People say that the movie is bad because there wasn't intended to be a sequel and there was nowhere to go with it. I think they could've easily made a fantastic sequel to Joker. Another story in the same world, just with more polish and building on things that worked well in the first film. I really liked the world of the first film and the sporadic use of violence as it made the occasional gunfight or fight scene really effective. They could've just made another crime story, maybe even make Arthur become a vigilantly or hitman for the mob or something. Anything but this!
It's the extra half a star for me 😂 I love you two. Honest reviews are refreashing. I can say without seeing this film that my favorite part would've been the end. It's a no thank you for me.
I will never understand why they ever decided to make a part two. The first part is perfect. Dark. Solid. Everything we wanted. This second part was not wanted or needed. 😒
Todd Philips to all of us: "How dare you like and appreciate my movie and shower me with accolades and money!! I wanted to look like an @$$hole!! Here, hold my soy latte..."
They gave us the set up for Two Face but his face wasn’t destroyed to make him Two Face. And there wasn’t even a nod to Bruce Wayne who is still around, I suppose. They can’t be thinking of adding to this version of the DC Universe.
You know Todd Phillips actually did documentaries before comedy. He directed the documentary about GG Allin in 1993 a short while before he overdosed. He only started doing comedy because that’s where the money was at. When comedy stopped being lucrative, he went back to drama.
I remember that documentary. Vividly. What a shame that so many of the director’s films since have been tepid and forgettable. His Joker should have remained a one and done feature.
Film studios should hire you guys to review their stories to ensure they make sense .. you both are great. Todd should of known better or did but didn't care.
So I’m late seeing this in the cinema. I saw it today at a 12:40 showing, one other man bought a ticket after me. He ate his popcorn and got up and left- this was prior to the trial starting. 😅
I didn’t dislike the film as much as you guys but can appreciate the criticisms you raise. My favorite part was actually the music, and I wouldn’t have minded more of it lol (may be some bias as a Gaga fan). Regardless, been a fan of you guys since 2019 and have loved watching y’all’s channel continue to grow
Was this movie trying to win an award for worst sex scene in a film? Also remember Lee tells Arthur she's pregnant afterwards and then it never gets brought up again and never goes anywhere. What was the point of that?
idk i don’t think the sex scene was supposed to be “hot”. it read as desperate for validation on arthur’s part and obsessive on lee’s part. the pregnancy was more or less manipulation tactic
That joke at the very end of the video. Lolllll. Cuz he quit a movie days before they started filming. He caused so many problems for everyone involved in that movie....
Somehow I knew when I saw Lady Gaga in the trailer, that this would fail epically across the board. Nothing against her as an artist, but it’s almost like Warner said, “Fcuk the fans, featuring Gaga 🤣🤣” Great review by the way! For those who haven’t seen this subpar sequel, and barely go through the first film, thank you for saving us 2:18 of sanity 😂😂😂.

Thanks for the review! I can answer 1 question you ask. As for the rest of the nonsense on display in the movie concerning the court system makes no sense.

Even though Gaga was just a hired actress here, its a shame her film career will now be derailed, at least for some time, because of the stain of Gucci and Joker. I don't know how many offers she's gotten but a better agent may be necessary. She has incredible potential as a dramatic musical actress or maybe even comedy. Time to just focus on music. Joseph and Nick are amongst the handful who just don’t sugarcoat it and DGAF if we (the audience) like their opinion. Not all, but too many of the ones I’ve seen are the PC way of giving a review.
@@jacobstaten2366 It’s worse with Megalopolis. Yes, there’s plenty saying “it’s garbage”, but there’s also a portion of people who “feel bad” to be that blunt, because it’s Francis Ford Coppola. So they’re trying to still say “I didn’t like it” or “I hated it”, but in a beat around the bushes way. And I’m not a fan of that way of reviewing. They keep seeking something to love and are noncommittal in their words.
@@simplyrowen I always found that kind of strange. Each individual film or piece of art should stand on its own regardless of the source. Everything should be in a vacuum. That's why I never understood people who listen to an entire album by the same band. Sometimes I have trouble finding more than one song on an album that I like, let alone an entire album.
Just watched this! I avoided it in the states after all the reviews, but in Japan this was one of the only movies playing in English (haha). I'm excited to go back to the states and watch this in IMAX, I really enjoyed it! I liked the first half a bit more than the second. The court scenes dragged a bit, but I think it was important that it did! It's showing us how Arthur is performing on this stage/platform he's always wanted! Not in a courtroom per say, but with an audience that "loves" him. It was interesting seeing him be so rehearsed and childlike while representing himself, and watching Arthur slowly figure out the disconnect. I also loved the musical numbers and unashamedly put a few on my playlists.
It’s my understanding that the filmmakers never really wanted to make a sequel. This is what happens when your project makes a billion dollars and the studio forces you make another movie.
I just saw it last night and my entire friend group couldn’t even lie and say it was good. I wish there was more of Harley’s story line and maybe they should’ve used an unknown actress for Quinn. But it had a lot of potential and just went downhill. The only good scene in my opinion was the Joker court scene with him and Gary
I enjoyed this film so much I saw it twice. For everyone complaining about and questioning why it was a musical- the first film had Arthur’s delusions portrayed as fantasies about a 70s-ish late night talk show. In this new film they continued that theme by extending those delusions to fantasies of a 60s/70s Sonny and Cher type variety show. Why?? Because the movie makers chose to introduce the essential character Harley Quinn from the comic books at this point in the Joker timeline. Gaga made for a great Harley even if there had been no music. Her intensity and facial expressions added a magic to the character. But, if u are lucky enough to get a Lady Gaga in your film, you’re gonna utilize all the Gaganess. Could anyone else have done those musical scenes as a duo with better chemistry? The “boring-ness” of the court room scenes is supposed to be a striking contrast to Arthur’s fantasy world. His childlike responses and doodles are supposed to be building a case for the audience to view Arthur as an abused child, even if the jury doesn’t. It’s our opportunity to feel empathetic towards him. The guards also treat him like a child, and abuse him. His lawyer and psych evaluator (both women) were the only nurturing characters in the film and Arthur who was clearly uncomfortable and unfamiliar with their kindness pushed them both away. Harley represented a similar manipulative relationship like Arthur was used to with his mother, which is why he was comfortable with her. Her fascination/obsession with him stems from her psychology background, and Arthur is the ultimate case study. Her fantasy was to live inside the mind of the Joker. Once he denounces Joker (her muse), there is nothing left for her curious mind to study. They both gave great dramatic & musical performances. I think the ending was perfect, as the director has already confirmed that there will be no part 3. He stated that his version of the Joker story is complete. I loved that it was a musical. Much more reminiscent of Batman ‘89 which has a full Prince soundtrack. I’m not a fan of the Dark Night graphic novel type Batman films at all. Give me a colorful cartoonish comic book BAM! POW! 💥 Additionally- to answer how did she get in the cell- she says the guard let her in, to where she states “I’d do anything for u”. To me it implies she exchanged a sexual favor with the guard. It was also implied that the guards sexually assaulted Arthur which is what finally broke him down at the end. That is the major theme of the film- a psychological study of a man who had been abused physically, emotionally, and sexually his entire life, and how he managed to cope with that trauma. It’s a full blown example of how the human mind is capable of splitting and fracturing in order to cope with extreme trauma. I think the character of Arthur/Joker portrays this “disorder”beautifully in this film, especially with Joaquin as the actor. I’ll probably see it a third time. It’s okay for us to disagree, the Fish Jelly boys are still my favorite reviewers ❤️❤️❤️
The musical part is to represent the “fantasy” that Gaga talks about on the last scene. A little bit like in “Dancer in the Dark” the musical world is the escape.

The humour is on point, and I love all of the random inserted facts. The love of film is very evident here. I am definitely becoming a huge fan!! Subscribed!! Looking forward to more content! 😁
Thank you so much for the kind words!
@@fishjellyfilmreviews yayyy you got this!! Of course! 😁
that glen powell shirt is perfect, wish it featured his little dog tho
“ I don’t like one moment in the film “ 😂😂😂😂😂
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A GREAT TIME-
1. THE CORNDOG MAN
2. THE LAST BIG THING
BOTH FANTASTIC CULT CLASSICS
Oh wow, nice Glen Powell shirt Joseph!
A lot of TH-camrs are dancing around what they truly think and I hate that. Just serve it straight! And I love that you guys are just THAT. Utterly and unapologetically honest 👏🏼 🪭
Really? Most of my favs said they hated it. Lol.
@@katen5598 The people I have seen did express they didn’t like it, but a lot of them did in the “I don’t want to piss off the people who did like it, nor alienate any followers, so I’m gonna find nice words to express I didn’t like it, and add disclaimers that not all is bad”. Joseph and Nick are amongst the handful who just don’t sugarcoat it and DGAF if we (the audience) like their opinion. Not all, but too many of the ones I’ve seen are the PC way of giving a review.
Film Threat also panned it outside of one guy who said he liked it halfway through.
I guess I just have seen a completely different film to most because I absolutely loved this - possibly better than the first.
I’ve been waiting for this review! Y e s !!

2:09 ….I also like Joe-a-keen!
I want my 2 hours back.
Agreed. Gary’s performance was the only scene where I felt something
POW! 💥
Additionally- to answer how did she get in the cell- she says the guard let her in, to where she states “I’d do anything for u”.
It's funny you guys chose an image from a scene that is featured very heavily in the marketing but completely absent in the movie.
The musical part is to represent the “fantasy” that Gaga talks about on the last scene. A little bit like in “Dancer in the Dark” the musical world is the escape.
I hated the 1st film so I'm happy this isn't good. I'm a hater 🤷🏾♂️
You may want to see the first one
Joker was so good that for me, it would be an insult to watch this "sequel".
I need some of Nick's enthusiasm to start my day 😳😆
I’m not a fan of lady Gaga so I’ll wait till this comes out on HBO max, I thought this movie looked boring based on previews. I loved the first one
