Personally I've always loved the red strain alien as it's it's captured my imagination. One unique idea I had was that they shot a film featuring the red strain versus the black strain But the entire film was shot like a very intense nature documentary. Perhaps the announcer could be a synthetic, going unnoticed amongst the hordes of warring aliens and giving us a unique close up look and perspective to the species
Dude, if anyone hasn't watched, Alien Theory's Earth War and Beyond the Earth War videos are amazing. Same for the Ryuishi videos. Extremely entertaining.
My theory on this is that when the Matriarch was killed, it triggered something in the surviving xenomorphs which made them much more prone to mutation. This created multiple strains which each created their own hive which were instinctively driven to destroy one another to ensure that only the strongest strain survived.
In nature stressful environments lead to mutations that should usually be out competed to flourish. Mutants sometimes have a random mix of unique genes that help them gain a foothold in there stressful environment. They thrive diversify and compete leading to something new and stronger. Pbs eons did a great episode discussing this in plants that existed around the dinosaur extinction event.
I remember reading those old Alien comics. Still baffled that there was never a movie made by using the comics as a template. The one comic where a corporate leader goes to kidnap the queen for her "queen jelly" to use as a performance enhancing drug, seemed especially interesting. Too bad it was never used for a script similar to the Alien 2 movie. Although based on the action I'm guessing it would have been too elaborate and costly to shoot back then. Perhaps with todays CGI effects the alien battles could be filmed more easily and cheaply.
Hollywood nepotism and the need for every producer to whip their metaphorical dick out and slap it on the table to assert their greatness are the hurdles I suspect prevent adaptation of such lovely stories.
The early AvP games, especially AvP2 from 2001, seemed very much inspired by the comics in terms of plot and visuals. Personally I thought that was a better move compared to the 2010 AvP game having to integrate the terrible films' ideas.
Interesting note, the Kenner Aliens toy line from the early 90s was supposed to be tied to an Aliens animated series called Operation: Aliens, which never made it to TV. It was basically a Saturday morning cartoon version of the Aliens movie, and it would have introduced new Xenomorph types as Ripley and the crew of marines traveled to different planets. With the show prematurely cancelled, Kenner still went forward with the toys and sold them as simple Aliens action figures. This is the reason why the toy designs are so weird and colorful.
i like this idea; a recessive gene that causes the xeno to be less of a hive mind creature and more of an instinctive animal. Could make for some interesting stories
Years ago, after the release of the 2010 Aliens Vs Predator game when the ending revealed the next game was gonna take place on Xeno Prime, I was keeping my fingers crossed we would finally see the Red Xenos in game. What I was hoping to see happen would be the game opening on Xeno Prime to show there is currently a Hive War taking place across the planet. Red Xenos and the original Xenos fighting in massive battles, looking like the opening of Lord of The Rings when the Last Alliance invaded Mordor to stop Sauron. you play as an original Xeno somewhere amongst the chaos, and this would have just been level 1! I wish we could have gotten that sequel game.
i loved that game ESCIALLY the alien segements i loved the gameplay the viscioness but even more then that the geuine insight it gave to how a xenomorph thinks in a deeper way then the movies could show with you sorta seeing the very feelings of speciment 6
At this point, I wonder if such a game would integrate anything from Prometheus/Covenant. I really dislike the direction those movies went in, discarding Giger's biomechanical horror for a bland and pretentious retread of Chariots of the Gods, but I thought the way the Xenos' creators were handled in the comics was excellently creepy. I can imagine 'Xeno Prime' being a testing ground for dozens of bioweapon projects, with the xenos actually being low on the food chain and an unintended side effect of an experiment.
I remember looking through all the Aliens comics in the book store at the mall for hours as a kid. I had and still have the novels including Genocide. I always wanted to see Dr. Church's story in Labyrinth made into a movie. The art in that was so damn good. I can't look at the Marvel Aliens just because for me the Dark Horse comics and art is what I've looked and loved for so long.
What a rush of nostalgia! I remember the red Xenomorph toy was the bull, one of my favs. Along w/ the Green Mantis Xenomorph of course. Always wondered why they haven’t incorporated Those Xenomorph variants instead of the more recent films creatures (I haven’t wasted my time… the OG Xenomorph is my fav and neither the black nor white deacon?… can replace that… I actually just learned there’s more/other films that include the Xenomorphs + their story). haha, awesome vid bro, love your channel!!
Originally the artist did them red so we the reader/viewer of the story could tell the sides apart at least that what I had heard . Kinda glad they mixed it into the lore if that’s what they did in the end .
Genocide was the 2nd comic I read out of the newer marvel omnibus. I haven't read the comics since I was a kid. It's been a thrill going back to them . Love the videos .
Man, I was obsessed with those action figures as a kid, haha. The only one of the original line I never managed to snag was Apone. My favorite part was the pictures on the back. The one of Bishop is a wonderful monument to terrible photo editing pre-PhotoShop.
Your content is great. Extremely informative and enjoyable to listen to. As an avid collector and fan of the franchise. You hit every note and more. Your comic readings are very thoughtful and thorough. A great channel. Thanks for keeping the classic comics alive. 🙏🏻🖖🏻
The Red Xenos definitely should return. The idea of an interspecies war isn’t that ludicrous given how often we see it happen between the likes of ants in real life. And the idea of destroying eggs to maintain the status quo is also pretty relevant. A documentary I saw long ago showed a worker bee laying an egg, but failing to hide it from the guard bees. Heck think about the potential such a reality can play out in a video game.
It's heartbreaking to see the Alien franchise run into the ground like this. We will probably never again see even a halfway decent Alien movie. It's truly depressing.
Oh man those toys! That was a huge part of my childhood, I would save all my allowance and had the whole collections when I was a kid. But then the divorce happened and my "father" conveniently lost my collection out of passive aggression...I lived with my mother. Sorry, just seeing those toys reminded me of it...
This reminds of the Yellow Xenomorphs from the ps2 videogame AvP:Extinction. They are basically genetically engineered Xenomorphs by WY and as the name implies there only difference is being yellow. They were the main antagonists of the Alien campaign of said game and the final mission involved killing a yellow Alien Queen. I wonder if Dark Horse took the idea of the Xenomorph civil war from AvP Extinction or if it was the other way around. Regardless I remember it was a lot of fun watching my normal Alien Queen fighting the Yellow Alien Queen in the final mission. AvP Extinction is very underated, it was a fun game.
@@InfinitySciFi Yep. K-series. I just looked it up to refresh my memory. I miss that game. I wonder how a modern day AvP strategy game would be like with so many new types. It would a perfect opportunity to introduce the likes of the Queen Mother, the Alien King and all those new Xenomorphs that we have seen over the years.
So trippy moment. For back story, the first time I watched alien I was either 7 or 8 years old. It's scared the shit outa me but at the same time I loved it. I'm turning 29 this year and I still have xenomorph based nightmares to this day. But when I was a teenager, I remember having a nightmare with a single blood red xeno about to lung at me. Now mind you I never knew that the red xeno was a thing. I was confused, terrified and intrigued when I saw it being a thing.

I have so much more than what I just listed, but I just wanted to convey how much the Red Xenos mean to me and how they started my true “Geek Bloom”. Being in the military makes it hard but I still collect a ton, and actually have the money for it now 😂 Love these Xenos, I really hope NECA makes figures for the K-series and other Xenos from AVP: Extinction
I loved both the novel and the comic book versions. This should be added to the new canon. It makes the Xenos more menacing and mysterious as there is so much history hidden underneath their genetic make up and adaptive capabilities.
I like the man made yellow xenomorphs from Alien vs Predator extinction. That puss yellow and off white was real nice, too bad you couldn't play as them. I hope this channel does something about them, or maybe about why some aliens seem to have different colours, like I'm sure in Aliens the xenomorphs were a dark blue-black. Either that, or I'm just confusing the lighting in aliens with the warrior xenomorphs from AVP extinction. But the blue-black pretty nice compared the standard jet black of the later depictions.
Thanks for this video man. Back when I was a kid in the 80s my friends and I were all about the Aliens movie. When the 90s rolled around, we got into the action figures that we could find. I wish we could've had the resources that are available now back then! To this day the only 2 action figures I still have from those days are the cracked tusk Predator and a clear plastic predator meant to be in camouflage
I have this original comic as well and it stands out. I like the opposing forces within the same species. It also reminds me of the "mad" or "bad blood" Predator which is fighting amongst his own species too. It's cool to see a bug get splattered by another bug!
I think this could still work in the modern canon. Xenomorphs have been established to either destroy or reproduce with all organic life anyway, I could totally get behind the idea that their method of determining which is friend or foe is so strict that they’ll murder their own kin over a minor genetic difference. The only confusing part is how Xenomorphs born from hosts of different species can work together in a hive but not if they they’re part of the red strain; a loose justification would be that the red strain is a mutation of specifically the Xenomorph DNA of the Xeno-host hybrid, the host’s DNA doesn’t matter in determining who’s on which side but the Xeno DNA holds the marker that keeps them together.
I love the old universe with Alien and Predators, such an expansive and simple universe. Unlike what happened with the latest Alien movies. But one way I can see a civil war amongst xenomorphs is following this story, but perhaps more as a rite of passage for the queen's, to have the honour of becoming the big momma of them all. Either by combat, against one another, having hives duke it out, as showing who has the best hive. Are interesting ways they could go about it
My earth war trilogy wish list 1) Alien Specimen: Hicks finding Newt to Operation Outreach 2) Alien Outbreak: Cult of the Xenomorph Arc 3) Alien The Earth War: R-rated animated miniseries from early containment to evacuation of earth 4) Alien Infestation: Hicks and Newt returning to earth General Spears story arc Gateway Station and Operation Arrowhead (maybe two parts)
Anyone know how these are all the human-strain of alien? How did they reproduce them in that homeworld? Edit: not that it doesn't look cool. It looks cool!
Given my choice I would simply reboot the series as well as the Predator series in the interest of streamlining everything. The same way comics do every so often. I would love to see the reds make a return or something similar, we don't really know a whole lot last I checked (Which was admittedly years ago) about what happens when two hives overlap. Presumably during the Earth Hive and Female Wars there were at minimum four queens per continent not counting Antarctica and Australia. Antarctica probably doesn't have any at all, Australia is largely uninhabited so they might get by with one or two. Other wise Aliens aren't immortal. There is no central location where the queen if alone could have forced Man to the stars instead of defending the Earth.
Certainly some mileage could be had from xenos mutating in some unseen way and being purged by their relatives. And perhaps W-Y capture a mutant for study, only for that one to get loose to establish a hive of mutations -- which has already attracted its cousins. Maybe some dialogue to the effect of a fight between black ants and red ants for territory. Maybe tensions between Earth-born employees and colonists as a parallel. The differences are imperceptible to the viewer, and on the face of it absurd, with the xeno conflict symbolising that...
i'm curious. wouldn't both black and red xenomorph depopulate the native species to the point of extinction in order to keep up with the numbers to constantly fight each other?
The books and comics should be used more as references for the future films. There was loads of stories write in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. The Perry’s deserves to see a least one of they stories turned into a film.
I think it has potential for an exploration in works focused around Wey-yu labs like the Infiltrator novel was. A lad that examines all Xenomorph XX121's various incarnations, and the seemingly random effects of Xenos that are derived from the Pathogen. Personally i think the Xenos derived more closely from the Pathogen are more mutable, and thus are more diverse.
the red xenos were not meant to be taken at face value. they explained that the factions were just color coded for our convenience. besides, being red would make no since, cause xenos need to blend into their hives (and other structures) as well as the dark. something bright red will stick out on a hive wall, as well as in a dark corridor. especially after eye adjusts to darkness, or if there is a light source somewhere.
I wouldn't mind see them again, like maybe some humans are caught between a war of the Red and Black but it starts of slow with people disappearing before all hell breaks out. One of the things I'd like to see again, is the King Alien, but instead of it being made it's natural. But still a rare, abomination among them and is why the Queen instinctively hates it.
If the King Alien returned as a natural form rather than an artificially made one, maybe it could fill the same role as a drone bee since the aliens have a lot of insect like behaviors. His only purpose is to mate with the queen and fertilize her then dies afterwards. Like bees, the only way he's born is from unfertilized eggs laid by a worker in the absence of a queen. Perhaps this happens when their normal method of reproduction can't happen and the colony is under the threat of dying out.
@@goku-san That could work, maybe under extreme situations where their normal ways of creating a Queen or eggs/hive. But keeping with the temperament of the King, he'd likely kill those left off in order to create his own cast. And from what I recall of the King, he doesn't seem to stick around and after creating more would move on.
Man I just gotta say I've read all these comics but your narration of them takes them to a whole new level (I'm talking about his previous videos not this one, I know this is not a narration)
I wonder how the Red strain and Their queen if possible to reproduce to normal levels of the original would react to Pathogens from Fireteam, Would they fight or would the Alien knowing they are different may join together?
Now I'm no biology major but, usually the environment causes mutation in many mammal, aquatic, and insect species. Therefore for the black xenomorph queen to have laid red xenomorph eggs would mean that there was some kind of impurity on the hive world that affects the xenomorph's physiology.
Perhaps the impurity is unique to that planets hosts they burst out of. Two variants of the same species? Must have been billions of hosts for them to have grown such huge armies.
As impressive and menacing, as the Reds look, I personally love the crocodile-xenomorph from Batman vs Aliens. It looks so massive and scarry, a true behemoth, and still with the fluent lethality of the xenos. Too bad they never picked up again on that one.
I really hope they move to animate some of the stories, though that may be as expensive as live action movies, you figure that would be the difference, not so much anymore, DC animation has been knocking out of the park.
Then you get the Xenophobicmorph. "Ay red xeno! We don't take kindly to yer kind round here." "Now Skeeteroid, he ain't hurt nobody." Edit: those Kenner toys were so cool. Some of my favorite toys as a kid were the scorpion xenomorph and the snake xeno. Such cool and unique toys.
At the end of Alien Covenant David hijacked a ship with a whole mess of colonists with Alien facehuggers on his way to a new planet, perhaps this could be the spawning of the red black war?
Could maybe the "Raven" have been a "Red" or something similar. It seemed like an outside to the others on LV-426 in Aliens: CM. Maybe not a straight up "Red" but on outsider to the him none the less.
Is "The red strain" a recent idea? Genuine question because I have vague memories of reading this story but I remember it was in black and white although don't quote me on that. The initial difference I first noticed was that one colony had the smooth almost clear head from Alien and the opposing had the patterned head type from aliens? I'm just wondering if the novel picked up on the idea after the story had been presented in colour?
What the comic books touched on that the movies have not is what is the next step of Xenomorph evolution? I mean there is only so many ways you can write stories where the Xenomorph is a monster that crawls around your ship consuming crew members. Its a waste not to have a story where the Xenomorphs are trying to take over the universe and possibly winning. Lets not forget that baddies like the Zerg from Starcraft and Tyrannids from WH40k all ripped off Xenomorphs and what they thought Xenomorphs would evolve into.

Dude. GTFOH. David Attenborough should narrate the nature documentary. None other is fit for the job...except maybe Ash from the og Alien film.

But one way I can see a civil war amongst xenomorphs is following this story, but perhaps more as a rite of passage for the queen's, to have the honour of becoming the big momma of them all.
Either by combat, against one another, having hives duke it out, as showing who has the best hive. Are interesting ways they could go about it
I'm digging the content man!
Without any hosts on these planets how are the xenomorphs transforming??
i really hope that we get to see the red strain xenomorph's again. i hope NECA does the red strain versions of their kenner inspired alien figures.
Ps. Genocide is my absolute favourite. Would you ever foresee a future movie? and how would you pitch it?
🙏🏻
I always thought one being red was just for the readers sake of telling them apart 🙊
Red Xeno: You ever wonder why we're here?
My earth war trilogy wish list
1) Alien Specimen: Hicks finding Newt to Operation Outreach
2) Alien Outbreak: Cult of the Xenomorph Arc
3) Alien The Earth War: R-rated animated miniseries from early containment to evacuation of earth
4) Alien Infestation: Hicks and Newt returning to earth General Spears story arc Gateway Station and Operation Arrowhead (maybe two parts)
Anyone know how these are all the human-strain of alien? How did they reproduce them in that homeworld?
Edit: not that it doesn't look cool. It looks cool!
Looks like the previous occupants of the planet were totally wiped out making these huge armies
"Genocide" and "The Destroying Angels" are two of my favorite Aliens comic collections. Many others are just too muddled or silly for my tastes.
I remember the red Xenomorph when I was younger!!! I would love if they brought them back
Aliens vs Predator: Extinction definitely must've gotten some influence from genocide with the yellow K-strain xenomorphs in the Aliens campaign.
Merry Christmas 2021. Peace✌🏻
I really enjoyed your reading of the comic 😀
Nobody:
Red Strain: *"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"*
@ 1:35 I always why there is a rifle down there in the midst of the Hiveworld? was this from a previous Aliens series?
Why hasn't this been made into a movie or at least an animation. This is interesting.
They were also featured in the PC and PS1 game Alien Trilogy
You make the best videos.
Man I just gotta say I've read all these comics but your narration of them takes them to a whole new level (I'm talking about his previous videos not this one, I know this is not a narration)
Sucker for the color red.
Hey can't wait to see you cover the K-series Xenomorphs (the yellow ones)
There was a similar thing in Alien versus Predator Extinction the K series Xenomorph being a stand-in for the red Alien
I loved the look of these.
I wonder how the Red strain and Their queen if possible to reproduce to normal levels of the original would react to Pathogens from Fireteam, Would they fight or would the Alien knowing they are different may join together?
Love this channel
I think the Red Xenomorphs reappeared as enemies in Aliens : Extermination. But this time around, they're now weapons created by Weyland Yutani.
There's also a pink xenomorph that only feasts on its own.
Red ants vs Black ants.
There is actually a red strain variant that you have to fight against in alien versus predator extinction is an old PS2 game.
I would love to hear and see more of the red strain
Hive world was a superb video 👌
Now I'm no biology major but, usually the environment causes mutation in many mammal, aquatic, and insect species. Therefore for the black xenomorph queen to have laid red xenomorph eggs would mean that there was some kind of impurity on the hive world that affects the xenomorph's physiology.
Perhaps the impurity is unique to that planets hosts they burst out of. Two variants of the same species? Must have been billions of hosts for them to have grown such huge armies.
It's a festive xenomorph for Christmas
As impressive and menacing, as the Reds look, I personally love the crocodile-xenomorph from Batman vs Aliens. It looks so massive and scarry, a true behemoth, and still with the fluent lethality of the xenos. Too bad they never picked up again on that one.
For an April fools joke, you should do another comics story but change the story past a certain point. Ppl would be baffled.
I really hope they move to animate some of the stories, though that may be as expensive as live action movies, you figure that would be the difference, not so much anymore, DC animation has been knocking out of the park.
Then you get the Xenophobicmorph. "Ay red xeno! We don't take kindly to yer kind round here."
"Now Skeeteroid, he ain't hurt nobody."
Edit: those Kenner toys were so cool. Some of my favorite toys as a kid were the scorpion xenomorph and the snake xeno. Such cool and unique toys.
Absolutely imo. Also, since the new pred show comin out is called prey, do you think its gonna follow the avp prey story by chance?
Love the red strain, a movie spinoff please.
Got off work early, got a lap dance, and now an upload?
It REALLY is a Good Friday
Where can I find these abroad?
I love the red strain Xenos and the Genocide story
Is "The red strain" a recent idea? Genuine question because I have vague memories of reading this story but I remember it was in black and white although don't quote me on that. The initial difference I first noticed was that one colony had the smooth almost clear head from Alien and the opposing had the patterned head type from aliens? I'm just wondering if the novel picked up on the idea after the story had been presented in colour?
I remember the comic from the time, it was in coiour. Perhaps you had a different print?
@@ptonpc Yeah that might well have been the case. It was a long time ago when I read it.
This should of been on the big screen.
Your voice is reminiscent of Matthew Modine in Full Metal Jacket
It could be debated that the "Mother Xenomorph" from Aliens: Dust to Dust could be a Red Strain.
Thanks for everything you do on the Alien univers
What the comic books touched on that the movies have not is what is the next step of Xenomorph evolution? I mean there is only so many ways you can write stories where the Xenomorph is a monster that crawls around your ship consuming crew members. Its a waste not to have a story where the Xenomorphs are trying to take over the universe and possibly winning. Lets not forget that baddies like the Zerg from Starcraft and Tyrannids from WH40k all ripped off Xenomorphs and what they thought Xenomorphs would evolve into.
