheapest night vision goggles vs you're bad mamma jammas?? Might be cool 😎
Thanks for the gear video!
Canyon Country Cycle gives us the same type of key fobs they’re tough as nails. I use them all the time too.
I may not agree with your choice of music, but I sure learn a lot regarding some unique equipment.
Man I have a 3.3G / 12L tunnel can for fuel and lately we’ve been each bringing up a 5L standard jerry can full of fuel to leave trail side and top off before we head up to to alpine/backcountry and our rides can still be cut short by not enough fuel and making sure we make it back to the truck. Snow gets pretty deep here though I’m about an hour and a half from RevelStoke.
Big boy saw are great! Survivalrussia got me on them
Very impressive! I can only imagine the real time and money required putting this equipment together. Did I miss the traditional compass? GPS is not 100% reliable.
He mentioned map and compass at the end of the demonstration he gave of his Navigation preps.
I guess I’ll just have to stick to messing around in my garage with axe handles….
Is the snow bike better than a traditional snow mobile? I don’t live in a snowy area. Is it a different experience? What’s the point? As someone who knows nothing about snow it seems like a lot of work switching that machine over every year.
They are better at side-hilling. (Traversing across steep slopes) A traditional deep snow mountain snowmobile will have more power and do better in deep powder. Personally, I would just buy a proper snowmobile if I had the money because that is what they are designed for. Dirt bikes are not really designed for winter riding.
Its a challenge and more if a workout like moto- cross. Must be in superb physical shape to ride steady for any period of time.
The more you know, the less you need! You know a lot !! Greetings from Austria (The one without the kangaroos).
Cody can you try putting chalk on a file? I wanna know your opinion, it should prevent the file from clogging
Ever think about vacuum sealing the down and thermal layer?
This is chock full of sweet tips
In the seventies we had a cream u rubbed on the inside of the visor it worked great
I always Wondered about the snow bike I snowmobile and they look kind of slow whats the benefit over a regular 850 mountain sled ?
New heated Google brand,Tempest optics, the heating is in the frame, along with the battery, so no delicate wires from lenses, and they run off sensors, so they don't run all day, you fog up, they turn on, and back off. Battery lasts at least 12 hours, with usb-c charging in the goggle frame, no bulky external battery pack
One day westcoast man may evolve to using chad eastcoast snowmachines rather then the virgin “snow bike”. Must be nice.
Good on you (I guess) for making this video. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to do your own risk assessment. No one can do this for you. Similarly, no one can (rather no one should) criticize your judgement, since it’s your life you’re protecting. Like they say, “haters gonna hate.” I suppose that even the haters have the opportunity to learn from your detailed explanation. Perhaps they will.
Thank the Lord that you can afford all this equipment. You are truly Blest to be able to purchase all of this. i am just curious what the total cost is to be so well prepared. .
Cody, was this filmed on that 15’s forward facing camera?
Cody you’re the man💪❤😊
What's with all the One Wheels? Obviously not too useful in the winter. But I'd be curious how they would fit into a "scenario" . 🤙
Why do they have to fit into any "scenario" besides simple enjoyment?
Have you looked at the Garmin Tread? It's designed for off-road
That Avalanche beacon seems quite invaluable along with the airbag.
I wonder how much that prescription lens cost for those goggles.
you can get em for 2-300$
Who else thought he might mention getting roasted about the purse video??? Lol love your stuff though sir. I’m a fan!
Praying for you and yours
Why?
@@justplain8793 because
16:08 how do you pull the ripcord with your left hand if its on your left shoulder? When you show us how to pull it you are using your right hand.
I saw the video. All I would have had on me was a water bottle and maybe a snickers. And the water bottle would have been filled with tap water.
God bless you sir
If you don't test yourself without gear you never know your capabilities. Anyone that doesn't do that will never be able to adapt, overcome, and survive. They live a weak and careful life
Ram mounts are pretty good mounting systems as well
I would like to see a video of really putting your kits to the test in real environment. Like test or survival video.
I can't remember how much channel crossover you like to do. It would be a distance but I'd love to see you crossover with Outdoor Gear Review, he doesn't take sponsors at all and tells people how good or bad products are. But he's on the East Coast, i think SC.
Work with an "East Coast man"?? Ooh, thats a stretch!
Duuuuuude 🙌 I alway thought myself a gear head, but you sir are the king 👑 of gear ⚙️ heads 🎉🎉 so awesome - Cheers!!
Just curious why you and many other TH-camrs mirror image your videos? I'm sure there's a reason but can sometimes be confusing when you refer to your right side or left side and it's the other arm. Keep up the great work!
Do you ever have any problems with those magnetic lenses on the goggles? They look like a good jarring could knock them off.
If you got a bag of jerky, some fritos, and a slug of water, you're good!
What happened to your grandfather's advice to travel lightly...
You should hear him sing "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver".
Those heating packs are trash. I used em last week and was not impressed. That was straight on my hands in my wool jacket.
I'd look for some and try them before you commit to the space they take
What made you go timber sled instead of snowmobile?
“Here at the base of Mt Fuji….”
What's up with that capacitor compressor. How does that work? What do you mean capacitors stay ready when you need them? Did I wake up in a different world all of a sudden?
Hey Cody, you probably already know but your FB page looks like it has been hacked. Someone is posting obscene videos on your story on FB. I know this has been happing a lot lately to people like you with lots of followers. Unfortunately, others have had a very difficult time getting Facebook to fix it. I wish you the best of luck. -Todd
The boys love their toys.
Instead of contact lens/glasses, you may look into getting Lasik. I did it in my late 30s, and is worth every penny. Wish I had done it decades ago.
@@hnewc1919 That’s an uninformed opinion. The risks of being left unable to see while in public from losing glasses/contacts is exponentially higher than any potential risks from lasik, most of which are minor side effects.
Damn voice texting on this stoopid smart phone.
That should have said "slide in" new lenses
Ask Whistlein deisel
@@JonGollakner Just watched his video. He must happen to be the 0.3% who have complications. OR maybe it’s just that his entire existence revolves around making videos for views and he’s exaggerating/creating drama like he does for all of his videos.
You need 2 of those hats! Every pot needs a lid! LOL
I haven't been too pleased with Trail Tech, my first unit had a busted screen some numbers wouldn't show. Also my engine temp would read zero. Second unit worked and its been a few months and there is moisture inside the screen now.. Bike is in the garage always, never sprayed it with a pressure washer or anything. Wouldn't buy another.
Whomever said he "wasn't prepared " he sure showed you!
cody: "just what i need and nothing more" .................."i'm a minimalist"🤣😂😆
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
I embrace the madness, but my safety strategy is to save the riding for weather conditions that won't kill me.
I’m assuming your Facebook was hacked. Sorry bud. I noticed the story. It’s a shame the unnecessary things we have to deal with for no complete reason from the boredom of others. Godspeed sir!
That’s always how it goes though. The ONE TIME you don’t bring something, even if it’s a thing you’ve never had to use before, THATS when you end up needing it. From a pair of sunglasses to a fire arm.
You know those combat shirts that 5.11 does? Would like to see someone make a plaid version of it. Just a blatant knock off but with various colors of plaid.
on average how high on the mountain do u go meaning ur average elevation when riding
Like to know the total cost of all his gear… really cool stuff!
This guy made the US Forestry Service file chapter 11! 😂😂😂
💯
Actually the Beacon brand does matter, as some avy beacon manufacturers, like black diamond, and pieps, support closing the backcountry to motorized use. BCA is motorsports friendly!
