No kidding, this was for the best. Now, not only can Becca do anything she wants; we also get to see much more of her than when she was with The Verge. 🔥
@@arnoldmbuthia2687 yeah for sure, it's been 5 years since sony gave xperias a camera button so you'd expect some innovation there but the core QOL functionality of not having to swipe to/search for the camera app anymore is what 90% of users will remember and care about
Thanks, Becca. This certainly is worth subscribing. Just did. I'm a retired Pro-Photog, owned a large, 3-camera room studio for 4 decades. And now, as always for everyone, the best camera to use is the one you have with you. The iPhone is always in my pocket, and yes, I will be ordering an iPhone 16 Max - even though I have small hands. :-Don
even with no interest in Apple devices whatsoever, I immediately clicked this video to watch Becca's take on things... love the energy, please do keep it up!
Also wanted to echo what others are saying: glad to see you going your own way. By the end of it, your videos on The Verge were just about the only ones I looked forward to. I’d say you’re the only “tech” channel I care to subscribe to, but your videos feel more personal than “tech.” Keep doing what you’re doing.
One of the best things about you going solo on YT is that I see more of you promoted on my feed now. A welcome change. After two years on iPhone 14 Pro Max, again wondering if I will "feel the difference" by upgrading; it all points to "probably not". I'll need some hands-on time with the new phones once they pop in the stores.
I hope you soon get to the phase where you get all the early preview of devices to have the full review at the same time as the rest. Love your content.
Big handed person here, I like having the bigger phones, but never really care to upgrade. I’ve been on a 13 pro max since it came out and still feel solid. I am a photo boy at heart, so the camera control is tempting too. I can’t wait to see more reviews on it
I went from hating to absolutely loving the new photos app. It was overwhelming for how organized i am with photos but now that i have what i need moved to be easier to get im digging it!
Love that TH-cam put this video on my home page less than 1 minute after you posted it!! The algorithm is algorithming to perfection! It's very interesting how Apple keeps leaning more and more into trying to sell its Pro iPhones as professional filmmaking equipment. I get that they are, to some extent, but I don't really see any other smartphone manufacturers leaning so heavily on that aspect of a smartphone's capabilities!
Seems like you picked the perfect time to start your solo career 😁 This iPhone release with Camera Control has your name written all over it! Looking forward to your full review 😍 Let’s go 🔥🔥🔥
I enjoyed your take on the new iPhone 16 lineup. I’m really excited about the camera upgrades as well. I feel the iPhone 16 Pro will be a nice bump up from my iPhone 13 Pro, and to my video and photography equipment in general. Thank you.
As a Fuji and Ricoh boi, I’m really excited for the photographic styles. It’s kinda like they’re adding their own film simulations to the stock camera, and they look pretty great, and I’m looking forward to making some recipes for it. I had played around with them before, and you’re only able to adjust a few parameters, and they were a little limited. And yes the photos app is a mess, and it takes too long to get where I want haha
Hey Becca. I always liked you on the Verge. But now, on your own, you are becoming a superstar. Your voice and personality are shining through at a whole other level. Keep it up. You have suddenly become the freshest new voice in tech. Did I mention that you are really lovable and adorable and it all comes through on your videos. Plus, you know your stuff. I am looking forward to your review of the new Pro. I have a 14 Pro Max and tried to shoot a wedding in RAW last year. The slowness drove me crazy and I totally lamented not bringing my "real" camera. Best of luck on your new adventure. Pretty sure that it will work out fine.
They upgraded the cameras hardware in iphone 16 seies ( the sensors ) but not the software image processing. They use "smart hdr 5", the same as in iphone 15 series. Same algorithm for the second year. So basically you can expect the same hdr-y contrasty & crushed shadows image look as last year. With that said, can't wait for ur in details review.
I honestly think Photographic Styles are one of the most underrated features on iOS. Nobody talks about them, but when I still had an iPhone 13 Pro I set the phone to Rich-Cool and I was blown away. It was a subtle difference, but one I greatly preferred and it made it feel like all my photos had almost a personal vibe compared to my friends'. Big fan.
I had a Sony phone 10 years ago that had that shutter release button, the half click to lock focus was great, like a real camera and the Nokia phones I had before. Can’t believe Apple and others didn’t implement a camera button before, I know the volume rocker can be used as a shutter release button but it doesn’t have the half click or any special features. Anyway, I’m eager to see your tests!
Great video, thanks! Looking forward to seeing how you find that audio mix feature works out in practice. Sometimes it's just easiest to video straight from the phone and not use external mics or recorders and sync them up, in those unprepared moments when you'd use just the phone, or maybe not record it at all - audiomix might be a massive help. Still love my iPhone 13 mini though, urgh, 5.4" is enough.
I would love for you to compare the Pixel lineup with the new iPhones. At best, I still think that the new iphone 16 lineup is more of an iterative update rather than a "wowie!" upgrade compared to the Pixel phones.
One of the most exciting things about seeing you go solo Becca will be seeing you review these top tier devices. Will be great to have more reviews of these devices from a creator/photography/videography perspective!
I’m the one who uses Photography Styles from 13 pro max and from last year on 15 pro max. I really like and enjoy them. However for sure 15 pro max was able to handle the new feature but it’s apple that limited them just for iPhone 16 models.
I think Apple saw the rising popularity of compact cameras (Ricoh, Fuji, Canon G7x, etc.) and decided to take a step in that direction with the physical camera button. And 2nd gen Photographic Styles are maybe their attempt at film sims... the presenter today said they are "based on past and present photography aesthetics"
Loved your phone reviews when you were on The Verge. They don't hit the same since you left! Glad you're out there doing your own thing. I can't wait to see your future content on this channel :)
I found photographic styles very useful. I just set it to standard with a bit of warmer WB and forget about it. Can't imagine using it for anything else but that tbh.
Thank God the cameras are the same! I refused to buy the iPhone 15 Pro last year because I didn't want an inferior camera, but I don't want that massive Pro Max "phone" either. The Max is closer to an iPad Mini than an iPhone IMO
The 5x zoom lens was already behind Samsung and Google when it launched on the iPhone 15. So disappointed that they didn’t upgrade it. Makes the camera system feel unbalanced with a single 12MP lens and I think I’ll hold on to my 11 Pro for another year hoping that a more meaningful upgrade happens next year.
you may remember the Sony Ericson Walman W810i feature phone, yes that 20ish year old phone came with a similar button! What a beautiful time to be alive, going back to the basics! hahahaha
I’d be curious to see a Becca review of some external lenses for iPhone like the sandmarc. I’m curious to what degree they can help you live without a “real” camera
the faster readout on the new sensor will (probably) not affect the speed that much. Most of the time that the phone spends when taking a 48MP image is mostly processing, merging several exposures together etc. What it might do though is be more forgiving about movement. I know my phone has a "slower" sensor and sometimes I move the phone after it has finished taking its exposure stack, leading to some weird images. Hopefully that can be completely eliminated with a faster readout. (Of course, I imagine that the processor is also improved, so that might speed things up as a whole for hte camera processing, but who knows)
Probably too niche but I would love a macro comparision between Apple, Samsung and Google. I like getting amazing microscopic details in photos of bugs, textures or flowers.
Ooh. Good stuff there. My old 12 needs an update, and the 16 pro with the telephoto may do the trick. And I agree: I don't need a pro max ultra that one needs cargo pockets for. :-)
what's the most used lens on your phone?
ultra wide for me🔥

Regular 1X lens
Tele
I like Tele lens a lot, looking straightforward to a vivo x100 Ultra or even x200
