I think it's worth noting that in the Letters to the Editor section of one issue they mention that the "red" aliens weren't actually red, they just coloured them that way to make it clearer to the reader which was which.

Because human military in Aliens universe is a complete joke and a pushover. Earth is essentially a corporate world which focuses solely on making profit. You can see in this story that priority is given not in eradication of alien hives, but in recovery of assets. Corporations did not produced since anything which would benefit the common soldier and were focusing their efforts solely on high end products for the rich. You can see that even when entire Earth is falling, corporations are still running, they still have massive luxury ships. If Earth would had any other values outside the profit, alien infestation would been killed in its infancy.

That would be a dream. Her work is wonderful. Her Isolation narration in particular was a masterful rendition of the novel.
